You know everyone give Braeburn a hard time about falling asleep, but it goes from day to night and he has a broken leg. What if he is on pain meds, have you been on pain meds, it is kinda hard to stay awake and he made it to night time, the CMC should have been in bed, he did keep the girls safe till bed time. It's not his fault they sneak out after dark and he even wakes up to go tell Aj. I don't think less of Braeburn for falling asleep.

+Steph N I agree with everything you said, but let's face it. this is still another example of the show not portraying another male character in a positive light, or being developed well, which is what I think Firebrand was referring to.

+Steph N I just hat the kind of 'joke' they where giving "No worries! I can do this." "*can't do it* like, it's with all the reasons wrong they did it like that that scene is so short the kids won't notice the reasons like the time and broken leg I don't blame Braeburn for this scene

+Steph N I'll give you that he was injured, and that does limit his abilities to a degree. At the same time, though, he took no precautions to make sure the CMCs stayed put if he DID fall asleep. If a parent falls asleep after a grueling day, but forgets to put the child locks on the bleach cabinet first, and the child breaks in and gets sick, saying "but I was tired" isn't going to fly as an excuse with anyone. Braeburn was hurt, but he was not immobilized, and he was lucid every time we saw him in the episode. There was nothing preventing him from locking the windows, or maybe calling in an extra set of eyes in case he passed out. So, yes, Braeburn IS bad at watching children, and he's just lucky the dangerous outlaw they encountered wasn't actually a bad guy.
@roguekat99
@roguekat99 8 жыл бұрын
Omni Viewer That may be true if it was a 2 year old, but parents or babysitters don't normally go into kids room to lock window, because kids can unlock window. He was sitting at the front door, and the CMC climbed out the window. The CMC act like they would be around the age where if they decide to run away, they would. Also, as seen in 'Some pony to watch over me' Applebloom, runs away while Applejack is in the house. I give Braeburn credit because this is not the only time these 3, mostly Applebloom, have ran away while adults are in the same room or same house. 'Bridal Gossip' anyone.

4:04 NO DUDE Seriously, his special talent is being in the rodeo, he just read it as bad luck. He even mentions the revelation in the episode: "And finally, I wrangled up the guts to audition for rodeo school, and right in the middle of that try out, I knew I was doing what I was meant to. *gets cutiemark*" His mark was supposed to represent that joy he felt while being in the rodeo, but because he screwed up after, he instead interpreted it as his clumsiness after the fact.
@Dethneko
@Dethneko 8 жыл бұрын
+MissFinefeather I've said it before and I'll continue to say it, the show has jumped through hoops to show that cutie marks are not gained for discovering your special talent (as much as they want to tell us that's what it is) but rather for discovering what you want to do with your life. Trobuleshoes decided he wanted to devote his life to the rodeo, an admirable choice, thus he got a horseshoe for a cutie mark, a symbol I believe is representative of the rodeo. His special talent (if you can call it that) is being a klutz, hence the 'bad luck' positioning, as while the mark might be revealed when you decide what you want to do with your life so rarely does your special talent not play a role in it's design. In a way you could interpret Troubleshoe's cutie mark as "rodeo klutz" or "rodeo clown." So, no, he didn't get his mark when he realized what he was meant to do, since he was trying out for a position vastly different than his cutie mark suggests he should be doing.

Regarding the personal revelation thing, trouble shoes specifically said that during the audition he knew he would always be a rodeo pony. So it's almost as if he realized where he was meant to be, just not what he was meant to do.

