@@mickeyk9218 Nope. I studied both judo and taiji. Taiji is weird, you can literally ground yourself so deeply and absorb force that even my previous judo friends couldn't uproot me. It's not very practical, as a fighting art. But if you mixed them together it would be very powerful. People don't understand taiji and how subtly powerful the grounding is. Its like trying to up root a bamboo root fully dug 20 feet into the ground. It will bend and redirect force but it won't break.

@angel666 I have nothing against judo, I think it's one of the best MA out there simply because they actually get on the mats & practice. A lot of striking arts end up with people standing in lines punching the air. What I'm disagreeing with is the idea that the judo guys in this video were not actually trying. The way I see it is the Chinese guy had a decent stance, end of story. But some people are saying that it's a Chinese communist plot to entrench kung fu, that they bribed the judo guys to go easy on him..I just think that's a load of horse sh^t

+Georgi “Kaze” Marinov Did you read the dialog? As in 1:06 : "Today I come to consult and see which one is stronger. Tai Chi or Judo?". That calls for a real randori, not a parody. I practiced Judo since I was 14. Under two strict Senseis (Sensei Rodríguez and Sensei Feliciano) and later on under Sensei Hiromi Tomita (hellish in a good way) and learned quite a bit about Judo's philosophy and discipline, besides technique. In my book you don't make a parody of the discipline in order to make it look this or that way, you do Judo. Period. He had the chance to throw the Tai Chi practitioner in multiple occasions and he didn't (because he wasn't even trying to take a proper stance, unbalance, or make a proper grip). You can't practice Judo unless both parties are willing to eat the Tatame. Concerning the rest, you are just talking gibberish or you would know why I mentioned there was no good kumi-kata, or stance; ergo, no possibility of projection. It's quite evident you are not a Judo practitioner. Much less a Dan. 2:28-2:50 for example it's an embarrassing mockery of Harai-goshi (no kuzushi) to portrait he "tried something". You practice Tai Chi, fantastic, you can talk about it all you want. Just don't try to teach me about something I practiced for 22 years. You can't have a true perspective about a martial art unless you practice it. That's why I can offer a judoka's perspective, and that's why I don't speak about Tai Chi. Telling the truth has nothing to do with humility or the lack of it. That's that. P.S. I dislike Ronda Rousey's personality quite a lot by the way.

There are so many fakes that I think some practitioners have lost the ability to understand the real thing when they see it, especially those who have never actually sparred against a resisting opponent. After 30 years in martial arts and 15 years coaching - likely more than the supposed master in this video, I will say that I have seen more believable, realistic footage in WWE fake wrestling. If people think this was real then they believe The Onion and a Batboy story on the weekly world news to be real. If that stings, it's because you have never sparred in your life or because you have never actually trained against a resisting opponent. If this was real, the Tai Chi guy would enter a Judo competition, make a ton of money or show the world how effective Tai Chi is and his school. He can't and won't because he's a fraud. Sorry about the boo-boo on your feelings, but hopefully you'll open your eyes before something in the real world happens like you are attacked, try the bogus martial art you train in and beat up badly.

I started Judo age 9, haven’t practised for a long time until recent. Here I saw many opportunities for a throw not being executed. Either the Judoka was a yellow belt and just for TV had to wear a black belt, or out of respect and for the sake of his peace ( in China) went along and played the game-who knows. The concept of a strong rooting by the TaiChi master was demonstrated. Yet, the TaiChi master should feel a bit ashamed of his ‘victory’.

To declare the taichi guy "won" in this case is absurd. from the speed of movement of the judo guy you can see he's not serious about attacking. he did not try to fake and off balance. for most of the contest he did not try to get a good grip (under hook or head control). his foot sweeps were just for show as he attacked when the taichi guy had perfect balance and was not vulnerable. as a judo practitioner who trains week in week out and have thrown so many opponents over the years, he clearly knows how to throw but isn't using what he knows

Even among judo practitioners, bigger size and weight always have advantages. That meant that it is difficult for smaller size and body weight people to throw bigger and heavier people, especially when both sides are prepared and aware for a fight. It is easier to throw or jam a person off balance when done in quick and unaware situation.

