I ran 7 gen 1 last season. All worked flawlessly. Bought 4 X this year. So far, great cameras. I receive my pics 20-25 seconds after activation.

Nice review and honest video. I've used TACTACAM's 4.0 and 5.0 cameras but have not used their trail cameras. This Reveal is the original one right, not the new Reveal 2.0? I heard that there were some substantial new features and improvements in this updated product.

Correct. This is the original X (not just the original Reveal). We also have an XB out in the field that we will be posting a review soon!

I just bought this camera, I have other cell cameras but so far nothing compares to the Reveal X. I don't know if you mentioned this but in Texas we have a big problem with blowing cedars, so far the Reveal X has been amazing not taking pics of blowing trees/grass. I haven't tested the Reveal X in the field (just backyard testing) so interested to see if bird pics are as bad as our other cell cameras (tons of bird pics).

After downloading the App, can it be set to "alert" you of movement. I mean, like our Cobra Security system, when motion is detected, it sends an "alert" to our phone with a certain sound. Thanks for any answer you may give.

Thanks for watching! If you set it to send pictures immediately, you would get an alert and the picture. The only issue with that is that if you have it in a high activity area, you’ll get pretty irritated with all the alerts. And it will use your battery up as well. I hope that helps.

Can you either turn the camera itself on and off via the app, or change the frequency of when it sends photos via the app? For example, I want it to only send me photos at night, but send them immediately.

So, unfortunately I think the answer to both of your questions is no. The only way to "turn it off" from the app would be to suspend service. And as far as changing the send settings, it takes a while to kick in. I think it won't kick in until like the NEXT time it would send pictures or up to 24 hours. You might give it a try, though, and see. It never hurts to experiment :D Let me know what you find out if you do!

Just bought one yesterday and put it out the same day. So far I love it. I’m new to the trail camera world. I noticed mine had a slight rattle when it’s moved. Is that normal with this camera

I just purchased this camera. Can't wait till I get home to set it up. I do have a question. Can you hook up a solar panel to this camera. I am only using it for security purposes.

If you’re using a Tactacam that is deactivated (to save money for a month or two), can you still adjust the camera settings remotely through the app?

Unfortunately, no. If the camera isn't activated, the app won't communicate to it.

Do you know…Does the check in photo show a real photo or just a blank? I bought this today on your recommendation. Can you help me with some thoughts on how you would setup if I’m just checking in on my house construction, progress. I don’t want it taking photo after photo while they are working as I would imagine it would kill the batteries pretty quick. What would be perfect is if we could just get one shot a day of the house , that is all we really need. I know the motion will activate it when they are there but how can I control the number of shots and also get a shot each day if nobody is there….would the check in photo work as a one a day photo with no trigger being necessary? Any help is appreciated.

Hey there! First, the check in is a real picture. The other thing you could do is set the delay in the settings so that there are several hours between times it will take a picture when it sees motion. I haven’t tried to see how much time it will allow, but it looks like several hours. So you could have it trigger when they arrive and the camera senses motion, then delay for several hours so it won’t take another picture again unless there’s more motion after that time. Then you can set it up to send the picture to you instantly or choose the one or two times/day you want to receive the pictures. Do keep in mind, though, that you are paying for a certain number of pics each month, so if you only take 30 pictures, it’s not cheaper than 250. Thanks for watching. I hope that helps!

Bought this one about a month ago, you did a great review, but I’ve experienced one issue. You buy a subscription for the month, I bought the $8 subscription with 500 photos, I began noticing the camera was taking a lot of pictures of nothing so I timed them out to every 55 min. I set the sensitivity to four and now I get a picture every 1 hr and 50 min. They definitely want you to buy more photos.

Could you all personally tell a difference in image quality between Gen1 and Gen2? I heard you say its not of great concern, but I am curious if you could tell a noticeable difference?

We couldn’t tell a big difference just off hand, but let me go through and look at the app and see. We still have a Gen 1 out there. I’ll get back with you.

So I went back through and looked. I can’t tell a major difference on my phone app. Side by side, they seem about the same to me. In the settings, the Gen 1 does have the option of 24MP pics, where the RevealX is 16MP Max. If there’s a noticeable difference there, you wouldn’t see it until you pulled the cards probably

Click the picture of the camera. Then choose the camera you want to change. Then click the wrench. Scroll down pretty close to the bottom where it says “Send Type.”

Not really. You can use your phone's GPS to drop a pin where the camera is, so you can find it with your phone. However, you can't use an internal GPS to find the camera, say if it is stolen.

anybody try using a SD card larger than 32GB ? 32GB is sorta small.

I’m pretty sure we just use the 32. The nice thing is that you can set it to override old pics. So it will delete the oldest pics and replace with newer ones.

the live view is bluetooth not wifi.
