As a lover of Comporta on Portugal's west coast, we have often wondered about the ferry that crosses the Sado Estuary over to Setubal. This week, whilst chilling out for a few days, we invited our friend to fly over to Libson and come have a long weekend with us. That gave us a great opportunity to try out the ferry.
With our Pilote 740c and it's low slung rear end, we often have problems with these types of local ferries. To be honest we have challenges with some of the international larger ferries too. So in pursuit of some information about whether you can take a motorhome safely on the ferry without scrapping, I hit the keyboard and consulted our friend Google. Strangely nothing significant came up that reassured me. So we decided to give it a go and do a video on this topic for others, who might be asking the same question.
We wanted an alternative to taking the road route to Lisbon airport, which is 120km and would take us in the motorhome, at least 90 minutes. The ferry certainly saves some time and some money if you time your crossing right. And sure you still have to travel from Setubal to Libson, although it certainly feels like it shortens the journey. Having done it twice now, we can definitely verify this. More importantly, it save our carbon footprint, which has to be a good thing.
