DevSkeeWorldWide Hell ya brotha. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, & Marvin Gaye kinda guy, but when I found jazz, I fell in love. It just touches a part of your soul that no other art form can reach.

Justin’s playing on this piece is truly inspired. He loses his right stick and amazingly catches it all in one motion at 5:07. I had to slow the video down to see it! Wherever his inspiration was coming from that set wasn’t going to let anything interrupt that flow!

Y'all hear Orrin quote Tim Warfield's "Titi Boom" starting at the 8:54 mark? Originally from the A Cool Blue release. They also do some rhythm hits from his own composition "Dorm Life".

If anyone is bored by this performance, I'd suggest they go back to sleep! As far as "stepping on Coltrane's footprints", they're doing no such thing. This is no attempt at replication. They're doing what good jazz musicians have done.for decades. They're taking a familiar theme and putting their own imprint on it!

Rock Concert: Thousands of fans listening to a few notes. Jazz Concert: A few fans listening to thousands of notes.
@dominicvance36672 жыл бұрын
Whether you know it or not, it’s comments like yours that contribute to “jazz”’s undeserved pariah status in today’s musical climate. Instead of focusing on the many notes themselves, try listening for shapes, arcs, motifs, phrases, energy
@jaxonellis29952 жыл бұрын
@@dominicvance3667 Really???You took that literally??? That’s like saying it’s peoples comments that lead to the majority of the population eating poorly and being overweight instead of eating healthy and being in great shape. The masses simply chose that which is not as healthy or elevating. My comments can’t make that happen.
@dominicvance36672 жыл бұрын
@@jaxonellis2995 publicly disseminated opinions directly influence the opinions of others - ESPECIALLY when discussing art forms, which are subjective. I don’t know if you genuinely care about this music or not, but if you do, please exercise caution when making jokes/remarks such as these, as they affect the ability of these artists to attract an audience - and thus, to make a living. Small words can have big consequences.
@jaxonellis29952 жыл бұрын
@@dominicvance3667 Without question I care about music. I'm not the reason people don't listen to jazz or good music is not popular. The music industry itself is to blame. Record stores closed along with Clear Channel buying all the independent radio stations. Both of them now push only certain music and styles. During covid David Sanborn was doing sessions in his home studio. I wrote and asked if the music would be available. He said no. The new generation of musicians is allowing access to their music unlike generations of the past. I am a huge music buyer and want to support the artists so they make more. But I am frustrated beyond belief when I cannot buy music from an artist because it is not available in the U.S. The problem is access, not opinions.
