#gravelracing
We headed out to Tenterfield for the inaugural Gravel n Granite event. We did the 65km distance, there were also 28km and 102km options.
We don't have gravel bikes so we took our mountain bikes. This is Tim's race.

Great to watch and that is all it will be for this old bloke, I felt your pain, and may all the E Bikes get flat batteries, this 70 + still pedals without help 😁

Good on you Jim. I don’t think ebikes are allowed in this race, although st other races I’ve passed a few ebikes with dead batteries.

Thanks for filming Tim. I was a ways behind you on the ride and there probably less than 1 in 5 riders still on their bikes through those large pinches when I came through. Very cool to have your vid to show people who are curious. Looking forward to next year.

Thanks Matt. They were some tough little pinches! It really was a great event.

I really enjoyed that. Sorry you had to do all the work, Tim. LOL As a cyclist, I had no trouble seeing the incline on those uphill sections, so I guess your Go-Pro was recording them just fine. Congratulations to you and Amanda. Good job!!!

Most of it is really fun - and the hard bits make the fast downhills worthwhile!

Your gravel roads are smoother than our asphalt roads in Oklahoma. Okies would have taken a road bike on this course, ha.

Haha. I only took a mountain bike because I didn’t have a gravel bike at the time.

Great video, great information about the race. I was looking at doing it next year and was thinking of using my anthem as well, might go a skinnier xc tyre after seeing you do it with bigger ones. 👍🏼

You are a tough fighter mate, happy to see you got around those e-bikes at the end. Fantastic route but I think your tires are overkill for this kind of surface. Some of those hills are leg killer.

Do they really lump the E-Cheaters (lol) in with the rest, that doesn't sit right with me. PS I'd prefer to have an e-bike if i were to do such a run though! OH and i own a circa 2006 Giant Elwood Hybrid which i just put Continental gravel tyres on, an oldie but i love my bike. Liked your vids of Milton floods, cheers!

I'm doing my first gravel race (77km) this weekend (Burnt Bridge Fondo, Vancouver Island, Canada). I don't have a gravel bike. This video came up and would you know it... we have the exact same Giant Anthem! However, I do still have my lockout set up. My race is 100% gravel. No paved sections. I'm hoping that there is a good turnout of MTBs. Tire pression is my biggest unknown. On trails I'll run about 26 psi, but thinking of running 35 psi for the gravel. How was 40 psi in your race? I like the idea of running a little less pressure for the downhills to have better traction in the lose gravel. I'm running the Maxxis Icon tires on front and back, so this is a light fast XC tire, which should be good for the gravel.

Sorry mate. We’ve only just seen this comment. We’ve been out bush for a couple of days. You may have already done the race? If so how was it? How was the tyre pressure? Tyre pressure is also determined by weight. 35 should’ve been good. A really good tyre would be the Maxxis Rambler in a 40mm width. You could probably run them at about 40psi. Hope it went well
@jamesainsworth5711
@jamesainsworth5711 Жыл бұрын
@@TriFitwithTimandAmanda No worries. The race went well. 4th overall. I kept with the 35 psi and it seemed to work well. I used my lockout for my shocks a lot through the race. Locked out on climbs and smoother gravel roads, and back on when the roads got a bit more gnarly. It was fun seeing where the different types of bikes had their advantages. With the heavier MTB, the longer climbs were the hardest part of the race for me, but I managed to always get back on once the road surface turned back in my favor. As I plan on doing just a few gravel races a year, I think I'm going to stick to using the Giant Anthem MTB. The only thing I might consider changing is my front chain ring and get one with just a couple more teeth.
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda Жыл бұрын
Well done on your race. If you have a chain ring you can change out, and narrower tyres I reckon it’ll be perfect. I actually converted my road bike to a gravel bike, which is an option. You’ll find the videos on our channel

16:48 I don't get it. Why are the people on e-bikes allowed to use power-assist? That seems like a really unfair advantage. Or am I missing something...?
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda 2 жыл бұрын
We didn’t compete against each other. We started at the same time and did the same course but there were separate ebike categories. They only had an advantage until their battery died and that happened to a few of them!
