Static age is my favorite recording from the misfits. I can listen to the whole album from start to finish and love every song. I learned how to play guitar and drums by playing along to static age. Without static age my life would not be the same today.

So awesome, great interview, I read about harpies in the night years ago on misfits central,if memory serves me, it said it was never recorded ,only performed. If it does exist, it must be released, the fiends deserve to hear it, especially now that the misfits are the world wide phenomenon that they are

i LOVE the misfits, but straight up im always a little hesitant to believe any stories Glenn or Jerry tell. but i really liked this, Franche seemed very honest and down to Earth, not trying to inflate his own legend or infamy. and i love all original misfits era material but that early stuff from this era has always been my favorite. for YEARS i always considered legacy of brutality my favorite and was so excited when the static age versions got released. Thank You Franche.

it's outrageous this guy played almost all of their best songs and he gets almost erased from misfit history. static age is essentially a greatest hits compilation- the songs are that good and each one is better than the last- and the guy people most associate with misfits guitarists is jerry's moody brother.

How skilled is Franche on guitar?. Im not familiar with any of his non-Misfits music and Static Age doesn't really have leads, aside from 138..What im getting at, is Frank in the same league as Bobby, or no?.. No disrespect aimed at anyone, but Bobby (to me) was the most proficient guitarist and has consistently play since the 70's with numerous bands and his own band The Undead!.. Always thought the Misfits should have had two guitarists, or at least kept Glenn on keyboards, but with a guitarist!.. The "12 Hits" release comes to mind and how cool it would have sounded with one guitarist playing Ramones down strokes and another (or keyboard) playing accents, different chords and lead work!..

I disagree with the notion that the Misfits didn't "sound" punk. In my mind, punk doesn't have a specific sound, it's more of an approach and a sincerity in what you're doing. That idea has been lost over the years which is unfortunate. They didn't sound exactly like the Sex Pistols or whatever, but that was the point. Most of the early American punk bands didn't sound like each other.
@thewaxmuseum6 жыл бұрын
The early Misfits material was very far removed from the sound of punk which was well established at the time. The band didn't have a guitar player...just the organ which is light years away from what "punk rock" was in 1977....Their early material was very 50's/60's oriented with an almost "Doors" style to it....It wasn't until they got Franche and started playing songs like Bullet that they went into the "punk" style.....so i always wondered how they billed themselves in those early days of '77 if they were playing material that sounded more like the doors than the sex pistols.....
@cardigansarecool6 жыл бұрын
Dark Ride Films Well you're right about that, btw I meant no disrespect personally, this is a fantastic interview. I guess what I was getting at is that the fact that they didn't even have a guitar player is the very essence of punk. I feel like even though punk was established by 77, it still was kind of still open. Television didn't sound like the Ramones at all but it was still a part of the same thing. I mean Suicide was a seminal punk band and they didn't even have drums! Let alone a guitar. I always thought Glenn must've been into them based on Cough/Cool. This really is all semantics though, but it's an interesting subject.
@thewaxmuseum6 жыл бұрын
Oh I agree with you totally!! I just always wondered how they looked at themselves at that time...did they consider themselves a "punk" band or did they think of themselves as something different.....Cough/Cool is a good example but there's also quite a few unreleased '77 songs that show them in a totally different light being more of a doorsy-bluesy kind of band as opposed to a punk band......Their history is so secretive so it's fascinating to me to go over every single detail lol
