It almost sounds as if The Real McCoy borrowed the bassline and modified it for "Another Night."

I was 16 in 1982 when I first heard of Talk Talk probably because I was at college with the bass players younger brother, He took my 45 in single home and got his brother to sign it for me, Now here i am aged 53 and still listening to Talk Talk on an almost daily basis. So yes he succeeded.

YES! Synths are magic

Its not just the synths, its the style of the music/structure/arrangement that is the magic and the vocals. Today you have synths over everything and drum machines and samplers BUT the magic isn't there.

I think 80s artists were telling a story within the music structure.

Absolutely agree .. What a fantastic time to be alive . Hopefully we will wake from our slumber soon , realise we cant keep abusing our home planet , and become better people . I get the feeling Music will play a huge part in our mass raising of awareness to what we are expecting , the Christ consciousness , we are capable of so much more , we just need to realise it and take a bold step forward , before it,s too late. Love is all we need. Literally. . It's that easy , but seems so foreign now , Can't wait for someone to take the first step to a Better , brighter , more connected loving Future. Love Peace Always

Listen to the 'Colour of Spring' album. It has some of their best tunes on it...and for sheer 80s loud, Simple Minds - 'Sparkle in the Rain' album. I used to drive across London in my two-blue tone Mini with the dodgy heating and matchboxes protecting the uncovered ends of wires from touching other parts of the car, listening to Simple Minds and Echo & the Bunnymen at full tit from the 80s car stereo.

The 80s were quite the time to be alive in the west in many ways. I was a young kid then but I have a weird cultural echo of it in my memory, the way I suppose many people remember the zeitgeist of their childhood decade without many of the details, until comments like yours come along to fill them in.

I remember this mix from a famous club we all went to in the 80s. Packed almost every night. This was played a lot.