@@andrealaplaca247 I do actually, I studied under Fran Farrel (RIP). I think you might have some unreasonable expectations vs an art that is focused on taking someone down. In fact this video, as I found out a couple years later, was not all genuine as well. I am a past judo instructor whereby I spent 26 years in this wonderful Olympic Sport Art, and also have spent about 30 years in Taijiquan Yang long-form. I have always noticed the similarities of both arts; its probably why I stayed in Martial Arts for so long. If the Taiji Master was trying to demonstrate his rooting capabilities then this was a very good example and demonstration. However, I know the black belt instructor was most diffidently showing respect and not using any of the throws or take downs that are natural for this type of stance that the Master was holding. He could have easily did uchimata (inner leg reap) or kouchimata (inner heal sweep) one after the other would have put our Tai Chi Master on his back. But like I said, it was a demonstration of actual respect and showed favoritism to the Taiji form.

No I do not have a video. If you actually watch this video the judoka attempts several inner and outer tripping techniques but he is unable to root himself solidly to apply these techniques. Its not some magic force preventing him it is simply that he has lost his centre and so has nothing to lever his own techniques against.

I dont think it's a question of it being fake. I train in japanese martial arts myself and it's well known if you keep your center of gravity lower than your opponent they wont be able to utilize throws. If you watch the clip carefully the chinese guys hips are much lower than the judokas. Thus the judokas left with no choice but to try to use force, pretty much the opposite of what judo is about.

This "Wang" dude was disrespectful as fuck in the beginning. I wouldda kicked his ass out. You don't walk in someone's space of training, basically these judoka's second home and say "lol I think tai chi is better than judo xD". Even if he could back it up, you just don't say shit like that. You can't fairly say that one combat sport is better than the rest. It always depends on the practitioners. I bet somewhere out there, there's a judoka that could dominate Wang. We just haven't seen him yet. And it's the same for Tai Chi. I'm not trying to be biased for judo, I'm just saying there are all kinds of different people out there with varying skill levels of any combat sport.

well i studied tai chi chuan yang chen and a little bit of the others i did both i'm a practitioner of both styles that i mentioned and in tai chi it's worth doing nothing or doing nothing to redirect blows and take down but it's not such a good strategy why if you don't do anything taijiquan explosive techniques that would be those shoulder strikes with pushes are effective so it's not really recommended not to do nothing and that doesn't have in judo then right and it's also a martial art against the other in taijquan it's not worth touching the hand on the ground it's not worth touching the knee the only thing you can touch is the sole of the feet already in judo it's different so they are different martial arts with different rules so you can't expect a rule to apply to another martial art why then you are leaving your opponent's martial art weakened to such rules usually with the rules of the opponents more than yours

@@viobull5548 yes you are correct the focus of judo is to be a sport to fight against other sportsmen of the same rules but taijiquan can be classified in that because there are unique rules in taijiquan and yes jiujiteiros say that judokas like to do beautiful takedowns and you can see that it's a reality where they want to take their opponent to the ground in the most beautiful and refined way possible, you can see it in olympic championships where judokas wait, attack, throw themselves and then roll to go up, they tend to make beautiful takedowns and that's a reality already tai chi chuan or taijiquan focuses on taking down in as many ways as possible and just explaining yes in taijiquan you can grab the legs normally both both legs as well as one this is not something unique that applies in the rules of jiu jitsu or similar and taijiquan has submissions not so much common in taijiquan challenges since the focus is on taking down more fights in chenjiagou the village of the chen family in taijiquan to a recording where they practice submissions later a protection or grab it I'll see if I can find the video and I'll send it to you

More Non sequitur crap from naive uploaders. It does not follow that Tai Chi is better than Judo because one master stays on his feet in one bout of non-combat nonsense, just as it doesn't make judo better if the Tai chi man falls over, this is a strawman. In the totality of real combat neither Tai Chi or Judo would need to be employed as in fact Tai Chi, Judo, Boxing, Karate, etc, etc, do not exist in 'Liberated' minds as styles are for immature children only, mature men see beyond the playground and into the battlefields of combat. Ask yourself this...How long would they have been doing their supposed styles if either one of them had of gone for an eye gouge, groin grab, throat grab, knee to the groin, foot stamp, etc???. How long?.... Reality turns the 'Organised Despair' into dust with just a single wave of its hand. Sincerely, Jimi:-).

