Well have to give credit to Pep. Normally he is possesed with Possesion and rather throw a game away than have less Possesion than the Enemy. His teams are usually bad without the ball but he proved the opposite in this match. City was fairly comfortable without the Ball and was way more dangerous with 40% Possesion. I think he would have lost this match if he forced his team to dominate possesion no matter what it takes! Tactically Pep is still the one

Bullshit. Pep always wants to have more ball possession than the rival, but you know Arsenal also played, and they are good to keep the ball. Actually two goals from city were scored after pressure actions, so they were trying to get the ball
@johnlau6749
@johnlau6749 Жыл бұрын
@@andresausecha9553 That wasn't the purpose actually. The whole gameplan basically force Arsenal into errors. Because Pep knew Arsenal will keep the ball for pretty much long time. City's pressure is absolute spot on in that match and deserved the win. This is pivotal moments in the league now. Now only 2 weeks into pivotal moments, Arsenal already 2L 1D while Man City got 2W 1L. Arsenal still have to go to Etihad and next match vs Villa and Leicester after that, both away games regardless got 1 game in hand or not. Arsenal cannot lose both games or else the title race will end as early as March. Arteta's naive will be Arsenal's downfall this season.

If I'm being honest pep did make a mistake in the first half squad choice. He underestimated arsenals pressing and quality on the wing since bernado isn't a LB. Once he switched to a traditional back 4 the game opened up and forced them into more mistakes. We got lucky arsenal didn't score more in the first half. Hopefully pep learns from this and stops this back 3. But besides that was a pep masterclass even if the refs were against us

@nickgovier
@nickgovier Жыл бұрын
By far the biggest tactical point of the game was how Pep realised that Arsenal's ability to play out through the press was severely diminished with Jorginho in the team instead of Partey. He realised in the second half that he could hem the Arsenal defence in and there was nobody able to receive the ball from the defence under that amount of pressure and link to the forwards. So Arsenal's defence would be stuck passing it sideways until someone inevitably made a mistake. It's a high risk strategy to press like that with Partey there to break it, but much more likely to succeed without him. That switch in the second half changed the entire complexion of the match, and goes a long way towards explaining how City were so successful with such uncharacteristically low possession.

Whilst I appreciate that you have tried to do positional analysis, this is not what City do. We went to traditional 4-4-2 in the second half. In the first half we went to overwhelm midfield with 5 players. Arsenal then decided in 20 mins in to overwhelm in midfield and City players went wide. It was an awesome transition....

Football matches are won and lost by errors and moments of brilliance... That could be from managers, players of refs. English "experts" said his style of football would never work in England, but Pep has dominated the league in such a way that his main rival for the title is now his student. And whether they win the title or not this season, this Arsenal team is here to stay and challenge for major honors playing the Pep way.

Tactically Arsenal were better. Arsenal needed Jesus to have more clinical strikers up front which was a major contribution to them losing. Without that, the risks to create from the back piled up and ManC have sufficient quality to score from errors. Arsenal could not adapt game plan without having more threat up front to convert their dominance in tactics - leaving them open to Pep's changes in the 2nd half. A lot of commentators don't seem to understand the dynamic that allowed Pep to make changes was the fact Arsenal did not have enough threat up front - and probably missing Party in the midfield cost them too. Imagine Osihmen playing up front for Arsenal or Bellingham in midfield. Arsenal would have won with a few more high quality personnel. In the end that's what ManC had that won them the game Haarland and De Bruyne.

Wonderful video, as always. We seem to struggle in the last third, in entering the box, since facing Newcastle, and teams are starting to sit low against us, frustrating our midfield efforts, making play chiefly stall out in the triangle of White-Saka-Odegaard, who either resort to too many low-xG long shots when finishing attacks, or play the ball out to an equally frustrated Zinchenko, who tries to find solutions but who also gets frustrated, and Martinelli who gets isolated and shut down without regular rotations on the left, with Nketiah often coming across as too aloof, similar to Lokonga, lacking the sort of intensity and predatory instincts that are vital at a senior level. There is a marked difference as compared to Gabriel Jesus. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m of the impression that Nketiah is likely a role model player, exceptional to train and handle, with an exceptional work ethic and attitude in training-everything I’ve ever seen of him points to as much. He must be easy to love, as a manager. But I can’t help but feel... that this factor - that he is easy to love - could very well be the problem. Because it could invite an error on the part of Arteta: a rose-tinted evaluation of Nketiah’s performances, stifling a critical, clear-sighted evaluation. Even as Nketiah scored wonderfully against United, I found myself thinking that his lack of involvement in open play hurts our general play, which in turn leads to that chance-creation gets impacted across the board. Even though Nketiah has a high average xG created in the games he play, I think a holistical view would in part attribute that relatively high number to the surrounding, well-developed build-up, movement, and cannot reasonably be pinned on him alone. I expected Arteta to rapidly deploy Trossard alongside Martinelli and Saka, perhaps playing the versatile Trossard in a False 9 role, to mitigate these issues, starting as soon as possible, after the game against United. For some reason, this has not happened. Instead, we have seen Martinelli switched out for Trossard during games, which hasn’t really altered the core deficits, namely the central vacancy, lack of central movement, ability to recieve the ball inside the box and play link-up, etc. In some respect, Nketiah reminds me of Haaland in that he doesn’t really ’gel’ with the general way that the team plays. But all of this begs the question-doesn’t Arteta spot this, think about this? Has he considered playing Martinelli-Trossard-Saka, but seen something in training that invalidates that option? Or hasn’t he considered it? Or has he been swayed to select Nketiah because of his goal flurry, because of demonstrations of motivation, confidence? Or-Am I simply COMPLETELY wrong in my assessment? (To be rational, I have to consider it possible, perhaps even the most plausible option, seeing as I’m not a football manager, but then my instincts and eyes seem to be fooling me. But then again, I’m not the manager: it SHOULD be the case that I’m wrong, surely?) Nevertheless, I’d like to see Trossard or Martinelli (they’d likely interchange either way) in a False 9 role, with Nketiah benched for now. I’d atleast like to see whether we’d get more dynamic play and ’unlocking’ interchanges in the final third with Nketiah dropped. As things stand, it feel like any team sitting deep will simply neutralize us, like we’ve been neutralized in the past few games. Now, playing a non-striker as a false 9, while pushing for the title, is nothing new either. City did it last season with Silva, and Arsenal are similar to City in how they play. I can’t say that the team really has become all that much worse since the start of the season, when we practically had the same team. It feels like we play almost identically, save for in the final third, where our main striker has been forced out due to injury. Shouldn’t that in some sense hint towards where the most pressing problem might lie? A lot of frustration coming through here. I love Eddie, I love Arteta too, but I’m just baffled by what’s going on at the moment. I can’t understand why we continue to select this current line-up. Am I crazy, or is anyone else seeing similar things? Getting similar ideas?😅

