This is like my first edited video ever I know it's not good I just tried to finish it fast. This was my first time ever riding a motorcycle I thought it was gonna be really hard but it was actually pretty easy. It was a lot of fun I take the State Test on May 28th I feel pretty confident about it too. #motorcycle #motovlog #moto #harleydavidson

Small Update: I took the state test today and to my surprise I failed. First of all the DMV tester was extremely rude and didn't explain what we had to do. All he said was "line up on the T, ok, Go". Like wtf go where bro, I just sat there and he said "do you not know what you're doing? Did they not teach you this, why should I have to tell you this". He then reluctantly explains it. Our instructors had told us that during the U-turn you will get 1 point if you put your foot down and 1 point if you go outside the line. During the test I had a bad U-turn and I was about to put my foot down and was gonna cross the line as well. So instead of doing both and getting 2 points I went a little wide and only got a point for going outside the line. But what happened next completely shocked me. The DMV tester said "you're done". Meaning the whole test. I failed instantly for crossing the line. Despite the MSF instructors telling me to either put a foot down or cross the line just don't do both. Right after the test I went and talked to one of the coaches from the MSF course about it and he said that crossing the line is NOT an instant disqualification. I'm super pissed about this but luckily the Harley Dealership is on my side and they are talking to the state trying to get the guy fired, because I wasn't the first nor the last person he did this to today. Now I have to wait until June 17th to retake it. Completely Stupid.

I did the msf course through the state 5 years ago and failed and I also dumped the bike, well I flew over the handlebars. So after that I didn’t get back on a bike again until last year when my best friend told me to ride his bike. I was hesitant at first because of what happened to me but I finally agreed and was amazed that I did it. And after I got back home to Michigan, I signed up for the H-D Riding Academy took it august 20th, 2022. And it was amazing! The class was small, the instructor was friendly and patient and he really wanted you to pass. So on the day of the final test. We did the questionnaire first which was 30 questions for which I got 100% then we went out on the bike, did few warmups followed by some new and improved lessons before we did the evaluation. By the end I walked away with a score of 7! And next month I will finally be getting my first Harley! I can’t wait

I'm an experienced rider but really enjoyed watching this. Back when I passed the MC riding check (in California) you just had to do some low speed parking lot turns between cones. I wish it were a little more like the EU now in the US, there'd be fewer new rider fatalities and fewer people giving up riding because they deemed it too dangerous. I hope you have a long and riding career. There's nothing else like it.
@lemon15960
@lemon15960 Ай бұрын
I agree completely with you about the EU and US differences. While I am glad I don't have to wait to get a bigger bike, it definitely would save lives by having people actually learn on a bike that they can control better. Although making people start on like a 125 is crazy, maybe like 300 or 400cc.
@Nomerstad92
@Nomerstad92 Ай бұрын
@@lemon15960 You don't really have to start on 125cc, but it's an age thing. 16-year olds have a limit of 125, 18-year olds have a limit on 35 kw (about 400-500 cc), but some bikes like mt07 could come with a power-limited version. No limitations comes in when you turn 24 or you have had A2 license (18-year olds) for at least 2 years. The license process is somewhat similar for all classes, but to upgrade to a higher class you need a "short" extension-course + what your previous course didn't include. 11 hours total for A1(125) to A2 and 7 hours for A2 to A(no limit), but no need for another practical test. As a 32-year old man i have just started on the course for an A-license and can have an 1300cc as my first bike, but i wont. Safety also comes at a price. Obligatory lessons is about 2500$ USD(Norway), and that is if i am the perfect student and basically ace everything.

Leading cause of motorcycle fatalities are head ons and usually at intersections from left turning cagers not paying attention. Intersections are more dangerous than hauling ass on a normal traffic laden freeway. Wide turns are a very common motorcycle accident BUT you can have too much entry speed on ANY bike. Not the fast ones. Starting on a big bike didn’t mean you’ll wreck. It DOES mean you need to be very respectful of the machine you’re sitting on. I started on a 2023 MT-09 and had that thing fully modded and tuned within a four months. Thing was a blast and went to my current bike I have now a little more than year later. Both bikes are dangerous but I could get into the same trouble on a Duke 250.

If anyone is nervous about it, that’s totally normal. My instructors were very informative, helpful, and encouraging. They’ll explain the drills, and then demo them, and then the class will do it. Good luck with your test next week! A similar thing happened to me in my MSF course. The instructors were very rude and would blatantly talk crap about the riders in the BEGINNER course struggling with skills they barely explained. Failed my first test (3/7 failed) but the instructor for my retake was absolutely splendid. Gave us time to try out the exercises for the test and was willing to explain exactly what was expected for each exercise and how the grading worked. I messed up my U-turn again but without a way to practice without a license who wouldn't? Everyone in my class and in the retake struggled with the U-turn so you're not alone there. Believe in yourself and don't forget to breathe! Looking forward to seeing some vlog content in the future!

