In Luke 9:23, Jesus tells the crowd to "take up their cross daily."
But the word "daily" is not found in many reputable manuscripts. Also, it is not found in the parallel teachings of Jesus that we see in Matthew 16:24 and Mark 8:34.
So do we need to kill our "selves" spiritually every day? This was Cynthia's question when she wrote in to our ministry.
In this short video clip, I address Cynthia's question and discuss what it means that we can now "count ourselves alive to God" instead of trying to die every day.

Man what a push back on this from my pastor. He feels we are to take up a cross daily and die to self. I explained Romans 6:6 and Galatians 2:20. Unfortunatley it is so engrained in them that they fight it ....

When you are saved. You don't have to die to self any more. When Jesus died on the cross he said it is finished. You are completely saved. You did not reject Jesus. You can not loose your Salvation. Yes live a righteous life and serve the Lord. But you don't need to be a fanatic about it. God does give you freedom to live and you don't have to worry if you are all ways doing the right thing . that is what Andrew is saying.

I believe dying daily is our becoming more into the image of the Father, growing from a child under governors + tutors into the Son, the Heir, a Living epistle, to be perfect(mature) in Father God, Christ(anointed) in me, my guide, cleanser, issueing grace daily, growing in faith like the parable of the mustard seed.

Amen brother. When we trust Jesus as our savior, He imputes His perfect righteousness to us, and will no more impute sin to our account. Romans 4:6-8 What a trade. He took all our sin and gave us His righteousness. And it is free. John 5:24 We have passed from death unto life. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that BELIEVE on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Jesus paid our bride price. He paid the price we could not pay, We had a sin debt that condemned us. But, now we have a savior in whom we can never be condemned again. John 3:18

I agree but I disagree. We must die to our ways and become one with Gods ways. I like you Andrew Farley but I’m not so sure about this teaching.

Aimee M. I believe that too. We grow from a child, under governors + tutors to become heirs, Sons', having the mind of Christ, He teaches us directly thru Spirit, revelation of His word in us, putting off the old man + putting on the new man, renewed in Christ daily, going deeper into Father God.

It's past tense. It's already happened. When did Jesus die on the cross over 2000 years ago well when did you down the cross over 2000 years ago and that's what he's talkin about its past tense it already happened at the moment of Salvation And you receive the Holy Spirit that's why he called the Galatians 2:20 and Romans 6:6 you just have to believe it by what principle. faith his death is my death is burial his my burial is resurrection is my resurrection when CHRIST ascended we descended and are now resting in CHRIST finished work of the cross so keep looking down from your position in CHRIST alone

The unregenerate individual has but one nature, the old man. The regenerate individual has two natures, the old man and the new man. The old man (even though it has been crucified with Christ) remains with us as long as we are in these bodies of flesh and blood. Therefore the need to "know" (Rom 6:6) and to "reckon" (Rom 6:11) are beneficial to our walking after the Spirit. When we are conscience of this then we have put on the new man. On the flip side, there are times when we may fall into temptation or have a fit of carnality, so to say, and when this happens it means that we've allowed the old man to resurface. Walking in or after the Spirit is not something that is automatic for the believer. Many believers walk after the flesh because they fail to recognize the need to die daily or to know and reckon that their old man was crucified. This is not a justification (heaven or hell) issue, but it is a sanctification issue which will be addressed at the JSOC.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.(2 Cor. 5: 17 KJV) I don't know what version you're reading from but, rest assure, your old nature is still with you. Every believer, according to Gal. 2: 20, has been crucified with Christ. This is a FACT. When a person believes the Gospel it means their spirit is quickened (made alive) which allows the Holy Spirit to abide within. At the same time their soul (old man) is crucified with Christ. But just because the old man died, doesn't mean the old man stays dead. The old man will resurrect himself every chance he gets. The very moment we get in the flesh we fail to walk in the Spirit. This happens when we fail to deny self and take up our cross, Matt. 16: 24-25.

