This album really hints at where they’d go next with the Spirit of Eden which was hugely important in the development of post-rock as well as influential on bands like Radiohead. (And it’s widely regarded as a masterpiece.) You noted a couple of times the use of space and that is key to Spirit as well as their final album Laughing Stock. The lead, Mark Hollis, also put out one lovely solo album and then retired. He sadly passed away in 2019 at 64.

One of my favourite albums by an incredible band. Their later albums are go very post rock, jazz and experimental. Well worth listening to. Cheers!

Thank you for reviewing this album. The band is most famous for their influence on post rock, on the two albums after this one. I recommend The Golden Hour by Firewater.

A Walk Across The Rooftops by The Blue Nile is a great album that I think meets the Art Pop genre.
