You know peeps complain about this movie but i say it like this be glad this got an anime because alot of good game REALLY DONT GET CRAP. So is it that hard to appreciate that we got something outta it.

This game in the end...made me feel like the villian

OVAs are meant to be short and sweet. I'm sure you know that this OVA was based off of the video game, Tales of Phantasia, the very first game in the Tales series. The game establishes a lot more, and expands on the significance of Dhaos's hatred of humans, his acceptance that he's not so different, Cless, Mint and Chester's ancestry, and Suzu being forced to kill her parents. There's a lot more too.

I don't think this animation is as good as Abyss' (maybe if it had more episodes), but I like it much more than Symphonia's. Plus, it's great to see the party in shiny animated beauty, instead of little sprites. And hear voices! XD

I know this is more ToS animation related, but when Suzu introduced herself as "Fujibayashi, Suzu." that brought back memories! In the ToS anime thats how Sheena first introduces herself. "Fujibayashi, Sheena." I really like the ToS anime, it has a special place in my heart. I did notice that Sheena and Suzu have similar pink ribbons in their hair! Its really cool the connections between those two, even if their couple thousand year relatives!

....chill out dude. It's an OVA based off a game. If you want every single detail about what happened, go play Tales of Phantasia for the SNES, PSX, or GBA (personally, I recommend the PSX version translated by Phantasian Productions) I could of complained about how they time traveled using a device salvaged from Thor, instead of actually going to Thor to time travel, but I just enjoyed this for what it was. A short and sweet series with VERY minimal changes from the game.

Damn, I SO wish there was a whole series of the whole game, like over 50 episodes. I would shit my pants!

The voice actor for Cless Albane is Johnny Yong Bosch, who is indeed, the voice of Kurosaki Ichigo.

I do like that Dhaos' soul sort of became a great seed thanks to Martel. He succeeded but at the cost of his life. And Cless and everyone will ensure that Yggdrasil will continue to flourish. ❤❤

The thing that really makes me sad about the ending is Arche waiting 100 years to see Chester again

The game for GBA tells you A LOT more about its concept and VERY detailed that it literally takes you about 4 to a week to beat it nonstop

No matter how many times i come back to watch this OVA, I always find myself empathizing with Dhaos instead of the protagonists. They truly are in the wrong. He wants to save his world, while they are in fact dooming theirs by opposing his destruction of magitech. He could've taken that seed from Yggdrasil without harming anything at all, if only they had been willing to listen to him instead of judging him unfairly.

I feel like this is not ending for me...

Gotta love how Dhaos didn't do anything wrong through the entirety of Tales of Phantasia, yet the game pigeon holes you into killing him anyway. His quest may ultimately succeed, but the cost is absurdly high.

This is a pretty good animation, that really give the emotions the game gave me. But that's a shame they just did 4 episodes instead of an entire serie, to fit more with the game... Because of it, they missed some elements (like Morlia mines, Demitel, and of course the 2 forms Dhaos takes after having been defeat once at the end) that was really interesting too. Besides, because of it some things don't fit... For example, dawn, how did Morrisson use Indignation at the beginning without mana ???

Hmm... Derris Kharlan is being said a little funny... BUT this Anime is quite the shiet.

HOLY Shit is the anime bad. If I didn't play the game I wouldn't know WTF was going on. THe dialogue is terrible, there are huge time skipping jump cuts, they left out alot of important info... transition from ep 3 to 4 was awful! they are fighting Suzu's father, Origin gets summoned.. then they are at dhaos's castle> NOTHING IT EXPLAINED!! Shit, the Pendant wasn't even explained until the last ep! THey could have made this the traditional 20-26 episode long anime, got everything out of the way! They skipped finding the 4 great spirits, they skipped going to Odins Tower and Fenrir's temple, they designed Flamberge and the Vorpal sword completely wrong. They arent just a red n blue sword but the embodiment of Odin and Fenrirs souls, the essence of fire and ice themselves... SHIT! They didn't even do the classic Pegasus battle!!! GRRR I hate this anime. It was poorly done and rushes. Plus why the fuck do they quote Morrison like 6 times? "If there is evil in this world,then truly it lies in the heart of man" Yeah a cool line, main point of the story, but they say it every, friggin, episode. They said it once in the game, not even in the game itself! Just before it started!! Tales of games are known for their decent to good stories and amazing characters, but mint and cress are wooden boards and arche n' chester are cliche's. Claus is to... Suzu... is was to serious... FUCK this anime.

I liked the anime n' all, but I have a few problems with it. This is coming from a person who played Tales of Phantasia. Some of them are, well you can guess for those who aswell played the game, it didn't follow the story at all, maybe a little close, but not that much. Looking at this in a show/movie standpoint, It really lacked in explaining things, and it is really rushed. But hey, the development team have only 30 minutes of footage for each 4 episodes to get this up. Probably why Tales of Phantasia isn't a movie is because the lack of funding. Movies are really expensive to make. They done what they could. Also, animations for an animated movie and go way over 1,000 frames, and it takes hours or heck months to make the animation look fluid. Still I wouldn't say their attempt was terrible, I have seen more half assed animes than this. It was Alright and I enjoyed watching it.

this anime was not great... GOOD but not great... the plot was excelent, however there was no developement, no plot twists or revelations. the characters are very vague. the action scenes were action packed but too short... and the animation was excelent. the voice actors performed greatly too... but it would have been better if there was more to the plot...

Man they butchered the story I mean cmon ishrantu in 4354 wtf he was already dead in the past. Morrison never did indignation his ancestor did, dhaos never helped to heal they tree, and there is so much more they fucked with. And for the mission dhaos was sent on yes it had good intentions to save his home world but he went about it in the worst possible way... This anime Is hurting my head the way it's screwing with the original story. In spite of these glaring mistakes the animation was pretty good and it was nice to see this not on a game screen so much. 2.5/5

The animation on this was beautiful. The plot was stupid. The man who was bad wasn't really bad no one ever tried to come to middle ground with him even though he tried but everyone just attacked him. And what's the point of traveling through time just to see Society is stagnant and has not grown nor has there been any innovation. Is this supposed to be some kind of mythological anime Voyage to the Dark Ages.
