Tactics Tuesday: Matchplay two club players

Squash Originals wants to help you play better squash! In this video Seb is on court with two club players of similar level. While they play rallies Seb will step in to give them tips when he thinks it's valuable. Looking at perception, footwork and shot selection. Hopefully you can relate to these rallies and learn from this as well!

Wow, really great input🎉 Do you offer a Training Camp for your followers? Out of my point of view a Video about stopping to brake the wrist on the backhand side could be really helpfull for a lot of Club players (included me). The swing on the Backhand side of both Players reminded my on my own and that i still need to work on it😊

this coaching are really great ! i recognize the situation, and the level of the player is not insane (like insane speed or impossible shot etc..) so i can relate to their small missteps. Also, you are a really good coach giving positiv feedback when a good shot is being played, a good decision is being taken etc...

Hi, thanks for your message! First I would say, stop giving them an opportunity to drop… but obviously that is not always easy.. keeping it straight and tight as possible using the depth of the court is what I use mostly. The more you boast or hit cross and short will give opportunities for them. Using not to much pace on the ball could help too. Hope this helps!

1:03 why was a drop the wrong shot to play? The opponent is pretty far back and little to te right so a decent drop or a short kill would be an easy point, no?

@theqbary Good question! Was the left corner open, yes. Was the opponent completely out of position, I would say no, it was the return of serve and there was somewhat momentum back to the T. Also it was the second shot in the rally would make me say build up the point first. Also the ball is being played from the back of the service box which is not easy (depending on the level), but you are quite far away from the front wall, straight kill is more my go-to shot if I would go short now. Then you could consider, you hit the drop and you have a few options. 1. It is great and an instant winner. 2. It is terrible and you hit it down. 3. It is good but not great and my opponent has a free opportunity to put me under pressure now. Option 1. is obviously very positive, and if you have the skill and you play this shot often, go for it. But it needs to be great. Option 2. You lose the point instantly. Option 3. You need to do damage control after. So I would suggest hitting a straight drive, giving yourself time on the T, you might even hit a winner hitting this drive, because of the position of the opponent. And it is most likely safe to play. Hope this helps!

@@suhailtandel4937 depends really some players like a new ball every time they play, some use the ball until it breaks, but I hardly encounter players changing the ball during their session