LMA UK Good lord, you're misguided. And arrogant, if you think you can just dismiss and place yourself as above codified combat practices which have informed battlefield tactics for centuries (and still do today) as "for immature children." The *point* is that since every single thing you mentioned is INSIDE of at least some codified fighting systems, and since those fighting systems have been used in myriad combat situations over the years, the idea that there is no way a martial artist training in any fighting style could possibly employ their art because their opponent uses one of those is asinine and puts your ignorance on full display.
@MichaelWestonAnimates
@MichaelWestonAnimates 10 жыл бұрын
LMA UK Now, there is *some* truth to your words, though I don't think you actually realize it. 1. Codified fighting systems are artificial; they ultimately all point to a core of honing the ability to employ force efficiently with your body, be aware of your opponent and environment, and deal with hostile incoming force effectively. That does NOT make them useless, it just leads to the second point... 2. It does NOT follow from this video that Taiji is better than Judo. Since they work from the same set of body skills, what this actually showed was that this Taiji practitioner was more advanced in his skill than the Judo practitioner was. Now get the fuck out with your elitist bullshit :-)

I am guessing just like everybody else. I wouldn't call myself neither a tai chi nor a judo practitioner. The judo black belt looks quite strong and most likely practiced judo for a long time, at least for 10 years. However, it was not easy to unbalance the tai chi master for a simple reason: tai chi practitioner practices to maintain balance a lot. In fact that's what the tai chi master said, test his "rooting". I am pretty sure he practices the push hands and rooting a lot. Maybe, there was previously agreed rules. Judo black belt didn't use many techniques. Somebody mentioned high grip was not used. Whatever it is, it looks like it cannot be used even though judo practitioner's hand was at the neck. Tai Chi master had a low balanced posture. There was too much gap between them for the most of the time. Balance must be destroyed before that kind of the techniques are used. Tai Chi master maintained the balance and the judo black belt didn't when he tried to apply the leg sweeping technique.

+MICHAEL JUNG I do Judo and BJJ. The black belt was taking it easy or this show is rigged. He threw no combinations (where you set up a throw with another throw). He also didn't really change direction (Where you push one way to force a reaction and then suddenly change direction to make it easier to off balance them)

+MICHAEL JUNG I'm in the same boat as Mark (do both), and the performance of this black belt is shameful. I could throw this idiot. Given his stance, uchimata would be my preference, but I see many other options.

Not watching it, just answering messages from trolls like you. You are full of BS. You are a paid CCP troll and it is UNAMERICAN, UNJAPANESE, UNAUSTRALIAN and stupid for any citizen of any country to buy Chinese product. Every time a US person or Japanese buys a Chinese product they are paying for bullets and bombs that will be aimed at them. Everyone knows what you are really like now.

Please don't upload phony videos like this! Tai Chi is an excellent self-defense system. I've practiced Tai Chi for 30+ years and love it. Having watched this video at least 5 times, I can't believe the judo man failed to execute simple takedowns like tomoe nage or yoko guruma, or, seoinage. Or, Osotogari which is my favorite judo leg reap. When properly executed, there is no defense to solid judo. Your opponent will fall, period.

I think the key is in Master Wang's statement at 1:28 when he say's "I think in some situations Judo might not be able to beat Taiji" - I think personally that this imposed constraints on what the Judoka were allowed to attack with - it is clear form their movements that they could have implemented the attacks you suggest and Master Wang would have had no real defence.

@Kokwah Tan - Less than 1% of Tai Chi Academies allow sparring. It's not the art that lacks capability, it's the instructor. As you are well aware (there are judo styles throws, jointlocks, elbow, and knees strikes in traditional Taijiquan. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eJ18gLx4ybG6Yas.html

For Judokas - An ouchi gari or kouchi gari or would have work well here. Regardless of his stability, the throws would have taken his entire footing off the ground. Intact the low CG would probably add to the effectiveness of the throw when it comes to ouchi/kocuhi gari.
