Tado just released their new Smart AC Control V3+. The improvements in V3+ over V2+ are substantial. The setup procedure of the smart AC Control V3+ received a complete overhaul and is now not only super fast but easy too. But Tado did not stop there. The new controller is now finally Apple Homekit compatible.

Sidenote regarding the Smart AC Control naming convention. There's no version without a plus in its name. Only the legacy Tado heating products were available without a plus in their name.

Hi, great review. You've mentioned on the other review that v3+ needs a subscription for you to use Geolocation is that still the case? Also, does it have command to control the swing horizontally and vertically? Thanks

Hey Jexie, thank you! As far as i remember tado moved away from the subscription model after a significant backlash. If you operate it in manual mode you can control swing movement yes.

Thanks Anton! It can only control one AC Unit at a time. However di you have two identical models in one room it would work with both

you missed out to mention that if in basic control mode you cannot set a comfy range of temperature that the ac will activate when it is outside those ranges, to do that you have to switch to thermostat mode, which disables the other control functions.

Dear Martin Koutny, if you add the new Smart AC Control to your existing account, the App won't change (the same happens when you add a new Smart Thermostat). Do you know if you can schedule to heat your home rather than just cooling? My unit can do both. I can see there is a heat button, but does it understand automatically when to heat?

Yes you can switch into heating mode and also active it in full manual mode. Don’t know if it’ll switch automatically to heating if you turn it high enough.

is one smart AC controller V3 only for one air conditioner in the house, or can multiple air conditioners be connected to one smart controller? or is it not possible that I need a smart steering for every climate?

If the ACs receiver is in the same room, then you can use one Controller. If they are located in different rooms, you'll need multiple controllers

Can you switch on/off the AC just from the thermostat? I want to use it in my bed and breakfast. But I'm not gonna ask.every quest to instal the app.... And it will be great if it doesn't have too many functions (the thermostat), just ON/OFF and the range of temperature to set. And is it also possible to set a new temperature range? Like for example 18 - 24 degree ?

You can adjust the settings on the screen, but it's highly unreliable if you don't know how to push it correctly. You can't set a range, but it uses a range in order to control the temperature. It'll turn off roughly 0,3 degrees under your target and will turn back on once its around 0,5 above again.

No you only can power it through a USB Cable. I upgraded one of my power outlets with a USB Port so i plug it right into the wall

@@AttiBear thnx! Shame! I am doing a renovation and was willing to build them flush to the wall so it looks like they always belonged there :) Another question, is there a guideline to where you put the little box compared to the airco unit so the IR signal is received?

They sit fairly close on the wall so I think from an optical standpoint it's alright. Once you complete the Setup, there is a part where the AC Control sends out continuous signals so you can check whether your AC receives the signal. Mine for example sits in a 90° angle to my AC 😉

My AC remote can only adjust temperature up and down. I cannot type in specific temperatur. It does show temperature, fan etc. on the display. Is that a problem for using the Tado Smart AC Control?

Not sure if it'll work the Smart AC Control. Tado also has a compatibility guide on their website. You can also reach out to their support and they'll tell you if it's compatible.

The equipment is always emitting light? or its able to turn it off? I am asking, because in a bedroom I like to sleep completly in the dark

It only lights up if there any changes to your settings. Otherwise the display is off

Atti Bear sorry for the many questions, but doesn’t it require a hub or something to be connected to use outside the house? Or does it connect to Apple TV and the homepods?

No Problem I'm happy to help 😉. Homekit in general can be operated without a hub. Remote access requires either an iPad, Apple TV or Home Pod.

Hey Mohamed, well if they all can receive the IR signal from it then yes. otherwise you'll have to use multiple modules.

what if someone takes the AC remote and turns on the AC? Will the phone app know that the AC has been turned on?

No it will not. Tado will overwrite your remotes command at its next command cycle

I'm pretty unhappy with it's lack of mounting options. Adhesive does not work on my wall, and there seems to be no other options than buying the stand. I'm baffled by the lack of a bracket or anything that allows me to properly attach it.

cause plain Wifi consumes way to much energy. You'd be switching batteries every few days

That you can control all the settings is not true. Heat pump cannot be set below 16C, so setting 8 or 10C as many people like for holiday houses is not possible. TADO completely ignores customers request for this and these reviews never mention it either. Bought one and can’t use it. It’s garbage to me for this reason.

This review focuses on ACs and has nothing to do with heat pumps. The lowest setting for Tado heating features is 5C (just checked it on the radiator) so you should first check your heat pump for compatibility and then maybe the possible available settings.
