I was blessed to be able to watch Bobby's entire career as a young teenager in central Mass.....he is the greatest player that will ever play hockey and a greater human being. People talk about records that will never be broken in sports but for some reason Bobby is never mentioned in those conversations. But, what he did when he won all four major awards in hockey as a defenseman will never happen again. Winning the scoring title in the NHL and winning the best defenseman award the same year, which he did twice, will also never happen again. That feat just doesn't even make any logical sense yet that's what he did. I think Bobby Clark put it best when he said after seeing Bobby play, "he needs to be in one league higher than this one...". He also said Bobby Orr is what what all hockey players everywhere should strive to be like both on and off the ice. He wasn't flashy...he didn't need to be....he was just so much better than everyone else and still would be today.

Its an interesting question, the closest dmen today whose DNA/lineage can be traced back to BOrr would have to be Makar and EK, whose dynamic skating abilities, creativity on offense with the puck, and overall ice hockey awareness/high IQ could be compared to the great Orr. I think if he had modern equipment, training, etc, he would still be a dominant player today.

Lidstrom was definitely an all-time great, but doesn't hold a candle to Orr. A lot of people would argue Orr was the best player ever, even over Gretzky. Orr is in a league of his own among defensemen all time.

I dont get the NHL Sim. If i controll the Caps or the Pilerd and just do best Lines, Ovi/McDavid get like 90 points. I do a new Sim with another Team and Ovi gets like 60+ goals every year and McDsvid gets 100+ points. I think if u controll a team, the teams gets more spread out points..

I’m sorry but 97 overall for Orr is 1000% justified, Your talking About the GREATEST OFD we have ever seen, he paved the way for all the amazing OFDs we see in the NHL today, If he was a forward I could understand his rating being lower but he’s literally the BEST defender ever in my opinion and just like Makar is Rated 86 in HUT and Mcdavid is Rated 86 and in the base game Makar and mcdavid are not the same rating but they should be just because they are the best players in the league ones the best forward and ones the best defence-men….

I saw Orr play, even as a junior for Oshawa Generals... Kid you have NO FRIGGEN CLUE... NONE WHATSOEVER... Nick Lidstrom couldn't carry Bobby Orr's jock on his BEST DAY... Orr led the NHL twice in scoring...No other Dman has done it even once... Orr has the greatest +/- in NHL history... Worth more than a goal/per game better than the opposition through his, albeit shortened by injury, career... Orr was not just the greatest Dman ever... He retired when he was 30? And people say that he's better than Lidstrom? Hahahaha. You know why Gretzky is better than Lemieux? Cause he played twice as long. Nobody argues that. People are weird. If Lemieux or Orr played anywhere near as many games as Gretzky or Lidstrom they'd be the best. But they didn't. So they're not.
