I find the idea of a eco-friendly coffee pad machine amusing. The production and the transport need so much energy that I can't believe that the recycling would do any significant benefit to the environment.

Done and done! Funded, can't wait until this is on the market. I love the convenience of the Keurig, and we have the use-your-own-coffee insert to avoid the waste of the K-cups, but washing those little pieces is just as inconvenient. I hope your first batch sells out in under an hour! Good luck.

I pledged! I think it's a great solution. I've always felt guilty using the cups until my mom started using them for planting, but even still we can only use so many. Really hope this works out

I've wanted a Keurig for years now but they're expensive and I couldn't justify buying one. I finally got one and a week later so in the news how bad the K-cups since they aren't recyclable. Being someone that recycles I can't explain the every time I make coffee. I plan to back your kick starter and spread the work too.

We I'n Belgium have a single use coffee machine that makes amazing coffee, but the best part is that the coffee grind is actually inside a single use paper container, it basically combines the coffee filter and ground into one, with the same if not better result then your American so called K-cups, it's kind cool really

He's probably talking about these: s.s-bol.com/imgbase0/imagebase/large/FC/7/2/5/3/9000000010993527.jpg You place the paperbag in the V shaped top, throw in the coffee (which ever brand you like), pour some water into the side container and you're done. Enough to make you 10 cups of coffee.

Good for you for addressing this problem! This is why I've refused to buy one of these things (I use Melitta Drip method). Now, if you can fix the disposable diaper problem....(I used cloth on my kids and it worked just fine!) LOVE your videos!!!

What's wrong with the tried and true drip coffee maker method? Mine has a timer so the coffee is ready when I wake up, it allows me to make between 2 and 12 cups, it shuts off after 2 hours, and the best part is the grounds and the paper filter go in the compost bin. And I can use whatever brand of coffee I want. Seems you're re-inventing a wheel that doesn't need to be re-invented.

***** 9.8 billion K-cups last year speak for themselves. Their popularity is increasing exponentially and the only way to fight convenience is with something equally convenient... Until the K-Cups become recyclable... in 2020!

***** But a lot of people don't drunk 2 to 12 cups. Single cup brewing systems are a lot more convenient for people like me (college student), even though I prefer the drip coffee maker.

***** I used to have a machine like yours. BUT, I spent 2 hrs worth of expensive electricity keeping it warm, even worse if then for some reason didn't drink more coffee. Electricity is dirty to make, mostly. We don't compost, for lots of reasons, and neither do a lot of people in cities. For $9.99 I bought four refillable plastic K-cup compatible and guess what? I use all kinds of flavors in it. It makes hot water for tea faster than the microwave. It heats in 45 seconds, so no wasting electricity leaving it on, and then if I want coffee at hour 3, having to make yet more, while maybe tossing the stuff that didn't get drunk, or, god forbid, wasting more power microwaving it so it'll be hot but taste like sludge. I do like the idea of recycling the cups.... will have to look into that, because we do use them, as well.

I prefer to pre brew my coffee. I buy instant coffe, put it in a glass bottle with sugar and milk (20gr of coffee, 100gr of sugar and the rest of milk for a 1lt bottle). Then shake it to mix it. I leave it on the fridge and since i like it cold i don't even have to warm it. The only problem is that i don't drink coffee every day and if i leave it for too long the milk goes bad (too long is about 5 days. Could be more, could be less. I've never measured the time)

Fortunately, we don't have Keurigs in Europe. Unfortunately, we do have Nespresso, Caffissimo, Dolce Gusto, Tassimo and others though :-( I guess, with Senseo I'm sort of on the safe side - the paper filter that these pads are made out of should be compostable just like other normal coffee filters. At least as long as I buy only normal coffee pads, instead of cappuchino and whatever else they have (which again contains plastic in some cases).

I just use a reusable filtered k-cup. you can buy them at wally world and target and such. But, this is a VARY good message. ^_^ I can make a WHOLE thing of coffee last me like 2 months. and there's 3 adults in my house. I do like where this is going though. I always try to find out how to reuse and make things useful when people find them UN-USEFUL. ^_^ Good luck with this kick starter!

I went to the Podcycle Kickstarter site and the Podcycle site and I cannot find any details on how it works, what it actually does. What someone needs to do with it if they have it. You may have a lot more backers if there were more details about it available so we know what it's about and how we are to use it to make a cup recyclable.

(not the #7 plastic, there was a whole article about the plastic itself being an 8-layered plastic, rendering non-recyclable, and the inventor wishes that he'd never thought of the kcup)

I'm not trying to knock the idea, just curious... Don't they already have these? I use something similar called My K-Cup Reusable Coffee filter. It lets me use my own coffee in something that fits into the K-Cup machine.

I don't drink coffee so I'm not contributing to the garbage heap that way, but I was eating a pudding, and it's also plastic and foil. Wonder if your podcycle thing would work on instant pudding packs, too?
