Rustic Rooster

2 жыл бұрын

Over a decade ago my dad and brother bought me this Ridgid planer.. it was planned to be put to use fairly quick but ended up sitting in a shed for quite some time.. I figure out what was wrong and clean it up!

Put all your rusted parts in Evapo-rust over night. Break loose your stuck parts with PB Blaster penetrating oil.

My Ridgid planer looks just like yours but I'm not sure it's the exact model. can't find any model number. How did you figure out what model you have?

Just so anybody cares, there's a chain drive thats driven by the hand crank thickness adjuster, tgat consists of one chain, and four *_PLASTIC_* ( *you read that right* ) sprokets that may break, shatter/crack at any time, rendering this thick ness planer useful for only one size cuts only. Don't forget to search for metal replacement sprockets if you can to keep you planet planing!

@@rusticrooster5518 it's always nice to have that option, especially in a pinch

Plastic gears suck. I just rebuilt my Ridgid TP1300 & the elevation hand crank has a metal worm gear on each side. No plastic gears. The only chains are the 2 chains that power the rollers off the head. The head is powered by a small serpentine belt.

Metal gears seem like a solid choice for sure.. Of course, manufacturers are looking at cost more than longevity. Especially at these price points unfortunately.

@@rusticrooster5518 your planer does not have sprocket gears that make your head elevate. The elevation is controlled by the the metal worm drives on either side enclosed in those 2 rectangular sections by the 2 threaded rods. You can run your head down to rest on some wood, undo those little rectangular sections, remove the worm drives(left threaded on left side) & the entire head can be removed. This would facilitate easy cleaning of the 4 rusty guide rods. Since the head is removed, you can remove the rollers( I clean with simple green & water), chains & gear box(add grease) easily. P.S. Nothing is ever easy.
