WAIT WTF WTF WTF?!?!?! Tales of Phantasia takes place 4000 years before Symphonia?!?!? THATS FUCKING AWESOME! I never knew that! That makes this so fucking epic! Holy shit!

Fierous Noxtis Either 4000 or 2000 but yeah! That's why you see a lot of Symphonia references in Phantasia. Like that tree at the begging of Phantasia was actually the great Kharlan Tree.

Fierous Noxtis Symphonia very very obviously took place in the same timeline as Phantasia. The only question when playing it was whether it was before or after, which became clear as the game went on. Phantasia boasted many trivial details that the player could easily miss that would later tie into Symphonia. For instance, a book in one of Phantasia's libraries or another talks about the twin moons, Tethe'alla and Sylvarant. In Symphonia, each world has one of those names and one such moon, and names it after the other world. So, if the worlds are fused back together... Also, someone with too much time on their hands took Symphonia's world maps, rotated them around, stuck them on top of each other, and found that the resulting map looked a lot like Phantasia's.

***** ... which Symphonia doesn't actually tell you Lloyd named the tree. Knowing Lloyd, he named it BigTree and somebody else bopped him on the head and made him name it Yggdrasil.

Curious, what's your fav Sakuraba OST? I have to settle on either Star Ocean 2 or 3, but dude makes amazing music for everything. His work in Golden Sun is also amazing.

@@Naetrox That's a good question! It's a basic answer, but probably Golden Sun. Some of the songs from that game have stuck with me for many years, and he did such a wonderful job even with the GBA's sound limitations.

@@Naetroxrry to jump in here. What makes his work on Golden Sun superior is that it feels like a spiritual successor to Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean for the SNES. He went on to become a more seasoned composer and went back to his roots. GBA sound quality used to be an issue, but thanks to folks like Coaltergeist (KZfaq channel) that soundtrack can be enjoyed in superior fidelity. This track is by Shinji Tamura actually, sometimes i also did confuse his tracks with the one by Sakuraba lol

SNES musicians were more ambicious it was a challenge to do it and with more than a 100 voices and a complete song with lyrics they simply couldn't make simple music

Sony made such a great sound chip that it could do just that. Combine that with this being released near the end of the consoles life.

Shinji Tamura did this perfectly. After this game, they let Sakuraba do all the battle themes and Tamura mostly did character themes and city themes.

Symphonia is a 1000+ year prequel to Phantasia. This was already confirmed. The tree in Phantasia is the Symphonia tree.

This game has many battle themes and this is one of them ;-) It is reserved for rare special occasions though: when you fight against one of the elemental spirits, which, after you defeat them, you can later summon to help you in battle. Those fights are boss fights, often at the end of a long and grinding dungeon. You are rewarded with this heroic track for the finale :-)

Yes, this is one of the tracks that Tamura composed for the series. Sakuraba did the arrangement for the Symphonia version though.

TOPmusicman8 I recall seeing somewhere that Tamura was more comfortable in an advisory role, focusing more on arrangements and editing rather than composing. Even when Phantasia was released, Sakuraba was the guy that Namco had their eye on, which explains why he's done nearly all their soundtracks since.
