Well done Sensei! I’m watching your turning and find it interesting how your feet seem to collect at a neutral center before opening into zenkutsu dachi. In the slow motion it’s clearer to see. This is a concept I have been playing with a lot, the in between. We call it zeroing out as if necessary you could change feet, direction and adapt easier to opponents changes during the corse of moving forward or even turning. Other uses of being feet together in neutral or zeroing out are weight lead. An example would be a bo in your hands in zenkutsu dachi.. bo forward as the finish of a strike.. you want to lift the opponents weapon or arm in a let’s say “control”.. ok forget that.. someone is standing in front of you and the bo and pushing downward... you try from zenkutsu dachi to lift the front end of your bo while the person is applying pressure downward. Feel how heavy that person feels on the end of your bo.. while you are still in zenkutsu dachi bring back foot to front foot to more standing collecting your weight to one spot or actually leading your weight forward to give more leverage to lift the front of the bo. This is also shown in Shotokan’s Heian Shodan.. the moving from zenkutsu dachi gedan barai to niko ashi dachi doing the pull and then hammer fist. For leverage and weight lead. Great video!! Excellent kata taikyoku kata are excellent!!

What do you need to shout while doing this kata , please answer me it's urgent
@OkinawaDojobyKarateBrosDenver
@OkinawaDojobyKarateBrosDenver 6 жыл бұрын
The name of that shout is "kiai". However, there is no certain way it should be pronounced or yelled. Every fighter would have their personal sound. It is a release of energy right at the end of execution of one of the strongest techniques in kata. Or in sparing. It is effective both physically emphasizing a technique and mentally intimidating an opponent.

Let me see if I understand this correctly…. I see “Okinawa Dojo”. Yet I see Shotokan (Japanese Karate) version Taikyoku. Honestly, there is much difference between Japanese and Okinawan karate.
@OkinawaDojobyKarateBrosDenver

The Dojo’s name is “Okinawa” because karate was originated in Okinawa. But we are Shotokan style Dojo. I understand your confusion, you are bot the first one.

I'm sure Kata has it's benefits, looks like it helps with memory if you try to remember all the steps in Kata, probably with breathing and form too. But nobody fights with reverse punches anymore, most skilled martial artists are mixed martial artists and they don't use reverse punches in UFC or MMA. They don't have one arm back and one arm forward. Most have their hands up protecting their face. Maybe hundreds of years ago everybody fought like gentlemen using these punches, but not now. I'm about to take my first Karate class soon and see what Karate has to offer or not offer. I'm a little sad by this and hope my former instructor goes back to teaching Judo as 100 percent of fights start standing up but 80 percent of fights end up on the ground. I was a former brown belt in Judo and a current orange belt in Hapkido and I see the usefulness in those 2 styles which are basically the same with the usefulness of Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and boxing. I think it's cool how the person in this video has a black belt that is all worn out, it shows how much he's practiced this particular style. But I do not believe in sticking to one style and learning all styles and picking things that work for you and throw out that which is not practical for you in a real situation.

You have a strong point. To be able to protect yourself on a street a one has to learn ground techniques such as wrestling or jiu-jitsu. We do implement mixed training as well. We get together with friends from other martial arts and exchange experiences on the mat. Good luck to you. Hope you enjoyed practicing karate.
