I highly recommend the whole Stop Making Sense film (not necessarily for a reaction, but just to watch it). It is fantastic start to finish, the Talking Heads (and singer David Byrne) were never more at the top of their game, and it was directed by Jonathan Demme, of all people, who directed Silence of the Lambs. And Tina Weymouth is one of the all time great bassists, certainly of the 1980s.

I must reiterate the ONLY way to experience this film is from beginning to end, as the introduction of the instruments are layered one at a time for each subsequent song. David enters a bare stage with just one microphone stand waiting for him and his acoustic guitar. He presents a small BoomBox and presses "Play" on the cassette tape, which lays down the percussive track for "Psycho Killer". Slowly, one by one, the rest of the Band joins him, while stagehands dressed in black methodically assemble the rest of the equipment and instruments. The Drum kit is rolled out on platform, and eventually, the entire ensemble is present to deliver an unforgettable show that now belongs to the ages! Yes, it is best to view this Film in its proper sequence to appreciate the genius of it in it's entirety!✌🍁✌

If you’re doing Talking Heads. You have to do “This must be the place” Trust me. It’ll be worth it.

You have to watch the entire "Stop Making Sense" concert movie and David Byrne's movie "True Stories." Do reactions! You'll love them, totally!

Check out "Life During Wartime" live from this same concert. He just starts running laps around the stage. Great song, too.

My wife and I saw this in a movie theater near University of Pittsburgh around 1984. EVERYONE in the theater on their feet dancing; I had never seen anything like it FOR A CONCERT MOVIE!!! Did the funk meter surprise you? That black guitarist is Alex Weir from the Brothers Johnson (Get the Funk Out Ma Face) and the cat on keys is Bernie Worrell from Parliament Funkadelic. Tina's baseline is absolutely amazing - in fact there are just no weak links in this band. BTW, if you watch the entire movie, you don't get a glimpse of the audience until near the very end - this was deliberate. They wanted the viewers to make up their own mind on the music's impact. When they finally show the crowd dancing and going nuts it is a satisfying pay-off. So glad you enjoyed this!!!!!

Yes! I'm so glad you're doing a video from this Concert! The *whole* show is amazing!!!

Yes David Byrne calls it the Big Suit. Sadly, Talking Heads split up with a lot of animosity in the early 90s, and have only performed together one time since then, for the Rock N Roll HOF induction

Woooo! Well done Jamal! Thank you for doing this reaction! As soon as I heard the beat I knew THE BIG SUIT was going to make an appearance and was waiting for your reaction to that too! Glad you enjoyed the music as much as the video! 👩🏽

How could you not be entertained by this band. You can imagine what it did to our heads, as young teenagers when this stuff was hitting the airwaves… 🤯

Your joy in watching this was infectious and brought me back to a time when I listened to 'Stop Making Sense' soundtrack non-stop over 30 years ago. It's been said often here and in your other Talking Heads videos that you should watch the 'Stop Making Sense' film in its entirety. I echo that sentiment, particularly given your affinity for live recordings. Thanks for the reaction!

Nice one brother, that smile on your face! This video made my day. One my all time favourite songs, and this is the best version of it. Perfection!

David Byrne just released a project with Spike Lee called American Utopia. Perhaps do a special reaction to that?

Jamel, this was actually filmed in the early 1980s. I went to watch the "Stop Making Sense" concert movie when it came out in I think about 1983. the sound quality is superb! It was one of, if not THE first digital recorded live concerts. I recommend reacting to their cover of Al Green's "Take Me To The River" from this same movie!

I had to watch again, Jamel. This is the most fun I've seen you have during a reaction lol. Keep on keepin great music alive!

Omg- watching you find the funk, fun, and brilliance of this concert movie just makes me feel this intense intangible joy. This is a truly timeless moment of musical genius and I adore watching someone feel it so deeply. You made my stressful day in the trenches a little brighter.

Sadly, they are not still going. David Byrne has flat-out refused to do any kind of reunion, to the point where I was ASTOUNDED to learn he consented to perform with them when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That was in '02. As for the big suit, I'm pretty sure that's just extra performance art. XD Other Stop Making Sense essentials: "Life During Wartime" and "Psycho Killer." (Yes, again, it has a completely different flavor to the album/weird demo cuts.) Tina Weymouth is a goddess among bass players and I will hear no argument.

I just found you through your David Bowie reactions, as I was listening to Young Americans and your video was recommended. I was going to suggest Talking Heads because they're another of my favorite bands. So glad to see you already checked them out! I love your whole attitude and vibe!

Poll: Raise your hand if every time Jamel says "Let's jump right into it" your right arm automatically mimics his. Also, how many would LOVE to see Jamel in a Zoot Suit, reacting to Cherry Poppin' Daddies "Zoot Suit Riot?"

Stop Making Sense is my favorite concert film ever. There isn't a wasted moment, or a less than stellar rendition of any of the songs. And David Byrne just makes me happy every time I see him behind the mic. I know I'm going to to have a smile of delight on my face for the next several minutes as I dance and sing along. I'm so glad you loved this!
