Thanks Jordan, I used to own the Panasonic DLux version. Nice size but files were a bit electronic for me. I probably have my old presets I can supply via MrLeica.com blog preset page if you message me but I don't think they will look as good as in this video. (can't compare FF vs small sensor lenses and look in photos).

Hi thanks. You can try using my Leica presets on Fuji RAW files in LR to see how they look (people buy to use with an iphone they tell me ha) but you need Lightroom sadly as wont work with C1.

@@Deetroiter L mount for SL. Sigma and Lumix are cheapest. I use mostly M lenses via adapter

Thanks Joe, nice! S5 performs well. Same menus as GH5 I think (I had that before). Sorry presets are for LR. Apply to all images for fast editing. Photoshop is one image at a time. Many edits on my Flickr are LR edit + photoshop to finish it.

@@joemcb1234 yes LR + preset is to batch edit 1000s of images in one go. PS is single image editing.

It will auto crop I think with TL lenses. I forget between SL and S5.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom You should test Asahi Takumar lenses. I just test shot 28 & 35 M lenses with the same in SMC Takumar and they are very hard to tell apart. Except for the Takumars being under £100 each.

I think the SL2-S is the best of the 3 but don’t quote me on that. I’d need to Google it to compare side by side. In practice better than my M240 which only goes to ISO 1600 before I get banding.

How much difference in image quality do you find between the SL and S1H when using M lenses, and what lenses?

Hi Matthew, sorry I was trying to keep the video shorter so I just wrote on screen ‘similar details’. I shot 15mm, 21mm, 28mm + and no issues for me (even slightly less vignette vs SL on a few shots!

If stopped down a little no issues for me.

Hi George, both have same great finder, S1R is like SL2 with more res. If you have modern PC and need high res to crop in or billboards get S1R, if have older PC and dont crop get SL. (SL will be a nicer camera to hold).

i agree Paul. Though I would love an S5, but hate the EVF & Micro Hdmi!

Depending on where you buy, a S5 is less expensive than a S1, not to mention the S5 is a lot smaller and lighter.

@@raksh9 Sure. The comparison however was with the Leica SL. The weight of the S1 is marginally heavier than the SL, much cheaper and if you step up to the S1r higher resolution.

If using a Lumix using Leica glass on it will help then if you want the "Matt Look" I use presets for all my images.

Thanks, focus peaking on any camera is only partially accurate. With fast lenses you need to 10x zoom to fine focus as FP is just a contrast detect system. I should have mentioned the S1 as it has a good finder too if I remember. (Better than S5)

Thanks George! I can answer for you as I've used the SL2-S (See that video). YES is it brings the benefits of the SL and a few benefits from the S5 together. I love how the SL series cameras feel. Yes Lumix lack the vavavoom of Leica (not branding, I mean enjoyment).

I think the sensor of the Sigma fp offer another great "magic" images too, with so great colors (and Sigma profiles are a blast, especially the yellow foveon). I didn't compare with the SL, but my guess is it's in the same league, and I had plenty of different brands' camera, and only this fp and my ex-M9 blow me away so far. If one can deal with the limitations of it (I personally can), it's an amazing camera, and will be a nice complement to an SL in fact.

@@obscur_yoann The sensor in the Sigma fp is the same sensor found in Panasonic S1, S1H & S5, Nikon z6 I & II and the Sony A7III & A7C. It's the Sony Exmor IMX410 sensor.

@@Fedorevsky So it's not only the sensor, but the combination of the sensor and whatever Sigma tech or tweaks, because the results are here, with amazing colors and very easy to work RAW files.

I wear glasses for driving and the SL is the best camera I’ve used of ease of focus with any lens (see my SL settings video)

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Between the SL and Lumix which one has given you most pleasing results with F glass? Does your choice change with M glass? I must add I seem to do a reasonable proportion of low light shooting.

Thanks, it’s partly limited to hear that I own but when I did the SL APO vs Voigtlander APO the M lens did well.