+Jay Smith ^This^ Troubleshoes' revelation was that he was meant to be in the rodeo, that's what cuased his cutie mark to appear.he just didn't realize what part he was suited to playing in said rodeo.
@Jirodyne
@Jirodyne 8 жыл бұрын
+7Seraphem7 That doesn't work. Rarity always knew she was going to work with clothes and be Clothes Maker. Yet she didn't get her cutie mark, and her's isn't even related to clothing at all but to Gems. This episode is a bad episode. A horrible episode. It has a moral it wants to teach, but couldn't find a way to logically make it work, so broke their own Lore to make it work. Think on that. We have never, NEVER seen, heard, or had mention of a pony getting their cutie mark and not knowing what it means. Because everypony always got their cutie mark doing something that used their special talents. Even Bloom and Gloom, Luna states that a Cutie Mark is basically Who You Are. Trouble Shoes however, wasn't do anything related to being a Rodeo clown, already knew he wanted to be in the Rodeo, and already knew he was a kluts from failing everything else he tried. Why would he suddenly get his cutie mark right then and there. Taking in the Bloom and Gloom lession, It would mean Trouble Shoes wouldn't know who he was, at which point how did he get a Cutie Mark?! By that Logic, AB should have gotten a cutie mark like 3 times now. Potion making with Twilight, making a Potion with the Hearts Desire from Zecora, and patching up the Club House. Same with Scoots and Sweetie, riding the scooter and singing. I have talked with many people, and thought about it in many ways, and I can not see how Trouble Shoes would fit into the MLP Lore brought up before that Episode. And while Lauren did say they don't hammer Logic too much into the show, that doesn't mean they can break the lore they already came up with. This so far I think is the second time they did that. The first being bringing Maud into existance.
@DragonTrainer201
@DragonTrainer201 8 жыл бұрын
I would actually take it a step further and suggest having the confidence to go after your dreams is what earns you your cutie mark. Troubleshoes may have been doing well enough during auditions that he gained enough confidence to definitively say to himself that he was meant to be a rodeo pony. In comparison, Rarity earned her cutie mark after seeing everyone's reactions to her costumes, not when she discovered the gems and not when she finished the costumes. The audiences' reactions gave her the confidence boost she needed to pursue her destiny with no doubts in her mind.
@Jirodyne
@Jirodyne 8 жыл бұрын
DragonTrainer201 And how does that apply to Twilight, who was so afraid and lost control in a magical Flare? Or Pinkie Pie who didn't have Confidence problem, and same with Fluttershy and Rainbow. Fluttershy gained hers from finding she can talk with Animals. And Rainbow was already cocky as a kid, and winning races, doing a Rainbow doesn't change that, and probably didn't even know what she was doing at the time, only after. Also what about Twist too? And Cheerilee said she just woke up one morning to find it there.

I still can't find myself to review this episode. I had a lot of issues with it but it still got some good parts. Oh, and the whole levitating the keys instead of taking them when the sheriff left does have counter argument. People have been telling me that if the keys were still hanging up, there would have been a chance that the sheriff might take the keys as he leaves. While I can see that happening, the sheriff didn't even hesitate to check and take the keys so it doesn't really work in this situation.

That bit where you called the sheriff incompetent because he left Trouble Shoes unattended isn't the worst thing. I learned that way back in the 1930s when my hometown's police department first started, there were only ever two officers on duty at any given time, so when one officer was on a call, the other would be doing dispatch back at the station (which at the time shared a building with city hall as well as a used car dealership). However, if the second officer was needed as well, then he would just pull some drunkard out of his cell and answer calls until one of the officers got back.

The interesting thing for me here is that Troubleshoes proves that one does not need to be aware of one's talent to get a cutie mark while performing it. This shows us that the CMC's cutie marks can't be the things we saw them do in Show Stoppers. If they were, the kids would have earned them in Show Stoppers
@writer_man5318
@writer_man5318 8 жыл бұрын
+Skye Silverwing Troubleshoes is a bit different - he's like Twilight's magic cutie mark, it's very broad. Troubleshoes special talent is to be in the rodeo, his klutziness makes him a rodeo clown - his special talent is simply to perform in one. Just like how Twilight's is simply being talented in magic and Trixie's seems to be the same, but look how they handle it differently.Troubleshoes issues is that he misinterpreted his mark as bad luck instead of finding his place.
@Dethneko
@Dethneko 8 жыл бұрын
I may have to disagree. Pinkie, Rainbow and Fluttershy got their marks through performing their special talent without being show to even realize they had gotten their marks at the time in question, so potentially the same with Twilight that she could have gotten her cutie mark when she discovered just how powerful her magic could be, except she did not. Twilight didn't get her mark until Celestia took her on as her protege. Contrary to the show constantly telling us cutie marks appear when you discover your special talent it goes on to show that the marks really don't appear until you decide what you want to do with your life, and Twilight couldn't realize she wanted to be Celestia's protege/successor until she was made aware Celestia would even take her on to begin with. I still side with Sweetie Belle's special talent being singing and Scootaloo's special talent being daredevilry, but they won't get their marks for these talents until they decide this is what they want to devote their lives to. Apple Bloom's talent might still be in homemaking/general maintenance, but to be honest that feels like general knowledge for growing up on a farm. Being the one with main character status in the CMC it's possible her special talent was avoided, that or they changed their mind later, because later episodes point to potion brewing and alternative magic as her special talent. Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo have since stuck with singing and daredevilry respectively as their most likely special talents.