Tomiyasu, Martinelli, yes they didn’t shine. But the chance for errors to happen, the chance for errors to lead to dropped points (and not just a worse scoreline), City feeling comfortable pressing so high and so compact - are symptoms of systematic issues at a higher hierarchical level. It is in some sense redundant to say that a player played poorly, because of a local, instantiated mistake or weakness, because that isn’t the issue. Rather, one must look at how a local error, mistake, situation, is connected to a holistic view of the game in general. Instead of asking why a block isn’t made, ask instead why the situation in which a player must make a block, risky misplaced pass, etc, occured in the first place. City’s first goal is perhaps indeed just a matter of Tomi commiting a blunder, but at the same time, we should be able to sometimes commit blunders, even against good teams, and win. Because random blunders happening in some sense also comes down to sheer probability, it is something you have to account for by default, and not get too fixated on. That’s the way I view it.

Martinelli is an alternate Gabriel Jesus. Thus, his interweaving with him makes sense. Martinelli out wide without Jesus and with a pure striker makes no sense. I know this sounds facetious but Martinelli and Jesus have the same dynamic as Rashford and Martial. They swap and use their similar attributes to harass opposing defences and drive them crazy. The difference is Rashford is lethal out wide anyway by nature while Martinelli is more suited for being dangerous when closer to goal. Out wide kills Martinelli's threat. I bet you if Martinelli played upfront, Arsenal get a draw, despite their errors. Nketiah is not as lethal and dangerous as Martinelli upfront. That's not apparent immediately but that's actually the truth. I saw that dynamic like you did after seeing Nketiah miss those crucial chances and was shocked Arteta didn't even try it to see what happens. Martinelli is the perfect replacement for Jesus. Nketiah is great for some games but should not be the main option when Gabriel Jesus is absent. He is too limited and has a ceiling that Arsenal cannot afford to suffer or tolerate. Unfortunately, Martinelli seems to be getting the flak Nketiah SHOULD be getting. Smh.

La la la la la la. Y'all arsenal fans woke up this morning thinking u'll beat city after losing 10 consecutive PL games in the tie, In your face Apart from the fact that y'all fucked up, you got an unfair penalty which was your only goal, you lost at home, got saved by the woodwork and a goal line clearance, and offside which could have given city a penalty goal💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 If your players were shy, your team wouldnt have been the only team to get over 60% of possession against man city (without a city red card) since 2017/18 season💀💀💀💀💀Killshot💀💀💀

strangely I think that Arsenal looked better this game and could have won if not for some defensive mistakes from Tomiyasu and Gabriel which is a shame because Tomiyasu is a player I rate and the attacking mistakes from Nketiah who could've scored 2 but was unlucky being possibly 2-1 up could've have changed the momentum of the game and gave Arsenal the win

Bro. why give City a 5.5, they intended to play defensive especially for the first 40 minutes, thats tactics then we explored their weakness and score, just because Pep didn't play with his usual formation doesn't mean he deserved your score, Arsenal got a 7💀, A team that only created like 2 goal threatning chance and half of their xg came from a penalty they didn't deserve (of course at emirates)💀💀💀. If United played the same against arsenal, they'll earn like an 8, and Arsenal will get at least a 6. Though City weren't at their best, they still demolished Arsenal💀💀💀 Finally, we'll get our 12th consecutive defeat against Arsenal at the Emtyhad💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

And to add to the fact that Ederson only faced one shot ok target a penalty kick… and you claim tactically Arsenal had it … no ways even without the scoreline arsenal should have kept city busy and ederson under pressure none of that happened … they played well yes in that they kept city on their toes and did not give an easy ride however they did not dominate any key area…of the game

Bro's having that much confidence to give city a 7% chance of winning after winning 13 of our last 14 games against Arsenal, lol💀💀💀💀 Though city played Mid today we still hammered them at Emirates to go top of the table💀. No excuse, you guys were at home, you should make less mistakes in big games, and be more clinical. I agree you had most of the ball but you were not clinical at all in front of goal. You got an undeserved penalty which was you're only goal, city had more xg, scored 3, got denied by the woodwork, saved by Jorginho, and Arsenal have lost their last 11 pl games against City💀.
