I wanted to talk about my Quicksilver Sport Ultralight airplane so you can see what is done to control the airplane on the ground and in the air.

Finally, someone who actually shows people what they want to know, thank you.

I owned an MX but made a HUGE improvement to the flight characteristics. I change the engine location from Under the root tube to ABOVE the root tube. You just have to flip the prop reduction system to the top as well and cut a section of wing for the mounting plates. Very little air flow change. What did it do for me? 1. MUCH quieter with the muffler about the wing. 2. Much quicker turn rates. 3. Easier starts with plugs about the oil that can settle on upside down engines. 4. Longer plug life. 5. Ability to shift the engine for better balance. 6. No engine in the way for head injuries. 7. Better looking aircraft. Overall, it made the plane perform so much better. I also changed the airfoil (battens) and shifted the % of lift aft which ended up increasing my cruise from 52 to 68. I just lost 3 knots for landing so it was a great trade off. I also made new wing wires and removed some dihedral which didn't change the stability at all but made cross wind landings SO MUCH EASIER. I ended up with a 503 engine and IVO Prop and the thing climbed at 1500fpm with a 190 lb pilot. Nice plane once all the fixes are in. Have a good one people.

If you pull the stick back, you go up, if you pull the stick further back, - you go down. Ha. That is a really cool airplane you have there. I’d like to try one.

Thank you for your excellent explanation about the different parts and their function, No one has explained them like you. I live in the west coast of florida next to Tampa and Clearwater. I have been trying to get ultralite lessons in this are but have not been able to find anyone giving this lessons. If yu know of anyone please let me know.

I don't know of anyone who gives training. You can always take flying lessons in a real airplane. Or teach yourself by crow hopping.

Well produced and informative! Narrative is excellent, clear, sparse and well paced. Hopefully helpful comments: the background view of the plane is a little cluttered. A “3 point belt” (I looked on Google) seems to mean a single shoulder strap, like a car, where your two shoulder straps would make a “4 point belt”. I liked your description of when and how you use the instruments, especially when they are not used or just used in some limited fashion (airspeed mostly by wind feel, for instance).

Thanks for watching my videos. The wire you are talking about is my coax cable running up the wire to my radio antenna. The radio and antenna are not affixed to the airplane in this video.

I forgot to add one thing. With the engine on top, the cooling was better from increased air velocity and volume---no pilot in the way. LOL

It would be nice to have the engine on top of the wing. Early two place Quicksilver ultralights had that configuration. That would get the engine noise away from my head.

She needs a bath!!! But looks great. I gotta get a longer brake cable for the one side so I can mount my lever on my stick. Vortex generators make mine almost able to fly at 25mph airspeed. Makes for short take-off and landing roll outs. I also only use my harness as a lap belt so i can trim it out by leaning forward or back. I cut the tail skid off and popped a Challenger tail wheel on for more angle of attack so the VG's can work. I'll never get rid of mine. Everyone that has, regretted it.

You are correct about washing my ultralight. I keep it in a building with a dirt floor. That doesn't help to keep it clean.

@ShahJee-ik9ej when I fly to an area where I will need to get gas to fly home. I mix gas and oil in the jugs then pour it into the gas tank which is on the root tube over my head.

I have the same plane but haven't yet flown it because I haven't gotten training nor do I have a barn it will fit in. I'm currently flying a Powered Parachute but want to get the quick out next year. At what speed do you take off? What's the stall speed and cruising speed? I take off, fly and land at 33mph. I enjoy watching your flying videos!

Congratulations on owning a Quicksilver ultralight. You will love the ability to fly a fixed wing airplane. I have a video of me flying with a group of para motors. They look like fun also. My airspeed indicator is a tube with a floating disk so I am not sure how accurate it is, but I take off at 35mph and fly at 45 mph. The specific details can be found on the manufacturer website. www.quicksilveraircraft.com/MX-SPORT-Spec.php

So, this aircraft doesn't use flaps for slower landings and takeoffs? I see some ultralites do use them and the pilots rave about them.
@ultralightpilot99
@ultralightpilot99 9 ай бұрын
The Quicksilver MXL sport does not have flaps. The wing design makes it fly slow. It's a great ultralight to fly.

You have beautiful bird. Which area you fly, also do you know anyone who fly Quicksilver in New York ?
@ultralightpilot99
@ultralightpilot99 Жыл бұрын
I fly around the Benton Pa airport area, North Eastern PA. I don't know of anyone else in my area who fly's an ultralight. I am not familiar with anyone from NY who fly's. There are a few two seat ultralights around my area that were converted to experimental aircraft, way back when that certification path was available.

I just bought the same bird that needs rebuilt (tubes, cables and skin replaced). Tell me about your radio and antenna setup. I’ll want to keep in communication with traffic and I aspire to fly into some Delta for food.
@ultralightpilot99

I use a hand held radio that I clip to my seat belt and wear a headset. The push to talk button is attached to the control stick with a velcro strap. The antenna is mounted far out the wing with coax cable following the wing wire. I run resistor sparkplugs to try to reduce static. Wind noise and motor noise make it difficult for others to hear me but I can listen to other pilots to know where they are and what they are doing.
