Chon-Ji is the first of the 24 forms of the Chang-Hon form system named after the penname of General Choi Hong-Hi who developed this set of forms. Chon-Ji means "heaven and earth" in Korean and refers to the creation of the world or the beginning of human history and thus is the initial form learned by the beginner.

Stuart Anslow wrote a 3 volumes encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do Ch'ang Hon federation. ITF-K and Taekwondo times has also changed the 15 volumes and brought it out in 2008. ITF-V is currently updating the Condensed Encyclopedia for a new release within the next few years. American Taekwondo Association (ATA) (also known as the McDojos of TKD federations) has written an encyclopedia and releases it only to their own followers.

I like the Karate type Arm Crossing for low block. but.. Gen Choi never taught it this way.

The hard part of "practiced as it was developed" is that it was developed and modified so much over time. Many of the changes occurred during the late 70's-Early 80's, when several of the early masters where separating from Gen. Choi due to political pressure and personal difference. Respect to GM Hwang Kwang Sung...TAE-KWON!

You guys fail to realize every school for tae kwon do teaches it differently, and for a school to succeed they need to do their own things and teach different, sure his references to general choi may be wrong and his form might not be proper we need to respect how he executes and teaches tae kwon do

+John McCain If a TaeKwon-Do school is not going to follow the way that General Choi left for us in the encyclopedias and the school is going to do its own version of the forms then they are NOT Gen Choi forms they are independent school forms and the name of the creator should be removed. You are right, if the school wants to do its own thing because it wants to be different is respected, but using the General Choi's name and try to teach it online there own way is what's wrong.

@tkdoA322 Thank you for pointing out that the development of TKD was part of rebuilding the Korean national identity after WWII at the end of a long Japanese occupation. General Choi has a 2nd degree BB in Shotokan Karate which he learned while he studied math, English and, well, Karate in Kyoto, Japan before WWII. He received his BB in Karate in 1939 and his 2nd degree soon afterwards. He himself stated that he combined the elements of taekkyeon and Shotokan Karate to create TKD.

Yes, Mr. Suska does awesome forms! Ours are somewhat different in a number of features including the lack of wave motion. If you want to link his video as a video response, go ahead and do so.

From what I gather, the "sine-wave" was incoporated by Gen. Choi in the 1980's. Chang Hon tul have been taught before that without the signature up and down motion. This earlier style of forms were used for training Korean soldiers whose reputation for courage, decision making, and lethality had spread all over the world by Gen. Choi and soldiers in Vietnam. Not surprising, this is what is passed on and one of the reaons ITF groups can't agree.

@aabrado2 Actually this is a very interesting thought. Given that Family Karate traces its history back to Master Jhoon Rhee who was teaching, well, Karate in Texas before General Choi convinced him to change the name of his studio to Tae Kwon Do, there is something to be said about the hybridization of the two martial arts.

for a 2nd degree black belt, his stances are rather poor. His upper body seems to be having trouble finding a central position(6:10) and his back leg forgets to lock on some front stances(2:56, 3:30). Shouldn't this guy perform the beginner technique like, I don't know, perhaps a professional?
@berimli
@berimli 12 жыл бұрын
@TheShaDex1337 It is different. _You_ need to do it the way _your_ master wants you to do it. However, also understand that different studios around the world do have different interpretations based on a variety of factors. They are all based on General Choi's original version, but even he modified his forms over time.

@tkdoA322 I don't know for sure; after all, I'm just another pupil and a rather new one at that. On the other hand, from what I've read in research and heard from masters (including 1 person who had met Gen. Choi), it's mostly political and human nature due to TKD being a South Korean government initiative. Even among the original masters, some decided to remain unaffiliated. Beyond that, we all do what our instructor says, don't we? :-)

@foreshadow20 There is a version of the encyclopedia of TKD that was _not_ written by General Choi?

I'm sorry but all this arm blocks, position of the arms an movements are completely wrong. For been the first form and not do it right says a lot about his sensei not paying attention to details. Thanks for the video but the visual teaching is wrongfully executed.

+Emmanuel Reyes "...not do it right says a lot about his sensei not paying attention to details." There are no "sensei" in Taekwondo; that's a Japanese term, and TKD is Korean. ;-)

***** Thank you for the correction, I know in TKD is called Sabumnim but since school is called Family Karate PQ, that makes them a Japanese school. Also he is not using a TKD uniform, but a karate uniform which also make him a Sensei :-)

You seriously need to read the condensed encyclopedia. There's more erroneous movements than right movements. Chang-Hon or not does not matter, read any version of the condensed encyclopedia!
