This was a great dance, she had proper form and went with the music because she is expressing or making the music with her body. Unfortunately, many of the Islanders are losing their heritage. In the past 100 years the whole world has become more united and many countries have become so modern they lose their ancient skills. Great job to this lady, one of the more authentic dances I have seen in a long time.

It’s called colonialism! Authentic m? The whole dance and culture is authentic because it’s still alive and the dance was revived after being banned for 3 generations due to the influence of Christian Missionaries! Always ironic and a paradox when privileged white people go on these indigenous and cultural videos, telling us about us being too modern, loosing our culture etc, when you literally caused it!

If I'd been a member of Captain Bligh's crew on HMS Bounty, and I'd seen a woman like her, I would've gone AWOL, no doubt about it whatsoever! I now understand completely why his crew had mutinied the way they had, way back then!
@kilipaki87oritahiti2 жыл бұрын
So you romanticize colonialism? And they didn’t even dance like this back then. The dance was banned by King Pomare. Then revived back in the 40’s or 60’s. pre colonial times, only the chief was allowed to witness this in private.

Yes, the hip rotation is basically simple, the trick is getting good at it. This girl is about as good as they get, going on the last lot of years.