Reading some of the comments, I think this is not a real MSF course but rather a Harley Davidson's once, hence why OP had to do the DMV test instead of showing a real MSF card to get the endorsement automatically, this would also explain the newer bikes. I also had like a 20 yo dual purpose bike with the worst shifter 😂.

Here's a tip that may help with dmv type tests. Use a light small displacement motorcycle. The dual sport bikes seem to work best. They are easy to maneuver at low speeds. Also focus on your desired path.

Really cool course and well done! Noticed when you looked down at your shoes though that your laces were out. Try tucking them into the shoe, to prevent that they catch on something though. Too much things around the feet they might catch on, and it might end up very badly. Edit: A bit further in, when you did more slow stuff like slalom through the cones etc. I noticed that you're kinda jerky, and vary your speed quite a bit. Try keeping the throttle just opened, and compensate with smooth movements on the rear brake. You can clutch too of course if your RPM gets too low, but that's the thing you are trying to avoid with the rear brake, in addition to the smoother ride and added control - as you can keep RPM up at a level where you won't stall. I would say rear brake is your main tool in slow speed maneuvering. Also always have two fingers on the front brake and the clutch, especially in these low speeds. I never take them off unless I am cruising at highway speeds or the likes. If you have to reach out to the levers, you run a high risk of overdoing it because your mind knows you are already late.
@lemon15960
@lemon15960 Ай бұрын
Yea during the slow stuff I would definitely pull my clutch in a let off the throttle then would lose all my speed and have to use the throttle which is why it was jerky. But with the front brake they said they didn't want us to have our hands on it while turning, they took off points for doing it.

How long does it take for the whole process? Btw I'm sorry for that happened at your test. It is 100% his ego not letting you pass, you definitely should have had it!
@TheTwitch03
@TheTwitch03 23 күн бұрын
Hey @jailsondias4102, just thought I'd share my experience with you since I was in the same boat not too long ago. If you don't have any riding experience at all, the process can be lengthy, but also depends on how determined you are to get out there and ride. I used to ride dirt bikes as a kid, so my understanding of the motorcycle started from a young age. However, street riding is a whole different game, and it's one that I'm still learning even after my MSF course. If you're planning on signing up, once do sign up the classroom part and riding portion come pretty quickly depending on the scheduled class you select. For example, I signed up for mine the first week of May of this year, I'd say around the 7th, and my class started the 9th and ended on the 12th. It's a fairly quick class but you learn a TON! If you're talking about obtaining your license, if you pass your MSF course and pass the written exam at the DMV, then you'll have your license in a matter of weeks, less than a month. Depending on your state of course. My best recommendation is start reading the MSF basic ridercourse handbook. Or even the handbook for obtaining your license that they offer on the DMV website. Then take your written exam at the DMV to obtain your riding permit. The only reason I say go this route, is so once you pass your MSF course, you take your certificate of completion and boom, you're a licensed rider. The work starts there, and you'll continue to learn the more you ride. Good luck on your journey if you decide to take that step, and safe riding!

Driving instructors are always so authoritative and seemingly power hungery. "Could have sworn I said nice and easy" Well thats not a very good definition is it? Maybe say keep it under 15 or something. Or just tell them to slow it down a bit. No need to be passive aggressive.

@@lemon15960 at that point he was referring to your aggressive acceleration. Your confusion on where to go would logically have made you go slower, not faster.. so that logic simply does not compute. I agree that it was unnecessarily passive aggressive of the instructor, but in the end he was right. Don't let frustrations being in the way of listening. If you refuse good advice because it is said in a bad way, then you refuse your own safety as you then just ignore it like a toddler and apply your own bad behavior instead once you're out of there, too (i.e. in real traffic). Nothing is going to humble you more on a bike than ego.

this is so confusing... why they don't use normal cones just some nipples you barely can see In my country to get full motorcycle license you need to do 20h of riding school (pick one on the market), pass national driving theory exam and then you're allowed to participate in national practical riding exam... but there are very specific and well described manoeuvrers with clear rules they teach you in riding school and when you pass that then you're out on a street ride with examiner asking you to do things on road. There is like a huge list of things you must do and you're graded pass or fail on each one (to fail whole exam you need to fail just one thing) It's very easy to fail (stalling, hitting a cone or crossing white line is instant fail) but at least it makes sense than this. Riding a bike is fun AF... and stressful

Yea it is almost just as easy to fail here. But the fact that they make it so confusing adds on to the difficulty for sure.

MSF course is easier than courses in most other countries I've seen. I would consider that the absolute bare minimum of required skills to ride a motorcycle. Its a scary idea how there are riders out there who didn't take this
