Taking Japan's OLDEST Bullet Train Shinkansen from Niigata to Tokyo

This time, I traveled from Niigata to Tokyo by Japan's slowest Shinkansen, Joetsu Shinkansen Toki.
The train can run at maximum speed 240kmph/149mph, the slowest speed limit in the Shinkansen(Japanese high-speed train). I hope you will relax and enjoy the journey.

この春まで地元長岡市に住んでいました。ときは修学旅行や就活で何度も乗ったので、車内放送や車窓からの景色がとても懐かしく感じますね……😢 余談ですが、冬場に雪で普通電車が止まった場合は、定期利用者のみ新幹線で代替輸送をしてくれるので、長岡から新潟の通学定期を持っていた私は毎日電車が止まる事を祈ってましたね…懐かしい…

The punctuality of Japanese transportation is its best feature. Also the "super" clean bathrooms. On a funny note, the statue of the drunk guy holding a "sake" bottle was super funny 😁.

上越新幹線にご乗車ありがとうございます！自分は新潟県の県央地区の者で東京方面に遊びに行く際は決まって燕三条駅から上越新幹線を利用してました！去年までは2階建てのMaxが走っててとても愛着を持ってたので平屋の列車だけになったのは寂しいですね。 2階席から見る車窓は本当に素晴らしかったです！来年度にはE7系への車両の統一により275km/hに最高速度が上がるので一気に利便性が上がりそうですね！ちなみに県外の方ではよく間違える方が多いのですが上越新幹線が走るのは下越地方と中越地方です😅 上越地方は北陸新幹線が走ってますよ！

I saw that they painted an E2 Shinkansen in the old White and Green livery - looked wonderful! The normal blue and grey livery is very dull. Bet you'd have liked to have travelled on one of the old Double Deck E4 units that used to be on that route!

I been on this Shinkansen before. During Autumn and winter, the view was nice. I feel the speed was reasonable but yeah, the seats looks less attractive compared to other Shinkansen.

Great trip. Looks like there are correlation between window, aerodynamic, and speed. When your train passing Tanigawa Mountain Range, this remembered me about same name in Shinkansen

E2系は2023年に上越新幹線の定期列車から離脱してしまうので、窓が大きく解放的な車両で田園風景を眺める、なんてことはもうできなくなってしまうんですよね。その代わり、最新型のE7系へ統一の上で時速275キロ運転を開始して「日本一遅い新幹線」を卒業することになるのですが。

For some reason I thought wasabi would taste really weird. When I tried some here in the UK it tasted very similar to our horseradish. Delicious.

"Wasabi" is usually just horseradish, with food coloring and maybe a couple other ingredients mixed in. Even in Japan, though more stuff may have some % of wasabi in it. If you go to a more serious restaurant in Japan (and rarely abroad) they'll give you a wasabi stem and a grater, or grate it in front of you. This proves it's the much more expensive stuff. But it's also because the flavor brought out by the grating only lasts for about the length of time it would take to eat the meal. If you like horseradish you should probably also like wasabi, though you might not necessarily like it more.

厳密にいえば、山陽新幹線を走る500系が営業列車としては最古ですね(2022/11時点)。現在上越新幹線として運用されているE2系は後期型(1000番代)で、2001年～製造分です。

However, I would like a bit more of side stories, more snacks and eating, things to see and do, a bit more commentary, personal opinion. As an english speaker and one not a speaker of Japanese, how in the heck could I enjoy to do what you do in Japan?
