Lyrics
When we were young the world seemed so old
Careless and cold
We did what we were told in our lives
When we were young
Had the world by the tail
Good would prevail
Starships set sail
And none of us would fail in this life
Not when you're young
We were drawn to whoever
Could keep us together
And bound by the heavens above
And we tried to survive
Travelling at the speed of love
Whoa, when we were young
When we adored the fabulous
Whoa, when we were young
We were the foolish fearless
Never knowing the cost of what we paid
Letting someone else be strong
Whoa, when we were young
In the moment of grace
A long leap of faith
There's still more glory stored away
It's my life
I'm here with the lovers
And we burn the bridges we're crossing over
Just to see the firelight
And the innocent are getting over
Being old tonight
Whoa, when we were young
When everything was what it seemed
Whoa, when we were young
And every day was how we dreamed
Never knowing the cost of what we paid
Letting someone else be strong
Whoa, when we were young
And when you'll look at yourself tonight
Are you someone you recognize?
You can take back what you've given away
But it must be the last time
Whoa, when we were young
Whoa, when we were young
When we were young
Whoa, when we were young
When we adored the fabulous
Whoa, when we were young
We were the foolish fearless
Whoa, when we were young
We didn't know it wouldn't last
Whoa, when we were young

I always get a tear drop in my eye when they say "we didn't know it wouldn't last" because it reminds me of my childhood, and how badly i want it back....Back then, we really didn't know that those days won't last forever

I find myself marking events that happen along the way thru life and realize that where I was as a teenager and being very close to my grandparents, now the situation has flipped around and I am that grandparent. I miss those times of youth and the people I shared them with. Now they are all gone and I am thankful I have kids and grandkids to share with but the world we grew up in was vastly different than it is now. I would like to return to those days. When you are busy pouring yourself into a career you don't realize just how fast those years are flying by. Alas they are but memories now.

As always, Take That is a quality music: amazing melodies and lyrics. There is also a unique gentleness that they share in each and every song. The age does not matter if you can share inside energy with others. And the energey is 5 times stronger when you are together.

This just proves that you don't need bright lights and heavy bass and rapping to make good music. Glam isn't what music is about. This is. A song that can touch so many people, and one of many by Take That. Thank you, Take That, for keeping music alive.

Take That will only ever feel right to me as a five piece. Then again that's probably because TT5 remind me of my childhood so much. There's a lot of nostalgia involved. Sometimes I can't believe it's been over 20 years.

Life is a brathing! When you are 25 years old is the perfect moment of life, until 40. Later you step up and people start to seeing you as a mature man, almost old. This song talks about the impresive difference that you start to catch how the rest of the people looks on you. And you notice that, many things have changed on your body, now you can't do all that you used to do, the way for enjoying is not the same now. (Crist / Stgo. Chile, SouthAmerica). We love you, UKnean people. XD

Take That is amazing.. as well as individually. They have worked VERY HARD & because of that, have security for themselves& their families. They are very young...not teenagers, but still very young. Whatever they need to do individually is grand...they are artists, hopefully they ALL will be kind to eachother with no regrets. Life is not kind to anyone.

Was never a fan of Take That, but past 10years or so they can do no wrong. Even as a three piece they nail every song. Have to say though, Robbie is only at his best when working with Take That. These are the songs that are perfect. They bring out the best in each other. Barlow is a melodic genius!

Take That is fabulous. But Robbie is a fantastic entertainer in his own right. He writes songs that Take That wouldn't write. Just listen to Robbie's B-sides or his albums - Under The Radar volumes 1 and 2. Don't underestimate Mark as a songwriter either. His solo song are quite different from Take That's usual.

Just a brilliant song. I lovely close to the album and the tour as well. Why do those 21 people that disliked the video have to dislike it? It just shows that they have nothing better to do than dislike every video of Take That. It just shows what a sad and horrible person they are. I wish people who don't like Take That just kept their thought's to themselves so that Take That fans can enjoy them in peace.

Divina cancion...!! Gran mensaje..!! I love Take That...!!

indeed. I do like their new song, but from just hearing that, they haven't done it. im hopeful. im sure I will still love it none the less. look at 'said it all'. what an jewel they had in that song. totally unexpected. Then again, much of the time, take that's best music is never released as singles. In my opinion, not much can top progress(ed). Its in my top 5 of best double albums ever. Elton never outdid yellow brick road, but look at all the great things that did come after. Doesn't always have to be the best. I am always amazed by what these talented guys come up with. I wish all 5 of them great happiness, for they have brought that to me many times throughout my life.

The video, the song, the voices, the lyrics... The story. It all makes me cry. The first is the lyrics. First I didn't want TT back again, but since I bought and watched the Progress Live DVD I just want them Back For Good and I want to get stuck in time forever... I don't want to lose this. It's sad that they didn't sing it live on tour. Second, Robbie is my favourite, but that's not the why I say: he's perfect in this song, because they kind of gave him the "main role". His voice here is just so pure, touching, heart-warming, wonderful, perfect. It makes me cry. And he is also perfect in the video. And after crying watching this I'm glad of reading all the comentaries of love by other people. I love you Robbie. #TakeThatBackForGoodIn2015 #WhenWeWereYoung

I sing this all the time and my friends are getting sick of it. So now I sing it even more, because it is a great song and it annoys them. Love U! ♥♥♥♥

this song and video shows how strong that that have become and how mature they have become as a five piece from back when they were only kids and starting into a big british band :D :D they have come such a long way, and i love them for that xx

Thing is--- none of them actually knew at the time, that it would be their last video as a 5-piece. It just happened. They group together and take a bow as 5 in the end, one last time.

I don't know what it is about this song, but it is just so amazing. I mean, I love Take That as a whole, but the seriousness, nostalgia factor of this song is amazing. If one song can bring back so many wonderful memories, you know you've hit the musical jackpot, congrats guys. :)

It about being young and the dreams you have and then reflecting on those dreams when you get older
