Hello and welcome to a new video on Uboat. In this video, we get command of our first uboat designated U-606 as we take her on a new mission to sink enemy shipping in the Battle of the Atlantic
UBOAT
UBOAT is a simulator of a submarine from WWII era, yet different than all you have seen so far. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.
In UBOAT you control the crew in order to control the boat. You look after their physical and mental health, because if the sailors are hungry, tired and their spirit is low, there’s no chance of winning even a skirmish.
Survival
The extensive damage system is a foundation of the game's survival elements. Unprecedented situations are bound to happen as the effect of received damage, testing player's creativity and ability to stay calm. You can try to save the whole crew or leave someone behind, to save the others.
While your ship travels through the open seas, you will often find yourself being on your own. Use your management skills to spend resources taken on the trip optimally and in special cases try to recover them on the sea, by asking your allies for the help... or by looting wreckages of enemy ships.
Disable unnecessary devices, to keep your accumulators running for longer.
Tell your crew to stay in their bunks to preserve oxygen.
If crew's morale is low - play with them a session of Skat or play music from nearby radio stations, to fortify their hearts.
Kriegsmarine career
During the playthrough you will receive assignments from the Kriegsmarine headquarters. They are never linear and you may receive additional orders during them or face unexpected problems.
Brave completion of assignments from the headquarters is rewarded with additional budget for the unit under your command and with acceptance of your growing reputation as an u-boat's skipper. You will need that, to upgrade your ship and keep up with enemy's technological advances.
Upgrade your boat for the rewarded funds.
Receive additional permissions for the reputation points.
Buy new equipment - new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers and much more.
Send your officers on special tasks in the headquarters to, among other things, speed up a research of new technologies.
Accurate simulation
Game's simulation elements are very realistic, but that never comes at a cost of gameplay quality. Despite extensive simulation elements, UBOAT can be played like a regular game and complex matters can be learned later to become a better skipper for the commanded unit.
Even small things like the influence of ballast in each compartment on the ship's trim (tilt) or Earth's curvature are faithfully reproduced in the game.
Perfection can be achieved in many ways. Prove your management skills and swiftly assign work to your officers to speed things up. If, on the other hand, you think that if something needs to be done, it's better to do that on your own - sit behind the periscope, hydrophone or 88 mm deck gun and take matters in your own hands!

During WW2, both sides sometimes fitted trawlers with weapons and equipment you would only expect from warships. Maybe because warships such as destroyers and even as small as corvettes were too small in number and often needed elsewhere. Japanese knew the other ways around too: It occurred to them that no war lasts forever. That is why they planned and manufactured their smallest warships (smaller than destroyers) so that it would be easy to install fishing nets to them as soon as they were stripped of guns, sonars and depth charges and sold to civilian entities so it would not take long after the signing of peace treaty before they could start large scale commercial fishing.

You're going to put munitions in the sunken civilian ship, so you can say "I told you so", OMG!!! That's hilarious. Great narrative, I really enjoy these.

Thank you for giving us (your loyal Taff team) the full mission video, and not some edited version that conveniently skips over what could be uncomfortable - but for the record I am with the other commentors who have pointed out some other plausible assessments! We will be right here for the 606's next adventure.

Nothing like eating my breakfast to that thump thump music of U-Boat. Cheers mate. Duds must have been so very frustrating for submarine crews. The Germans and British both had problems but they fixed most of theirs by late 1940. Of course mass production is always going to produce faults regardless. Unlucky to get 2 Duds though. Just be thankful your not in the American Navy with the dreaded Mark 14! Took 2 full years to finally get all the bugs fixed on them The US Dept of Ordinance actively resisted all attempts to fix all the problems with that torpedo blaming everyone but the torpedoes for their failings. Oops although how could you have known it was a civilian ship? Put it in the same category as US subs sinking Japanese ships carrying Allied PoWs.

One reason for such failure of the mk 14 was that it had some kind of magnetic sensor that was calibrated outside of their area of operation (if im remembering correctly), another reason was they never did a live fire test stating that it was just too expensive to waste a torpedo, though the dummy fire test were accurate and had the same result on the battlefield.

@@willreaver1425 Absolutely correct . Interestingly the German Directorate of Ordinance were also stubborn arsholes who refused to believe the U-Boat captains. However, unlike the Americans who did not punish anyone for their recalcitrance in admitting the Torps failures, several top officials of the Torpedo Directorate were court martialed for negligence in duties. Admiral Dönitz would write in his memoirs: "For the lessons one fails to learn during peacetime, one pays a high price in war".

I think Zaunkönigs (T5s) were designed to be for uboats defense against warships armed with depth charges, hedgehogs etc instead of sinking the big ships. Of course they pick the strongest noise signals and in convoy setting it is usually the destroyers steam turbine.

USSR merchant flag is typically a yellow hammer & sickle on a red background. If that passenger vessel had a Naval flag, that means it was commandeered to carry troops and/or war materiel. Hence, no war crime, Taff. I THINK!!!

If it was a Vietnamese ship, it wouldn't have flown the red flag. It would have been the yellow flag with the small tricolour in the corner.

@@Robert53area The yellow flag with 3 red lines was adopted by the State of Vietnam and later the Republic of Vietnam. The French Indochina flag for Vietnam is yellow with the tricolour on top left corner. Technically, Vietnam existed in 1944, if only by name, as it had been a French protectorate since 1883 and its capital was in Hue, headed by a king.

Excellent episode taff, more tonnage sent to the seabed and more trophies added to the belt of trophies. 1944.. now's the time to be ready for some hardship and struggle, the allies will be in France soon via Normandy, and it's a case of holding on as long as possible. Sinking as many allied ships as possible will be vital to the German war effort, running amok will cause the allies some headaches, but.. best keep eyes open.. with allied Air power and advanced sonar and anti-submarine weaponry, your in for a struggle indeed. Taking down a civilian transport.. Well.. it happens, it's the fog of war.. mistaken identity to even deliberate acts, it happens.. if you get pulled when the allies win.. just be honest, stick to your guns and say it was mistaken identity. Torpedo failures, resources are stretched to even sabotage.. another problem of this war at this time, just do what you can and think of nothing else. Great episode mate, great series 👍

"Looks like the Vietnam flag" basically it is. Game devs decided to censor anything controversial like swastikas and the hammer and sickle. There is a mod to add the historically accurate flags back in. In all seriousness if you're going to make a game based on historical events please go all in or not at all. The war happened, it was horrible, but it happened. Get over yourselves modern game devs, this is the equivalent of showing violence on TV while censoring the naughty words at the same time.

I think it’s partly to sell the game in Germany(even though I don’t think there’s a big market for WWII-themed games there for obvious reasons) German law outlaws displaying Nazi imagery in anything except serious historical contexts.

Fun fact: The deck gun can hit the water and still hit the ship. It just needs to be close, too far and the shell will lose velocity and miss.
@Cybernaut76
@Cybernaut76 10 ай бұрын
If the gun is very large and of very high velocity, it can penetrate anything: the 120mm shells fired by American Abrams tanks penetrated sandwalls and hit and destroyed Iraqi Republican Guard tanks being protected (not so successfully) by those walls.

Wouldn’t be Chinese or Vietnamese at this time; China was using what is now the Taiwanese flag, and the current Vietnamese flag only dates from the Vietnam War. Plus, I believe the entire Chinese coast (and French Indochina, as Vietnam was known at this point) was under Japanese occupation, so I doubt they’d have many merchant ships in the Atlantic.
