Everything iconic here. The total silence, the choreography on the beam, the flexibility, the risk, the gracefulness, the extreme correction... And an unbeatable charisma. *Olga Korbut was the revolution, way ahead of her time.* Many times conservative judges saw her skills like circus. That's why 10s were impossible to the revolutionary Olga. In 1988 she became the first gymnast to be inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Not Nadia.

"Легенда"? Лучшей в мире и всех времён была советская гимнастка Лариса Латынина, ДЕВЯТИКРАТНАЯ олимпийская чемпионка. Она является абсолютной рекордсменкой по количеству выигранных медалей на олимпийских играх по спортивной гимнастике, среди женщин и мужчин - 9 золотых олимпийских медалей.

Smooth like butter because she’s doing cartwheels and back walkovers. A dancer or cheerleader could easily recreate what she’s done. The most basic moves in gymnastics.

They have a small bit of foam on top, and then it's covered with a leather suede type material so it's not as slippery, and your feet can grab easier! Especially if u have beam shoes on! I believe now days, however, they have some spring type mechanism, which, if that's true, would make it more forgiving when u land, and also give u more propulsion if your adding a second trick! I think that's a little cheating, but it's all about the wow factor now days! 😊

I never get tired of watching her. Her grace and incredible flexibility in that little petite body is mesmerizing!! I met her years later when she taught gymnastics in Atlanta. She was still petite and actually took the time to work with my daughter for about 15 minutes, teaching her how she could perfect her skills. My daughter, who is 36 now, was 7 at that time, and she remembers that fondly to this day.

There was something so special about her. I saw her 1972 performances as a child. I could never quite like Nadia’s style no matter how perfect she was. Olga’s grace was so beautiful.

She was so graceful, so smooth. Current gymnasts are amazingly talented, and so very strong. The more gentle, subtle side of the sport is kinda less pronounced. They really can’t be fairly compared; they are completely different in so many ways. And I’m here for all of it.

And just think, she was the alternate on the team and got to join the team at the last minute. Because of that, the world sat up and took notice of this tiny Russian girl that stunned the world with her ability. Because of her, women's gymnastics became the venue to watch. Watching her as a teenager is why I live for the summer Olympics.

LOVE how Olga takes her time. The viewer REALLY gets to take in, enjoy & appreciate each movement. It takes such stength to do these movements, yet Olga seems so light on her feet, she's so petite; she doesn't appear to be "that strong". Her work is artful, beautiful. She is ALWAYS a joy to watch. I wish modern gymnasts were able to slow down & take their time. Everything is so fast moving. It's all over in a blink.

What I just love is that one movement flows into another. None of this jerky style where the gymnast does one trick, stops, flips the hands, and then anticipates the next move before doing the actual stunt. This isn't just classical, this is pure class

Class?! Are you serious? Back then getting perfect scores was hella easy. Now even Simone Biles who is considered the best female gymnast in history can’t get a perfect score cause the levels of difficulty has gone way up. If you want “class” go watch dancers. Gymnastics is about going above and beyond the human condition and make the hardest feats of strength look easy. Women just evolved to not care about how it looks that much compared to how extremely impressive they can manage to get. None of these gymnasts back then who concentrated on grace can even hold a candle compared to today’s gymnasts in how cutthroat the sport has become.

Someday the world will think as much as they do of this loving memory from our past as someone from our present. She was not as complicated as the gymnasts of today but everything was perfect. That silence was never seen anywhere else for anyone else.

That total silence was for collective anxiety: the public was simply enchanted by Olga and, after the scandal (of the judges) of the UB final, where she performed the most iconic routine ever, the public yearned for a individual gold... That It finally ended up happening 2 times.

I remember watching this when I was a teenager. My family and I watched all of the Olympics. Even the winter Olympics. It was awesome to watch.
