I would also recommend making the sky either the top third or the 2/3s of the page. It will be more interesting than just half sky and half land or sea. Lovely tutorial.

Using cooler colours in the distance and warmer colours up close and that will also help with adding depth, cool colours recede, warmer ones advance and, in combo with using a 2thirds/1third horizon point, will also give an interesting perspective.

You are doing lovely work. As a retired watercolor teacher and artist, I must give you the benefit of my many years of experience and education. Even the most excellently painted work will be a failed piece if the composition is wrong. It's the only rule in painting art that cannot be broken. Remember....Never, never, never lay your horizon in the center of the paper or canvas. There are only a few exceptions where artists have gotten away with it and it was all about the balance of 3 main colors from one side to the other that covers the vanishing point. Also , it's important to have a main focal point of interest within the work and should never be bulls eyed nor going off to the edge of the page. Blessings.

Agreed! I thought she'd move the horizon in the 2nd example

E - I love your videos. They are so helpful to me. I also love it that you don’t edit out “mistakes” or when you misspeak. It reminds me to let go of the idea of perfectionism. Thank you for your work

Words yes. It is when you are painting the creative part of your brain takes over and is dominant. Your speech part of your brain is no longer dominant and speech is hard. I took a water color class and my teacher had the same problem. Well we all do. You see many artist who do the painting, then they do an edit where they record the vocal. This was so helpful. Thank you.

Photography also uses "leading lines" which is when there are lines (like railing) leading or pointing to the the subject or a specific part of the picture, which is something you also did in the final painting. I tried painting a landscape recently because it seems so easy, but it was definitely sad and boring and looked like I painted it in kindergarten. 🤷‍♀️ This was helpful and makes me want to try again!

Hullo Emma, Nicely done! I have taught beginners and this is an excellent lesson on basic landscape painting. I have had the same speaking and working troubles and I have no idea how some people get their videos done. Now I know some use voice over long after the work is finished and following a script is much easier to keep your thoughts organized and presented without loss of ideas! I thought you did a lovely job, well done