@AllistorRichards
@AllistorRichards 8 жыл бұрын
Just gonna put this one out here easily: Troubleshoe's cutie mark is a mark that came from being in a situation that brought out the potential for his talent and passion to shine as both passion and talent are needed for a cutie mark (something we see later in the series.) The realization for Trouble was that he was at his most passionate in the rodeo, there was no place he'd rather be, but the talent hadn't come to him yet and was discovered the moment he got it. Though unfortunately for him he doesn't recognize his own talents right away and that causes him to look down on his mark and not understand it. In fact that's one of the reasons I love this episode and this season for dealing with Cutie Marks, as it sets the ground rules for how they form and how they can be misunderstood which actually brings a new light on earlier episode like the very first in fact. This episode showed how a mark can spawn from an overwhelming sense of passion yet be misunderstood in you seeing how your talent doesn't fit in with your passion (whereas another episode later shows that you can understand your talent but not your passions.)

I always thought that they took the keys off the wall before distracting the Sheriff so he WOULDN'T grab his keys on the way out. I feel one of the bigger flaws with the CMC, imo, is that they basically told us what their talents are in one of their earliest episodes. It removed all mystery and chances for theorizing, and left us with basically a waiting game for when they themselves find out what they are.

We've heard about the ponyville rodeo before. Its not much, but in season 1 rarity dares applejack to not go to the rodeo next time it comes to town.

Personally, I liked Trouble shoes. I called him cutty the clown. The main thing i like was how much of a downer he was in contrast with how joyous all the other ponies were. He's like sadness from Inside out. Depressing but also quite amusing. his slapstick wasn't funny but his reaction was hilarious. He was just like 'F*ck it' all the time.

"He's terrible with children and grossly irresponsible." Okay, considering the fact that *it was day when he sat down and night when the kids escaped*, I'd assume that he was watching them for a least a few hours before dozing off. Also, the kids should know better than to *leave the house where they are staying* (in a strange town to boot) *in the middle of the night*! I could understand them slipping out during the day or even near sundown and getting lost, but at night? You'd have thought they'd have learned their lesson with the flipping cockatrice... and with Scootaloo almost getting smashed on the rocks at the bottom of a waterfall!

I honestly think the moral for this episode would've worked better if Trouble Shoes hadn't gotten his cutie mark yet, and then he finally got it well into his adulthood when he entered the rodeo as a clown. That would've been a great moral for kids to show them how even some adults don't know what they want to do with their lives sometimes. At least, i think so anyway.

Yeah this episode reminds me of this weird thing my family has which goes "if life gives you peanuts give them away" it's a shame because the majority of my family has some kind of genetic allergy to peanuts my it's also a way of saying "yes you may not have gotten exactly what you asked for and you may not like what you do but others might and even if you don't like what you're doing maybe sometimes you have to suck it up for the joy of others"

Also I feel like the fact that cutie marks are never explained the same way makes sense. People's roles in life and their passion are all different, and they all interact with that role in a different way, so it makes sense that each pony's cutie mark works a bit differently. All they really know is that it's a representation of something, probably what you are? Somehow? But since no one actually knows beyond their own experiences, they just say what it means to them and how they interact with who they are. It's actually kind of brilliant.

If you think about it Shinning Armor, Cheese Sandwich, Bray Burn, and Fancy Pants could be considered some of the mane six's male counter parts. Shinning Armor is a Prince (by marriage) and has a talent for magic so much so that he was able to create huge barrier spell around Canterlot for his wedding and he's captain of the guard (also proving his worth with magic). Cheese Sandwich throws blow outs like Pinkie Pie, has cheese sense while Pinkie has pinkie sense, takes to a rubber chicken while Pinkie talks to her pet baby gator, and their "quirkiness" (yeah lets call it that!) is similar. Bray Burn is similar to Apple Jack in the sense that they both use countryisms, both ready to fight when need be, both stubborn (though Bray Burn does fall through unlike Apple Jack), and they even look more like siblings than Apple Jack and Big Mac do! What is up with that? They could be twins! And then Fancy Pants is big in the fashion world that Rarity desperately wants to get into. And likes to look down on others while Rarity tends to do the same thing without even realizing it. But, like Rarity, will give the deserving their praise. And again they look similar!

I feel like I am one of few who kinda liked this episode. Mostly because it made me think about cutiemarks and what they could mean to different ponies. And for some reasons I do like Troubleshoes and what he brings to the table. In an season where so many episodes are focused on cutiemarks and talents I think this adds like another dimension or another way to look at it. I dunno, I do like this episode for what it brings, atleast to me. Don't if this made any sense but that is how I feel, if I could make a good review video on this maybe I could elaborate further...i dunno.

THANK YOU for noticing, five years ago, that the CMC were perfectly competent to take a train without adult supervision. Something that the writers knew in season 9... and then forgot by later in season 9. There is exactly one episode in the entire series where I mind characters regressing.
