Lyrics:
Such a shame to believe in escape
A life on every face
And that's a change
'Til I'm finally left with an eight
Tell me to relax, I just stare
Maybe I don't know if I should change
A feeling that we share
It's a shame
(Such a shame)
Number me with rage, it's a shame
(Such a shame)
Number me in haste (such a shame)
This eagerness to change
It's a shame
The dice decide my fate
And that's a shame
In these trembling hands
My faith tells me to react, I don't care
Maybe it's unkind that I should change
A feeling that we share
It's a shame
(Such a shame)
Number me with rage, it's a shame
(Such a shame)
Number me in haste (such a shame)
This eagerness to change
Such a shame
Tell me to relax, I just stare
Maybe I don't know if I should change
A feeling that we share
It's a shame
(Such a shame)
Number me with rage, it's a shame
(Such a shame)
Number me in haste, it's a shame
(Such a shame)
Write it across my name
(Such a shame)
Number me with rage
This eagerness to change
Such a shame

Look at what younger folk have had to put up with for the last 20+yrs. It's a shame and it scares me somewhat. My old-dad would say: "We won't be listening to all this rubbish in years to come." Not true here. This is spirited, emotive, timeless & evocative.

This amazing singer is Mark Hollis. Born in the UK in 1955, he died in 2019, only 64 years old. What a pity this talent is no more among us. I became a huge fan of Talk-Talk in 1982. Amazing music is created each day. On Spottify alone, about 60 000 new tracks are uploaded daily. We can't listen to it all, anymore. The mainstream in the 80s was very "main," and exposure was fairly limited to radio, TV and the stuff you could get at record outlets. I still love this song, being an 80s kid. But I can't concede to the generalization that creativity and mastery of art was limited to certain period. It's your opinion, and that's fine. No problems there.

Ya, that's me too. I'm definitely a minor chord girl, and what does it for me is the background vocals in the chorus. They're haunting and are done in that minor passing chord progression behind the lead in such a way that it naturally sends chills up the spine. It makes the song feel very heavy, foreboding, and deep, that combination, which when you watch the video makes it even more interesting because the video is so whimsical and light-hearted. Such an awesome group and this is my favorite song of theirs.

Lyrics : Such a shame to believe in escape. 'A life on every face' But that's a change, until I'm finally left with an '8'. Tell me to relax - I just stare. Maybe I don't know if I should change a feeling that we share. It's a shame (such a shame) Number me with rage It's a shame (such a shame) Number me in haste (such a shame) This eagerness to change It's a shame The dice decide my fate that's a shame In these trembling hands my faith tells me to react "I don't care" Maybe it's unkind if I should change a feeling that we share. It's a shame (such a shame) Number me with rage It's a shame (such a shame) Number me in haste (such a shame) This eagerness to change Such a shame Tell me to relax - I just stare. Maybe I don't know if I should change a feeling that we share. It's a shame (such a shame) Number me with rage It's a shame (such a shame) Number me in haste It's a shame (such a shame) Write across my name (such a shame) This eagerness to change Such a shame
