You can create your own Tropical Vacation in your city with a little creativity.
We stayed in a wonderful hotel called the Burrard: www.theburrard.com
We went to the beach, drank iced coffees, played bocce, rode bikes to Poke lunch, then played Pitch & Putt golf, went to the Bloedel Conservatory to see the tropical plants and birds, and finished it all off with tropical drinks at the Shameful Tiki Room.

It's true that Vancouver looks pretty tropical compared with the rest of the country in winter, but other cities have little tropical spots as well. In Alberta you have Muttart in Edmonton, which I absolutely love! In Saskatchewan there is (or was) a lovely little conservatory in Saskatoon, and I'm sure there are other places across the country.

Pitch and putts are so much fun! I have not been to the Bloedel Conservatory in years and now I want to go! And last but not least the Tiki Room brought back so many memories! There used to be a Tiki bar at the Westin Bayshore (was just known as the Bayshore Hotel way back when) and it looked similar to the one you two were at. I used to love going there and getting a drink in a coconut shell! You always make me laugh! Thank you for that!

I've done this many times before, and that was without a pandemic. It's fun to be a "tourist" in your own city/state/province sometimes. Last time I did this was in October...stayed in the same state (Texas)...but it was 400 miles away. I think it was maybe 35F during those 2 days here in the Dallas area...but in Corpus Christi? 65-70F, and the Gulf of Mexico is right there....I may be dumb, but not so dumb. Haha. I'm gonna need another staycation soon.

Mike, your creativity never ceases to amaze me. A change of scenery (whether it be tropical themed or otherwise) always helps to lift the spirit, even if it's within your own city or province. Doing out of the ordinary things based on a theme for a weekend (or midweek, if you can spare the time), especially with someone close, is a great way of getting out of boring routine. I recognised most of the places you traversed in this video. The drinks venue was something new. After your tropical lunch, I think the next two meals would need to have been very modest or cancelled outright without vigorous exercise, like a full circuit of Stanley Park on those bicycles, for example. Your driving skills with a right side driving position came up well, although I was a bit concerned about the car coming in from the right and the Translink bus pulling up alongside you in your environment. You must be practising for coming downunder. I had a chuckle at the sulphur crested cockatoo that appeared twice in the conservatory scenes (Did it say "Hello cockie" ?) A little bit of Aussie there! I had a further chuckle at the temperature reading. As I type this, it's 2.35pm on a 'turn me over, mom, I'm fried this side' Sunday afternoon in sunny Melbourne and the temperature inside my home is 28 degrees Celsius (83 degrees Fahrenheit) and it's probably at least 5 - 10 degrees Celsius outside. Even the cat has fled under the house to keep cool. Although I'm now free to travel far and wide, this sort of day is not one on which to do it. Now my next task is to put the trash and garden waste bins out for the "garbo" tomorrow morning - Yes, my Monday wake up call is "Bang! Crash, thud!" as the garbage trucks pass my door around 5.30-6.00am. There should be enough shade on the sidewalk now for the bins not to smell. Thanks for keeping up the show and coming up with new ways to entertain us in these troubled times. Let's hope the various anti-COVID vaccines become proven remedies and get distributed worldwide soon so that we can all get back to normal. Stay cheerful and safe and I look forward to your next offering. Cheers from Michael.
