Great video 👍 in short i can just make 1 radiator smart? In long, if i just buy 1 radiator thermostat and install it in my bedroom (still will only the old heating thermostat in the house) then my radiator can be smart controlled once our heating is on? And the thermostat keeps the room at your selected temperature automatically?

Also do I need the radiocontrols in the living room or will normal controls do the trick with the tado thermostat and still be able to provide other rooms with more warmth even if the living room needs less? Or do you need radiocontrols on ALL of the radiators?

I am also investing in such a system prior to buying a new Viessmann 200 for my small home, around 7 or 8 rariothermostats except for the living room that will be controlled by the thermostat itself. Most important is room temperature control when the kids leave the house. I can turn it on/off with the app? So if I am driving home I can turn up the heat myself, don't really need geofencing for that. Am I right or am I missing something? Input would really help... Thanks

Once you've configured your internet bridge using the ethernet cable and router does the bridge have to stay connected to the router via an ethernet cable or can you disconnect it and it will connect via wifi to your router?

Can you place the thermostat in the same room as the radiator TVR? I've read no, but it TADO SMART enough make them work together properly?

If your TRV is too far away from your Internet bridge what do you do? Do you need a second bridge? I have a wifi extender in said room but the TRV still couldn't connect when I tried setting it up

Thanks, great video. So, I have TADO + Extension kit for the house. It controls the entire house except the Master Bedroom which has it’s own control (non-smart). I was thinking about getting a second TADO Thermostat and creating a new Living Room Zone. That will cost me circa £109.00. If I install a Smart Radiator Thermostat at fifty quid less, will that not achieve the same result?

Hi! Yes, we did the same thing. Started with tado + extension kit, then later added radiator controllers to get individual room control. Much more affordable, and also more effective, since rooms that don't need heat at particular times can be shut off completely , thus saving more money!

New Home Tricks: Thanks for that. I was about to order a Radiator Thermostat and I noticed the living room doesn’t have a TRV. Unbelievably the Hallway does have a TRV and that is were the House Thermostat is located. Never buy a Barratt House, their heating layouts are terrible. This is my second bad experience with them. Swapping the valves over is way beyond my technical capability and I don’t imagine getting a plumber in to to do it will be cheap.

were you have youre thermostat the radiator should have lock shield values on it not trv valves

I have installed all the radiator thermostats but still have a wall thermostatt that turns the whole house off and on and specific times. How do I hardwire that so it's always on?

good video and seems simple, thanks for sharing. Does the Tado control hot water on a combi boiler?

Thanks for the feedback! A combi boiler provides hot water on demand, so there's not much to control beyond maybe the temperature, so Tado offers no control here. Tado only offers hot water control for systems with a hot water tank, which must be heated on a schedule.

Hi Darren. I'm just dipping my toe in this water but my understanding is that yes it can using the Smart Thernostat. That's all you need for a wired system. For a wireless thermostat (which is what I currently have) you also need an extension kit - so the two parts replace the two parts I currently have on our combi. Thanks for this very helpful guide ! Just one question : do we need to cut off the water before installing the valve ?

No. If your radiator already has a Thermostatic Radiator Valve (TRV), then you'll simply be changing the head, as shown in the video, and you won't need to drain your heating system down! :) You can even make this change whilst your heating system is running - just watch out for hot pipes! If your radiator does not currently have a TRV unit, then you'll be requiring a full valve replacement, which would indeed require the heating system be drained down. If you're not comfortable doing this, then call for a specialist to carry out the work. Well worth the upgrade though, as it can help save you money on your heating bills :)

Fine if everything works - but if it doesn't the potential problems aren't even listed, nevermind solutions identified. A them with Tado literature.

The valve must be on or off before u put the digital valve on the heater??

Either - you can change the head regardless of what state your heating is in at the time - just be careful not to scald yourself on any hot pipes if you're fitting the head whilst the heating is running!

Does this work just normally with central heating or do you need a smart thermostat that controls boiler and hot water?

You just need a hub, one per household but if you add more devices system it will expand your heating and control time your boiler starts and stops plus many other features.

I’m failing to “snap” mine back on after it got loose 😞 What could I be doing wrong?

If you're referring to snapping the main body onto the 'base' - sometimes this is a bit tricky yes! Best I can advise is try to keep as firm a hold as possible on the base (from underneath) as you can, whilst rotating the upper part into place.
