Some Scotch drinkers get the "Distillers Edition" mixed up with the "Distillery Exclusive". They are quite different and also the "Distillers Edition" can be bought at liquor stores across the globe but the "Distillery Exclusive" can supposedly, only be purchased at the distillery.
I was pretty much aware of the different Diageo distillery presentations because we had already previously toured four other Diageo distilleries. These "Distillery" Exclusives can be quite different from the distillery bottlings that you are familiar with from your local liquor store. They can actually be a pleasant surprise considering they are Diageo distilleries. They don't always follow the Diageo specs and I have had them non chill filtered and at a fairly high ABV so this one could be interesting. This sample was supplied by the distillery and unfortunately if I like it I would have to go back to the distillery in Scotland, on the Isle of Skye, to purchase it (or possibly at Johnnie Walker on Princess Street in Edinburgh). Either way that is a long trip for a bottle of whisky. Diageo should do something about that and open up a neo-Princess Street facility in North America. Dream on!
For most of you out there it is hard to get into a review on a whisky that you can only purchase at the distillery. I have reviewed this for you who are the curious Scotch folk who want to know the difference in the Talisker whiskies that we are familiar with and this unique "Distillers Exclusive".
