When I purchase vehicles, I take my father and/or grandfather with me. They are both mechanics and have helped me to make great purchases from reputable companies from where to get my oil changed to where I can get good priced tires. This has taught me a lot and saved me from bad purchases.

Hello from back in the day, I've been a licensed journeyman automotive mechanic since 1983, I inspected thousands of vehicles for people, some before they purchased it, but most of them right after they bought it. People have to ask this question first: Why is it being sold? The second question would be to the seller: Would you mind if I had this vehicle inspected? An honest seller should have no problem with this. Third: Keep in mind this is NOT a new vehicle, its likely to have a certain amount of wear and tear. Last thing, you will see lots of used Volkswagens, BMWs, and Mercedes for low prices, it may be very tempting to buy these, but don't be surprised when various warning lights come on in the dash, and when you get the trouble codes scanned, you learn that it is going to cost you thousands of dollars to start replacing sensors etc.

Car dealers definitely try to take advantage of women . My father , being a mechanic, I always take him along last minute and it ALWAYS throws them off . And my dad always ends up noticing something off & they usually change the price or offer to fix things etc .

Yes car dealers do take advantage of women. I had an experience that they did! They didn't listen to me for over a year. Finally I asked an attorney who I knew to write me a letter. Boom things changed instantly and I got the problem taken care of!!!! Oh they were so sorry. Ha!

Handy tip if you have this window issue. Buy a door wedge with a thin edge. Hold window up while placing thin end between base of window and car door. I keep door wedges in my glove box to give to people I see with this window issue.

Years ago, I used to put on a "ladies car clinic" in the evening at the shop I used to work at, I was an employee not an owner. I did this own my own time and was not paid for it, my goal was NOT to make mechanics out of the ladies but to make them smarter if they had to take their car to a shop. I felt like a psychiatrist as well as a mechanic, my feeling was that these women needed to be more independent and not play the " I'm a helpless woman " card I have to say that the auto repair has had a bad reputation for a lot of years, the flat rate system was adopted to make labor charges more fair, But I worked with so many "mechanics" who were not dishonest, but completely incompetent , no clue as how to diagnose problems. So the customer ended up paying for a lot of unnecessary parts and labor.

I think what she was getting at was that defendant says car passed inspection,( some states require annual safety inspection) but her mechanic said there was no way that the car should have passed inspection with the repairs (other than window) needed. Note people you have car inspected before you buy it, don’t trust seller’s word and if they refuse to let you take it somewhere to get it looked over , then walk away.

This plaintiff's situation is a MIRROR image of mines! I bought a vehicle from a small dealer that could not pass enmisions, window was not working. Claimed they ordered parts but that was a lie...they never did! I went a YEAR driving around with a "used car dealer " tag. I was way too patient to give them a whole year. Tons of text sent and I still was not successful. I decided to just purchase a car elsewhere and count my loss. These small used car dealers are dirty and will never get my money again!

The golden rule, always take a used car on a test drive take to a mechanic to check the used car out. Never pay anything till you have it checked it out beforehand. As is sale.
