Hey Paul, if you could put that brass color on your entire slide, that would look BAD ASS! I wonder if it would stay?

I had a similar issue with my Mossberg MC1sc. Because I carried it in a belly band during the summer, the slide stop button started to rust. I cleaned it with some CLP and a toothbrush...just have to be careful to make sure that I'm wiping it down with oil more often.

Grandpa showed me 3in1 oil and a copper penny. Copper penny is 1982 and prior. Works every time. Wont scratch either.

Please explain how to??
@ruinerfixxxer
@ruinerfixxxer 3 жыл бұрын
@@jeffgrey663 this is for surface rust. Just put the oil on the affected area and use the penny to lightly work the rust off. Dont use a lot of force. If you have something other than surface rust and there's pitting involved, take it to a gunsmith. They can get the deep rust out.

What about pulling the backplate and firing pin out before soaking it in soda so the firing pin chamber gets cleaned out when you finish soaking? The process could leave soda gunk around the firing pin block being that the Glock is striker fired and get into the spring or striker sleave! Just thought I'd put this out there as my OCD keeps my tools looking new!

Metals require a passivation layer on the surface to keep from being oxidized.. Using steel wool, which is iron/carbon base can actually transfer material to the slide and rust over time. The rust on the holster is just being transferred from the slide, but does not necessarily cause more rusting on the slide. Rust is the conversion of the steel to iron oxide. which really means a slow erosion of the metal. Once the rust is removed, a clean metal surface should be re-passivated to prevent further oxidation, and there are products out there. As you suggested, cleaning on a regular basis regardless whether the weapon is put to use, could or should be a daily ritual given your circumstances.

Question, will vinegar damage the coating? If not, it is very good at completely stripping rust off of steel.

I use crumpled aluminum foil. Only finish that make affect is bluing. If it takes the bluing off I just use a bluing pen to restore the finish.

The old tennifer was too good so they changed to a substandard finish that is cheaper and more prone to wear and corosion. The faster a firearm will wear out, the faster they sell a new one. Modern economy. The legendarny Glock durability is a thing of the past.

if the slide is stainless why is it rusting ? or is it just transfer rust?
@jtinnac1895

Is it stainless? I'm not 100% sure, but thought Glock was just using a silvery finish on their standard slide. Stainless will rust, though. It just stains LESS.

if you drive in areas with a lot of diesel traffic, you get an oily film on the windshield. this cleans that crud off too, followed by a water rinse. an old friend of mine in the industry showed me to use copper wool for this rust removal on blued surfaces.
