Old man Tae Kwon Do! I love it. Way better than athletic TKD demos.

I'm a 60+ weightlifter/boxer/wrestler and used to free fight up to about 15 years ago, with all assortment of martial artist styles and the one thing I have learnt, is never learn only one style. I've finished most street fights within seconds, with a good old fashioned solid boxers punch to the head. But if it went to the ground, my wrestling skills would then kick in. I fought a 5th dan Shotokan, who had another two other black belt styles under his belt, but soon as we fought, I took him to the ground within minutes and got a submission with a neck hold. I have also been attacked/stabbed with a knife, but it was never the same as seen in these video's, where someone robotically lunges forwards for demonstration preposes. This guy in a nightclub lunged forward to stab me, so in that split second all I could do, was to grab the knife as it plunged into my inside wrist. But because the attacker was so close, I pulled him inwards and kneed him in the face and finished him off with a flurry of punches and kicks, managing to avoid going to the ground, because he had several mates standing close to me. I not trying to call any one particular style, but you must train for ground work, wrestling, BJJ, Judo etc. People will argue the toss, but I've been around the block too many times to mention and after all my fighting days, at least I'll collect my pension. I think Taekwondo exams are too hard for nothing. You should not have to do all this stuff for a DAN degree. First, there is the age barrier. You should not be expected to be able to do those acrobatic kicks (shown at the beginning) at that age, especially that these is are not even relevant for a martial art (self-defense bias). Second, this folding of the eyes is an absolute non-sense. If you can't see, you're basically dead on the street, no matter how good you think you are. I don't think even Bruce Lee could do something with folded eyes. The only relevant parts here imho were the Kata and the Tameshiwari, and that's where the true weaknesses showed up: if you don't do Kata well, you can't break boards effectively. The guy showing the Kata here had huge deficits in power generation from within the body, and was just punching with his arms only during the Kata, which showed quickly during the Tameshiwari, which he couldn't break easily, even though the boards were not extremely thick. I saw masters in Okinawa being able to break FIVE boards (3 inches total) with a single punch. One of them is the renowned Masaaki Ikemiyagi is you wanna look him up.
