n this lesson we help IZZY with her positioning at the net.
She used to struggle with either being too close to the net or too far away. So we helped her understand how her positioning changes depending on her partners shot or her opponents position.
We go through 3 different exercises that you can try in your training!!!

I think you guys have got a good thing going here. Posting coaching sessions. It's so much more relatable, the way they move, hit, swing, timing etc. Instead of a high level player making mistakes on purpose. Keep it up guys!

Thanks very much for taking the time to write such a positive comment, we thought long and hard about how we can be different, we are also very lucky to have a client base that are willing to be a part of these videos.

Good, professive coaching session with small inclusions each time to allow the player to incorporate changes to her current game. Izzy seemed physically capable but there was some hesitance (confidence) that blunted her speed of movement and, I felt, she carried her racquet too low for the situation she was in. When an opponent is hitting from below or level with the net the shuttle will/must almost always travel upward to clear the net. As a front court player I feel Izzy can exploit this by holding the raquet at a higher ready position saving the need to waste time raising it up prior to playing the shot. Additionally, this more directly threatening posture by the net player discourages opponents from trying to cease control of the net for fear of being punished. In a sport as fast as badminton even the most tiny savings can convert into large gains.

Racket carriage is always an easy area to overlook and something we remind our clients of a lot. Players sometimes rush with their feet and leave the racket until the end resulting in a later contact point. You’re right to point out that racket carriage needs to be relevant for the potential shots that can come back. Thanks for watching and the positive feedback. 👍

Wow..very useful session. Is it always recommended to keep lady in front??
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ Ай бұрын
It’s considered the stronger formation but it’s not to say the lady can’t play at the back of the court. This also allows the man to press forwards more in the mid court if the lady can cover the shot over the top to the back. We can maybe do a video on this in the future. Pleased you found the video useful 😀

When rear court player lifts and opponent is not in a good position to smash then what it is the ideal formation - the players should seperate to each box or we should maintain front-back formation?
@swityfrr
@swityfrr 3 ай бұрын
Depends on the situation but I'd advise that you separate to each box but both go a step further to the net, a drop shot is much more probable than a smash so being a step ahead is good

Yep.. doubles is very dynamic. So a lot depends on opponents and your skills. I personally stay in front towards the shuttle.

We would agree with the other comments but if the opponents don’t look like they are on balance and in a good position then you don’t want to feel like you are defending, step up the court and look to counter any flat smashers or more likely drop shots that come back. Thanks for watching 👍

It could be that it looks too obvious you are playing a drop. The other option is as you have mentioned it’s too slow/floaty, try and change the angle of the racket more on contact to see if you can get the drop coming over at a steeper angle. Hope that helps and thanks for watching 👍

She can hold her racquet more short. Would give her more speed power and control.

It may help a little but the main issue came with the length of the swing and overuse of the arm. Once Issy becomes consistent with a shorter action with more use of the forearm and wrist then she could marginally adjust holding the grip slightly higher if necessary.
