Firing Berhalter is the bare minimum for the Federation. Let's see who they hire. If the rumors are true, Cherundolo is the frontrunner. I don't see that as an improvement. More of a linear hiring.

@@zakmessieha9486- It wouldn’t be AS catastrophic. Cherundolo appears to be a good coach (something Gregg has never shown to be) and is doing quite well this year without some of the big names that he has had in the past. That said, it would be nice to look abroad for a new manager. Someone with no connection to US Soccer/ the MLS/ no connection with our talent pool. Then have that person evaluate the extended player pool and put together a team. No legacy players, just the one that the new manager thinks will be needed in a newly formed team.

It sounds to me like you don't know anything about Cherundolo's football life. He played for 16 years in Germany, 12 of which in the Bundesliga, and did all of his coaching training in Germany, only coming back to the US a couple of years ago for what sounds like a temporary stay based on the way he's talked about the move. All in all he spent 20 years of his life deep within the German professional football setup, and as a head coach he's done well so far. I think he would be worlds better than Berhalter. Not that I'm saying I think he should be the #1 choice, but as a realistic option you can do a lot worse.

My lasting memory of GGG will be him idiotically distracting the US players with the Bolivia v Panama scoreline seconds before they gave up the Uruguay goal. Every half decent coach knows to keep their players focused on the task at hand. Dude was such a clown.

Realistically: DAVID MOYES, Mauricio Pochettino, Herve Renard, David Wagner, ..... or any number of HIGHLY EXPERIENCED English speaking coaches from the EPL who are older, slowing down, and have EXPERIENCE.

Prefer a European or South American with a pedigree, trophies. Our players play in Europe, so tactically it matters to relate to players,how they play @ club & country. So actually utilize a striker & ability to change formations

As someone in a position to hire and terminate, this is never an easy thing to do, so whether you think it was the right choice, remember he has a family, which also affects them. With that said... USMNT will have to get this right. Otherwise, it's not the manager that needs to be fired. Its management starts with the sporting director!

the one thing hiring southgate/berhalter provide, they act as protection for the players. the media and fans would universally blamed them. now the players would get exposed for who they are. average players who were relegated with leeds. musah bench warmer for loftus cheek, reyna bench warmer for elanga, ricardo poopoo cleans the boots for luuk de jong. some players relegated from serie A. these scrubs would get exposed.

Also a coach that won't bring in players that are injured, or players that aren't playing at club level. Maybe the exception to that is Gio Reyna. Lol. Like Turner should have done better on a couple of shots. Horrendous with his feet. He could be a 3rd instead of Sean Johnson. Horvath @ best is a 3rd. Even Steffen would have been better. Have to clean up the GK situation for sure & Balo is the #1 striker no doubt. Sargent probably #2, creativity should be stressed with a tactical change

Let’s not celebrate too soon. The real problem is USSF. Until and unless we hire someone better this is all academic. It still seems like there are coaches who want some prominent coaches want nothing to do with the USMNT. If we get another MLS level coach perhaps even without Gregg’s flair for recruiting dual nationals, we haven’t won anything yet. This is definitely a first step, but there are plenty of berhalter clones who would take a couple million to do USSF’s bidding.

Berhalter should’ve been sacked, no doubt, but these guys acting like he should give up or give back millions of dollars comes off very juvenile or ignorant.
