To my utterly untrained eye, it looks like a very gracious dance. But having read 'The Art Of Learning' by Josh Waitzkin, I have come to understand that it is a martial art that is far more subtle and advanced than I, as a non-practitioner, could possibly hope to understand. I bet I'm missing out on a lot of subtleties here that someone who is trained in this art, will notice and appreciate. Nevertheless, it is an amazing sight to behold. Very gracious.

these guys are doing a really beautiful job of moving push hands, with incredibly low stances. You just try to keep that low a stance even for a minute and you will be sore for a week if not used to it. this kind of training if for sensitivity and feeling distance while keeping balance. It is very advanced. How to keep so relaxed while in those low stances? years and years of training. If you can find a teacher and have the patience and commitment, go for it.

This is very advanced. Very fortunate to be able to see.

If you ever wish to, find someone who is willing to do it. It's actually my favorite thing as a student and practitioner in Tai Chi Quan. My sifu (Though, he prefers if I call him by his name) does this with me all the time. The idea of the art is to feel out your opponent's force or "Listen with the wrists". To start out simply, do it with one hand, push as if grabbing for the neck, then your partner pushes, turn your hips and left your toe, shift the weight forward, repeat.
@thomasbrown37932 жыл бұрын
I think it's kind of funny when people call their Kung Fu teachers Sifu; in China it's the equivalent to referring to someone as "Sir,". You can call anyone a Sifu...even a cab driver. It's not a title or anything. If a Chinese teacher wants to be called that I can respect it because its culturally relevant...but when white teachers want to be called Sifu like it's an honored rank I think it's really strange.

@DJGahann One of the uses of pushing hands is to develop sensitivity and is used when Taiji / Tai Chi is used as a martial art. In a lot of ways its similar to the sensitivity concepts learned in Wing Chun's "Chi Sao" Training.

I will give you credit my new friend because you are in advanced stages to move around with pushhands.... when you give, give in the direction of your opponent. If you give to the torso, push to the center of the torso...if resemble downward strike, give to strike in real direction....

I've never seen this done before, but I imagine that must be really tough on thighs and calves, staying that low for minutes. Also I'd like to think judokas could benefit from this exercise as this is a form of grip fighting. Anyone to confirm this?
@Facehate6668 жыл бұрын
+diynevala On the guy in white, I'd say it hurt him a lot more because he didn't let his feet sink back down to the earth. As opposed to the guy in red whose feet immediately sank.
@Ancientneutrality8 жыл бұрын
+Black .Baron neither felt it if they are masters the vertical Chinese squat which is the most fundamental step is practiced all day aligning the spine underneath the feet. We do it while waiting for work while eating as well. Doing it for hours straight sometimes. But your right that the white uniform man didn't rock and ground into the heel that well so his form is not as good.
@Facehate6668 жыл бұрын
Austin I practice Wing Chun and am looking into Tai Chi to supplement my training as it has a lot of the same ideas. Sinking your feet into the ground to absorb force and keep good structure is a large part of the Wing Chun stance/stepping.
@Ancientneutrality8 жыл бұрын
+Black .Baron honestly Wing Chun is a lesser art as it is originating from white crane and snake mixed with shaolin. It is big in the western world and was big with Bruce Lee who didn't make it far in his studies before adventuring and drawing from many others. But if your going to use tai chi use the martial form, Chen Taiji Quan
@Facehate6668 жыл бұрын
Austin It is considered one of the great martial arts from Southern China. and I think the effectiveness of it depends on how you're taught, your natural affinity and who's teaching you.

@DJGahann Tai Chi Push Hands is a double training methods which practitioners can exercise the perception of the other power direction, placement, and work out their own coping strategies, rapid uniform each other.

when you recieve, ride along with the givers power and do not use any energy. Twist your waist!! this is a basic principle that can be lost easily...In ju-jitsu, your uke must strike to hit you. It is not good practice to push around you. I see many people striking with a block....overall I bet you live alot longer in life because of your efforts. good job.

pretty good but not good enough for pajamas.........some moves have lost their authentic meaning........I see strikes thrown to know where. It is not perfect training. Do we really want to recieve strikes that would not hit us? and not good practice to strike around someone and not at them. It is not a good practice to do this.

@ancientwisdom2012 Hello,I watched the video what you give me.the old master is Ma Yueliang,a representative successors of wu style tai chi chuan.he had good tai chi chuan skill.but in this video,because he was very old,his opponent only use feeling,not use power.if his opponent push hand with more power or energy,another result will happen.
@deffcon914 жыл бұрын
I will have to disagree, the greatest strength man have, is determination, if you dedicate yourself, to do a low stance, and put your heart and soul into it, you can easily do 5 mins of stance without being sore for much longer than a day, i think you speak too highly of this video, it is not as hard as you make it sound
@interestingyoutubechannel112 жыл бұрын
two questions- 1. are wing chun's single hand, double hand, & chi sao drills, beneficial for the sensitivity of opponent's force directions, lines etc., as found in chi sao push hands? 2. if no master is available in your location, is it possible to learn chi sao from books & videos alone?
@jestfullgremblim80022 жыл бұрын
Answer to first question: Yes, yes they are. Answer to second question: in theory, you can! But you'll need a training partner, it will not work by yourself.

Hey is push hands like an exercise or something to help balance perhaps?
@Sanguinarian156 жыл бұрын
Tui Shou (push hands) is a non-agressive two person exercise in Taijiquan that increases sensitivity to external forces, and teaches one how to nuetralize and redirect oncoming force. If one player over extends or over exerts, the other player can take advantage and pull or push the other off balance. The goal is to become so sensitive, that the "opponent" can't feel the other person at all.
