Have you ever taken the Amtrak train before? If so where?

So glad we decided to take the Amtrak over driving! Can't wait to see the other Chicago videos too, such a fun weekend!

Yes, about 30 years ago, a friend and I took Amtrak from Ann Arbor to Detroit.

I rode that train in Business class from Kalamazoo to Ann Arbor as part of a multi stage round trip to Ionia MI from my home near Albany NY. Amtrak bussed me from Ann Arbor to Toledo to catch the Lake Shore Limited home. On the LSL I booked a roomette. This was in Feb. 2020 before COVID. Lived in Chicago for four years too.....many decades ago.

I live in Ann Arbor and I always take the train to Chicago all the time to see my family and friends up there. I love the Wolverine $80 bucks round trip on the weekdays.

We went Chicago to Newton! The seats are so comfy and roomy, we’ll definitely do it again!

I took the train from Chicago to Detroit- it was wonderful and I hope to do it again soon.

I was thinking of doing this for my trip to Chicago in April!!!!

Train travel is the best way to travel

Detroit area rider here, and I do have to say that all the new train sets (Siemens venture) cars are being delivered as we speak. The trains that you’re riding on (Horizon and Amfleet from the 70s/80s) are being phased out next year on the Wolverine. I’m actually beyond excited for it.

Hey, I’m planning on doing this route at the end of the month. I just wondered whether your train was on time? I’ve read a lot about Amtrak trains being unreliable and regularly delayed / cancelled. Thanks for the really helpful video! 😊

Great video. I'm planning to do this soon. I had couple of questions.. 1. Along with a back pack if you carry cabin bag should you pay for it. 2. Is it safe for solo female traveller ( I'm traveling back and forth on weekends)

Hey Kayla, Thanks for sharing. You need to take an Amtrak Superliner trip, with the double decker cars and big windows. Amtrak is nice, if you are not in a hurry. Plus, I love trains, so I love traveling on Amtrak. I have done several trips. Los Angeles to Chicago on the Southwest Chief. The California Zephyr from Chicago to Emeryville (San Francisco) is nice. You go thru Denver and over the Rocky Mountains and also over the Sierra Nevada mountains between Reno and Sacramento. So many choices. Stay sweet and take care.

a couple buddies of mine used to do this all the time if nothing was really popping off where we lived (Livonia, MI) They would take the amtrak out to Chicago and rent 1 hotel room for literally everyone lol and then just throw down for the weekend. I remember some guys would just go for a night and come back the next day just because the amtrak was so cheap lol

Took the Amtrak from NY to DC, loved train travel and will definitely want to work a trip from Michigan to Chicago when back in the States.

I live in Indiana near the border with Chicago but have never taken the train in America. Can't wait to book a similar trip and try it out for myself! I've traveled all across Europe so it will be interesting to see how these trains compare

I live in Sacramento and to drive up to the bay area and some places in Southern California like LA you do better taking a train or flying using uber, driving and parking is a nightmare and expensive you even pay to park at most hotels $35-$68 a night. I took a Amtrak from Oakland to Sacramento once a short trip took longer because of many stops. I would love to take a long overnight trip with Amtrak they have some amazing vacation packages looks so relaxing slow-paced so no rushing.

Amtrak is my favorite. Wolverine is my favorite when I visit Ann Arbor and Detroit on Mondays to Wednesdays for $80 bucks round trip. Amtrak Hiawatha Service is my favorite from Chicago to Milwaukee $50 bucks round trip everyday. I also love Lake Shore Limited to Cleveland train 48/448 and Amtrak Capitol Limited to Pittsburgh. Thank you for the pros and cons while using Amtrak because I go to aldis to get me some lunch meat sandwiches and chips because Amtrak foods are very priceless.

Ann Arbor was given over $4 million by the feds over 10 years ago to build a new train station. Results....nada with costs now exceeding $40 million and counting. A2 is Wolverines busiest station exepting Chicago and the present station is pitiful.

Hi, I'm about to take this train soon next month. How much room for storage does this train have? Amtrak website says I can bring a 28 x 22 x 14 inches bag as carry on. I'm just mostly looking for the luggage space.

Question for anyone: My family (me, wife, 4 year old, 5 month old) are doing Amtrak on the Wolverine 353 and need to bring a carseat with a base and a toddler car seat. They arent doing checked bags. Is there a spot on the train for bigger items or are we trying to put them in the overhead?
