The Knipex tool can be used to cut sideways through the ear in order to remove the clamp. You don't need to do anything with the little tab. I bought the front and side tool because I thought it would be useful to have the flexibility, and I wasn't wrong!

Nice explanation. Your delivery is engaging "You gotta squeeze it like you got a pair" (hehe) and "We are squeeeezed". You sir are a natural presenter/announcer. It would be fun to hear you do the news, weather or the financials. (My day job is lecturer and instructor in presentation skills, so these are fairly authorised comments here.) Excellent presentation! The CV joints started leaking grease on my Chev S-10. I cut the factory clamps off and installed the common CV Boot Clamp, but it continued to leak. So, I tried the Oetiker ear clamp and it worked great. Haven't seen any grease leaking from the CV joint for over a year. I would love to know the difference in pressure from different clamps.

Nice intro to these clamps and for the 2-way version of the crimping tool. The only thing I've found looking at other videos is that you only need to squeeze hard enough so that the clamp is visibly embedded into the hose (watching how hard the squeezing is here I thought the clamp might somehow 'lock in' by crimping the ear far enough, but there's no such mechanism).

That’s not the factory recognized or recommend method of crimping Otekier clamps my friend. You are supposed to leave at least 2mm gap between the shoulder .

Those clamps are commonly called Oetiker clamps, after the Swedish company that makes them. There is a cutter available that cuts off the crimped part, so as to not damage the hose or fitting by twisting it while trying to pry open the lock.

Are screw type clamp failures that common? I have been wrenching on stuff since I was a pre teen, in my mid 40's now. Other than buggering up a few super cheap import clamps during installation I have never had one fail. I can not think of a single time that I clamped something with a screw clamp and years later the clamp broke or the hose somehow escaped the clamp.

Cheap ones definitely break or strip out. Old ones rust and break. My 67 Mustang had a few you could just grab with your hand and pull off they were so rusted.

@@TheStruggleville Yes, the steel ones rust badly, but 100% stainless steel ones, clamp & screw, are available at big box hardwares. I found the easy to rust ones at auto part stores & did not buy.

Worm drive clamps are not capable or may not sufficiently seal small diameter pipe . Oetiker clamps work very well and efficiently seal properly .

Yes these are way better than screw type clamps found on most cars. I had to find this out for myself when a factory location and factory confirmed by part numbers, a heater return hose on my bmw would not stop leaking. I went as far as even replacing the costly and labor intensive hose twice until i realized the problem is my shit luck and the hose clamps pinching and pulling to one side and creating a gap on the end. In most water lines I find that the coolant itself creates the sealing barrier more than the worm clamp does itself the coolant forms a glue like seal in some cases. But not to get too distracted by my rant what I found out was I needed to ditch the oem clamp and run one of these oetiker style ear clamps that forms a 360degree squeeze. Some of these clamps have a holding force of 2000 newtons!!! So ya if you don’t want leaks start doing your project cars using these clamps 😊

I couldn't possibly concur with m'learn'd colleagues opinion further. These can be whacked open with a straight pick/spike and a good set of square clean vice jaws...if you need to. They can even be reused it necessary. Jubilees are wank, bulky and amateurish. I swear the bit under the worm hardly bites at all. Double Ears are Boss.

@@JustinVodden you cannot change your sex with emotions, desires, and imagination; nor with hormones. Sex is encoded in the DNA in every cell in the body. Trans men = women with an inherent flaw in their psychological makeup. And sure there are strong women, but the bell curve for their strength distribution is shifted left to that of males. Don't get caught up in postmodernism; it will lead you astray from reality.
