Saw Papi in his last series vs. Toronto. First game we got slaughtered and Papi got his share of hits and a few RBIs. How anyone can hate such an amazing adversary has no rights to be a fan. We can boo and hiss when we get beat by a player, but never hate them for their talent and we respect them for the great feats they do. Anyone who saw Papi play against their team should love the guy for what he could do and we was certainly Captain Clutch and often was at the dish and would do damage at the right time. Right now our Blue Jays need more of this kind of hitting, Justin Turner is pretty good and hey he came to us via Boston may be it's lucky.

ive been a red sox fan since the early 70's when I was a young kid. I seen some real heartbreaks in my time.but I have never...ever ...ever in my life seen anything like this guy. Captain Clutch. He is one thee most iconic hitters in the game of baseball ever. to us red sox fans, he is what the Babe was to the Yankees.

1. There has never been anything even resembling proof of him doing steroids. 2. He is the only non-Yankee in mlb history with 500+ HRs and 3+ World Series. He is the greatest DH ever to play the game(statistically) and a clear HoFer, people who say he isn't are probably just Yankee fans.

Even as someone who wasn’t from Boston, it was impossible not to stop whatever you were doing and watch this guy whenever he walked up to the plate, especially in big situations. I don’t ever remember a guy in baseball who was better in the clutch than Ortiz, at least not in my 42 yrs. He was one of those few players in sports it felt like a privilege to watch perform, even if you weren’t a fan of their team.

I disagree. His career is tarnished because of his steroid use. How many of those homeruns and extra base hits were hit under the influence of peds. Theres a reason why barry bonds isent a hall of famer. No one wants barry in because hes a cheater and also an asshole. Ortiz is still one of the greatest clutch hiters of all time and will definatley have his number retired by the red sox.

No thats not accurate I think your mistaken. Theres never been a dh thats been inducted into the hall of fame solely based on hitting. He only played a couple of years at first base and was subpar at feilding. I mean hes an insane hitter but dhs just simply dont make the hall of fame.

I'm a South Korean. I am a fan of the Dodgers, but I have been a Red Sox fan since 2003 and will continue to do so. I have not seen Clutch hitter better than David Ortiz in the last 23 years as a viewer who has watched MLB since 1994. I am sure he will be remembered forever in MLB history. I remember some time around 2012 watching a Sox game at home. Sox were down a run, bottom of the 9th, man on and Ortiz up. He lined out. I just stared at the screen, confused. Dude was so incredibly clutch that when he DIDN'T come through it was shocking.

I mean watching him was like watching a fairly tale in real life when I was a kid. I vividly remember that first ring every game, I remember my dad looking hopeless putting me too bed after we went down 3-0 and I looked at my dad and asked “but there’s still another game right we can still win?” And he just said “I don’t think so buddy” Watching them win those 4 games was like nothing else I’ve ever experienced in sports. You could not have written that series any better. He comes up when they need him most they win 3 tight games and there reward was a blowout game 7

I'm a Sox fan so I'm obviously a bit biased, but he has got to be the best clutch hitter since George Brett, sure Derek Jeter had a lot of big hits (a guy I have the utmost respect for), but never on this level; he has got to be the MJ of baseball, no club in the majors could ever say they wanted to face him with the game on the line, and the Sox were always best with him at bat. Truly a legend of the highest order, we all miss ya big guy

When it comes to clutch performances this guy is just way up there amongst the likes of michael Jordan, simply incredible. There was no doubt in anybody's mind that he was sending that ball out for the grand slam 2 years ago, I got goosebumps before he even took the swing.

Haha. I just read a comment that said the Sox have no history prior to 04. Yeah, they don't have 27 titles. Who cares. Neither does anyone else besides the Yankees. Ignorance. Any true baseball fan knows that's untrue. I mean, they won the first ever world series and were the first ever dynasty of the world series era. They paved the way for the yanks. In fact, there were many redsox championship players on the Yankees first world series team. They basically won with our team. Get real. Just because you're a Yanks fan doesn't mean every other team is garbage and has no history.