Do you wear glasses? Without glasses the EVF eye piece fits the eye socket so it doesn't matter how bright it is I can still see 100% clearly.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I just found it pretty poor compared to the SL2. Even the S5 was better for me. Lower res but at least I could crank up the brightness. Overall, I still think the S5 is a better camera than the SL.

Thanks Robin, the Lumix S5 is poor for "fun to use to take photos" but the images are fine. The Leica is fun to use and the EVF is more like the S1R yes. I don't have that camera so couldn't compare. I just buy cameras that I enjoy using. I use the Lumix for video.

Similar EVF so I can see how you could switch and not feel like you were missing out. The S5 has the lesser finder.

S1R has the best evf on the market.

The ability to shoot a very wide shot on the S1r is amazing. Most of the times, I don't even feel the need to edit my photos. Because S1r captures hilights&shadows so brilliantly, that strait out of camera it just looks Amazing!

He does say using a Leica makes him feel more confident, and I would guess confidence is what you need when you're planning trips to places you've never been before to photograph models you've never met and who don't speak your language. I agree that it's preposterous to feel more confident because of the name on the box you're holding in front of your face, but hey, if it works... the human brain is a silly thing sometimes, but it's the only kind of brain we've got!

@@jlwilliams My comment was intended to be tongue in cheek, but reading it again it sounds more mean than playful. Matt is a very talented portrait photographer and he uses Voigtlander and other brand lenses to produce exceptional work. He would produce quality work regardless of brand.

Tough topic! I know a few Leica shooters that photo cats a lot :) In truth models don’t care if photo is good.

For some I think yes (and if spent all money on Leica, say M11 you have to stay at home as can only afford bread and water for next 3 years :) !)

Thanks Eda! Yes I agree, I use some Nikons too (for film). I like making gear videos as I like to compare equipment but I'm a creative too when it comes to the images. I used to paint before turning to photography so I love what I do.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom 😂 Well I can say that I do not enjoy the look of Leica SL ! But I do not care about looks of a Camera, neither if it is a "Gucci"-camera, I do care about quality and compactness, a Camera should be as a good tool for the photographer.

​@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom oh totally, and a fair comparisson to a Panasonic, since the S5 is a cheaper more modern and scaled down S1 (size), --is to compare the Leica to the less accessible S1R, specifically the R, for the high rez, so then, photography spinoff to a video beast that is the Panasonic - and the S1H is another video beast, i don t know exactly how much video to photo discrepancies you ll find, but generally, i do not expect the Leica to outdo these beasts massively. i m not a photographer, but i find Leicas to be very pretentious in their pricing. And if you were to compare, those would be fair comparissons >> now of course i m not asking you to do any of those, they are expensive equipment, but if you want diversity as a photographer (i do video and own an S5), and want something to actually challenge that Leica, then that's where you go. Comparing to a lightweight S5, you ll miss out on the other perks that those others have, like a top simple LED screen. so i really appreciated your review, hope i didn t come off as rude, but it s simply not in the same category of product. compared to a Leica, you d have S1R i assume, but if you put it next to the S1H, then that camera is much more of a camera. much more of a capable multi-tasker. the stabe on that is the best on the market. the absolute best. and it 's full frame. the codecs as well. and the viewfinder is higher res, plus the top screen AAAAAAAAAND it s a video-centered camera. now i'm not too familiar with the R (ok so lemme refresh this >> ) S5 modern scaled down lightweight, with a few added video features like live-crop in or live pan S1 Panasonic mid range, bulkier heavier body, that is somewhat outdone by the S5, at least for video users. the S1H however is another animal. they re both heavier and bulkier and... just bigger as bodies than the S5, which is fairly compact for what it offers, but not a light camera by any stretch of the imagination. the S1H is a freggin brick. they managed to make the S1H a tad bulkier than the S1, and is still not outdonee by the S5, since it does 6k inside. only thing modern cameras like the Sony A7Siii or FX3 *same camera, si that they now do 4k 120p, which is radical, but to my knowledge, those still don t do any 6k or 8k in-camera. and the S5 can do 5.9k as well in hdmi-out, but... these are the ravings of a videographer at this point. cheers bro. what you have is always the best. it's just real good to know what to use it for. you might have gold in your hands and not even know it.