@@JBM101 . . Every individual, whether saved or lost, has a spirit, a soul, and a body, according to (1 Thes 5:23). The spirit (conscience, intuition, communion) and soul (mind, will, emotions) of a lost person are united together and separate from the body, because the spirit is dead to the things of God. What needs to take place in order for the person to be saved is for the spirit to be quickened (made alive), and the only way for this to happen is for that person to "hear" and "believe" the Gospel of grace found in (1 Cor. 15:3-4). And when the gospel is believed (Eph. 2:8), (Acts 16:31), the Word of God, Who is Jesus Christ, separates the believers spirit from their soul (Heb. 4:12), so that the Holy Spirit can come and abide therein, (1 Cor. 3:16), (1 Cor. 6:19), and (Rom. 8:16), thus making this person a new creature in Christ, (2 Cor. 5:17). Now this new believer has TWO NATURES. They have their (new man) their new spirit nature and they still have their (old man) their soul nature. This old man, new man, can be seen in (Eph. 4:22-24) and (Col. 3:9-10). God bless!

I’m still banging my head on the wall about Luke 9:23. “Daily “ is in the vast majority of translations. Is that word not supposed to be there? Thank you for your videos.

That word “daily” got me too. Romans 6 adds helpful clarity here. In light of the cross and resurrection, the ‘daily’ dying is not a killing away of the new self. We don’t get up in the morning and try to die, but we daily (moment by moment) recognize that we already died. We’re dead to those thoughts and feelings that the world, the flesh, or enemy throw our way. We get to (daily) consider ourselves as dead to sin and ALIVE to God in Christ Jesus.

Good Evening, Mozhghan! From my understanding, Jesus is saying that people should know that the time is close to His coming when the tribulation occurs. After talking about the tribulation, He says that all will see Him, the trumpet will blow and the angels will gather all believers from every corner of the earth. When He talks about Heaven and Earth passing away but His Words not, I believe that He is saying that, since He existed before heaven and earth, His Words will far surpass their existence. It's a way of saying that you can trust He is telling the truth because His Words are eternal and will last longer than anything else. He then says that no man or angel will know the day or the hour of His coming, but only the Father. We can know the time of His return is close based on His description of the tribulation, but that is all we can really know. Hope this was helpful! God Bless you!

Take up your cross means to be persecution will come. Expect world to hate you. Are you greater than your master? No if they perscute me they will perscute you. The world loves it's own. This means to remove the baggage, this is anything idol in your life. To die to your wordy lusts. He who is first will be last. He who is last will be first Many want to keep their riches as replacement for trusting in the Lord. This is why Jesus said it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. It is easier for a camel to go thru eye of the needle than for a Rich man to enter. The eye of the needle was a passage way that camels had to pass thru but their bags hanging over their backs would not fit. The parable of the seed sown on thorns and thistles that choked the word is a prime example of a person who hears the word. Few get to the good soil and produce fruit for Jesus. Hard and narrow is the path that leads to life and few find it. Many tried to enter but cannot . This requires you to die to self. Walk humble as the proud will be brought low. Some it may cost their families. Others their life! Are you willing to take up the cross that our master took up? He saves you from your sins but also tells those who follow Jesus . .are you going to count the cost? Consider a master builder Does he not plan and make sure he has enough resources to finish the building before he breaks the ground? Else he would look foolish if he lays the foundation and puts up a wall and stops.

You forgot the part that says for man this is impossible but for God all things are possible. ✌🏼 Are you or I able to “die” somehow to sin on our own? What does this look like for you may I ask? Because for me God is the one working and moving. My testimony is evidence. More so than any behavioral changes is the fact that my love for Jesus grows deeper as the days go by. I’ve come to understand and trust that He doesn’t stop revealing things to me and gently guiding me to greater more peaceful pastures just because I stop doing my church things or “dying to self daily” whatever that means. As I walk through life, stumbling over an idol I didn’t realize was an idol, engaging in ones I know are, allowing sin to happen at times but mostly just trying desperately to be better, more loved, more blessed, more faithful.... in all these things God does not abandon me or turn his face from me. He’s always there loving me regardless and HE is the one who brings me through into greater wisdom and fuller dependency on Him. It’s hard to go toe to toe with peoples testimonies in Christ. When you have the blessed assurance it’s a peace surpassing all understanding. To GOD be the glory.

How does a person listen to this clear teaching yet not understand what he’s saying? He explained context but it’s still incorrect to you?
