Talking Heads - Houses In Motion (12" Mix)

Ripped directly from the 12" single. This version has a different mix, and an extra verse, which was omitted from the album version, but still used in live shows.
The B-side is Air, from Fear of Music, and Houses In Motion (Live), from The Name of this Band is Talking Heads.
I am only releasing this here, as there is no other version available on KZfaq, or to officially purchase it (to the best of my knowledge).

I prefer this version to the album version. And it's as good as anything else on the album. Too bad there is no official release on CD or mp3.

yep I've listened a couple times, it's a different take all right - tempo a teensy bit up, some drier sounds, no horn part/different solo, different first and last verses - that is quite a find!

+tubebeaver1 The tempo could be due to an inconsistency in my record player, i.e. not rotating at a precise speed. Also the horns were overbubbed so they could have easily been taken off. I have a feeling this version was mixed when David and Brian mastered the album away from Compass Point. It sounds very Eno-y more so than the album version

There's a photo on Instagram of an advert from Uk's SMASH HITS mag which says 'Re Recorded Version' on it. I'm amazed this version isn't better known it's great. Also there appears to have been 2 mixes of this mix; one Stereo, one Mono according to Discogs website. x

www.flickr.com/photos/51106326@N00/5330091177/in/album-72157625762097782/ It does *say* rerecorded, but it doesn't add up. Not to me at least. The vocals have the exactly same inflection. I can run them at the exact same time in Audacity and it is obvious there is no difference apart from a remix. Perhaps it is referring to the B-side which is a live recording of the track?

It's great to hear this, but I think you forgot to apply RIAA EQ and that's why it's all treble and no bass. Message me and I'll send you a fixed version.

Mike Erskine-Kellie it's on The Name Of This Band is Talking Heads. The version on the single is edited down and available on older releases. The most up to date version of the album has the track unedited

Thanks, Ross. Are you sure it is the same version as the one on The Name of this Band...? I have the 12 inch here (I just don't have a turntable to transfer it to mp3) and it has always sounded to my ears like a different version. I could likely be wrong, but I gotta say, it sounds like a different version.

@@MrMEKELLIE Different live performance. I've had this 12" single since it was originally released. The album version, remix, and the b-side's live version are regulars on my playlists. Just got the expanded version of "The Name Of This Band Is..." tonight, mostly for its version of this song and the other "Remain In Light" tracks. Definitely a different performance. Came here hoping to find the recording date and location of this live b-side that I've played so much.
