This film explores the needs of and opportunities for "exceptional children," those with developmental delays or physical challenges. It was produced as a recruitment tool to encourage high school and college students to consider working in special education as a career.

Nowadays it's the law that children with special needs must be accomodated. Doesn't always happen though

This video is an excellent demonstration on why you should never ever allow your special child into education (public or private) away from you. No matter how much they tell you the kid will ''benefit'' from such activities, no matter how much some workers are interested, some/many of them will lack the vocation to do the job. In this motion picture, the guy just wanted to get laid with the french class girl. To the hell with the kid. Many, many other atendants will only work for the cash or to contribute to the alarming percentage of predators in schools. I thank the heavens my mother never let me into these places. Never ever let your kids away from you. Special needs children need your affection more than these institutions. Their education must be provided near your home, under your supervision, with your direct contact with the professionals who will take care of them.

You have a sad and outdated take on the care and welfare of special needs children. The point of this film is to think ahead to a time when family members may not be able to care for them anymore. I understand the aversion to institutionalized settings, but the point of this film was never, "You should institutionalize your child." It's promoting the concept of inclusion--a remarkably contemporary concept for 1969--by allowing special needs children to participate in activities like camp... camps where they get to do activities with non special needs children. This helps their socialization beyond immediate family members and increases their capacity for self-care, which is an absolutely essential skill as they become young adults and older. It also benefits non-special needs children by giving them a better understanding of how to interact with special needs kids... hopefully much more successfully than the rather clueless male teen in this film.

You’ve got some real issues. Maybe you should work them out.

@@smorris281 I don't have issues. Families that place kids in institutions have. They make things easier for themselves, while the kid suffer who knows what at the hands of incompetent insensitive ''health workers'' or infiltrated predators.
