I'll keep this short. Before May of this year, pre-codes weren't something I was overly passionate about. I didn't hate them- I just had never really explored this pocket of film history to its fullest extent. Almost by accident (I was on a Barbara Stanwyck binge), I ended up watching several pre-codes in a short period of time and an overwhelming love was born. If you've never explored this period of film history- I highly recommend it. Go visit the sensational "pre-code.com", read up on the essential films and actors/actresses of the period and dive in head first! They're fun, salacious, daring and unforgettable. You won't regret it.

Very beautiful video, I love that there is someone who is playing with the old movies, they are so much better than what we have now.

Your edit breathed new life into these old movie clips. The acting, the cinematography... when taken out and pieced together to tell another story, shine in new light. It's like watching the trailer of a new film with these wonderful actors and actresses from the bygone days (an impossible ensemble even then!). The nostalgic nuances are truly mesmerising, and very addictive.

A wonderful tribute Laura, this is fantastic.Thank you for all the wonderful William Powell eye candy in it. So glad to see, Myrna Loy in this too. Her role in Thirteen Women is a great add to this, she was very dark in that role.

I am mesmerized. The intensity of the song and the visual narrative altogether - smouldering with undertones of desire, violence and passion - is so unexpected, yet very powerful and really accentuates each and every subtle movement and action so that it seems to resonate much more deeply. I love how you always manage to do that so effortlessly in all of your videos and especially with facial expressions in this one - such is the strange allure of this song that it feels like there's so much more weight behind a sultry gaze (0:03) or a menacing stare (1:26) - it really heightens the emotion. Each clip is so well placed and transitions seamlessly into the next, especially as each chorus begins and ends - I like the synchronicity of the onscreen action and the beats of the music (1:19-1:20, 3:16-3:18, 3:31-3:33). Anyway I feel like I'm rambling too much and losing any semblance of coherent thought, but I really wanted to convey just how much I loved this! :) I'm not hugely familiar with pre-code movies, but I will definitely be checking out a few from your list!

I was absolutely floored when you posted something after a really long time, and what a treat it was! I never really expected much from this video besides the obvious greatness since it was done by you, but WOW this was incredibly well done, and I needed to rewatch this several times just to grasp words adequate enough to publicly post ♥️ I obviously don't comment enough on your videos, but I've watched them all, and I wish I had half the talent you have 💖 great work!

What happened to the "Classic Hollywood" video with The Verve's Bitter Sweet Symphony? I used to watch that religiously. If I may be so bold, I would love a video that incorporates some footage of Teresa Wright. She is a criminally underrated actress in my opinion. I also have a song suggestion for a future video: The Head and the Heart - City of Angels. Every time I listen to it, I ponder which classic Hollywood scenes your editing prowess would conjure up to accompany it.

Again Laura, you knocked it out of the park! I just love your ability to take songs that at first glance wouldn’t go together with the films and make them flow so beautifully together that I find it hard to hear one without thinking of the other. Thank you again for all the work you put into it!

This is exactly the kind of vibe I associate with the birth of cinema and all the legends with it. Being able to really express artistically precode, and create a story they wanted told, we ended up getting an era of ethereal peculiarity in film. The human psyche on full display, in every facet. Which in turn, made for a dark and wild universe. For your video, it had haunting visuals and song choice with Hozier that captured this world, in my opinion. Editing done beautifully in time with audio and every frame had depth, and a purpose. I loved it 👏

I needed to rewatch this a few times before I could comment on it-- wow. I am not madly familiar with pre-code myself (or rather, I never really processed the context of some of the pre-codes I've watched, I just liked them) but this makes me eager to explore them more and more. What an edit! I have to admit I don't really like this song, and it's so unusual it must have been a nightmare to get the clips to flow but you did it so well. And it is very mood appropriate. I'm just awestruck by how beautiful and intense these films are, as much as I love later decades there's something so mystical and art-like about the early 30s style and cinematography. Thank you for showcasing it so beautifully
