I was there. Every band that night performed the best concert I have ever seen, still. What an amazing experience the US Festival was. Steve Wozniac did this, and for that I will forever be grateful.

I was there too, always right up front whatever it took to work my way to the front area, $37.50 total for three days of concerts included the camping fee, had a '63 truck and camper, wild time, hot, fire hose cannons to cool us down. When we all loved one another in the old days.

The Beat, B52s, Talking Heads, and the mighty headliner, The Police... and that’s only some of the acts playing that day and night. That is what I call an outstanding night out!

38 years ago, right about now, I was dancing to the Talking Heads... and about 36 hours or so before seeing the Grateful Dead for the 1st time... It was probably my 10th Talking Heads show! I think they closed out the night, though maybe The Police did? I forget who was bigger at the time. Also that day: Gang Of Four, The Ramones, English Beat, Oingo Boingo, B-52's and Flock of Seagulls.

We were 23 and just moved to the Bay Area for work after graduation from University of Kansas. Hubs was a long-term Dead head and we’d been listening to all these groups for years. We were with a group of 10ish (every day) and we got separated. I spent much of that day with the Hells Angels who were the kindest folks I ever met. Hands down. Found our group before long, but will never forget the hospitality of these guys.

The Police closed the day. I know cuz, I was so stoned and burned out from the heat that me and my friends crashed out before the Police's set was over.

I was at this festival...left on Monday, drove thru the desert to Vegas, got a license at about 1 a.m & was married on the 7th in the middle of Hoover Dam. Together 32 hours until I went back east to sell r/r stuff & he got a ship between LA & Honolulu. Memories...

Saw them this year (1982) at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium (NYC) and Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Saw them a total of eleven times, but the NYC show that year was the best of the lot. Look up the NY Times review titled Rock: Talking Heads Get a Night to Remember. Pull quote: "The expanded Talking Heads used to sound like a quartet plus guests, despite their exemplary musicianship and enthusiasm. On Saturday, they were a thoroughly integrated, astonishingly tight eight-piece band. With the help of a crystal-clear sound system and an adoring crowd that stayed on its feet throughout the concert, the eight Talking Heads gave a magnificent performance." Jerry Harrison has mentioned that Forest Hills in 1982 might be the best concert they ever played.

Saw this tour @ an obscure theater in Staten Island, N.Y. called "The Paramount". All I can say is that it was one of the BEST live shows I've seen in my life. They were @ the height of their playing skills. The theater was an art-deco movie house that was newly cganged into a dance club/concert venue. We couldn't stay in our seats, as the whole place was jumping like David Byrne.

I was THERE right next to the stage and I love this---video not necessary for me. I just remember that I'd been an indifferent Heads fan but this set they did at the US Fest made a total convert out of me. They were so tight. The audio here is good; I hate YT uploads with shit sound quality. Thank you for this!

I was there. Thanks for posting this! If only the video were available. This show was in support of the live album "The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads," and before they recorded "Speaking In Tongues," so it's sort of an odd moment in their history. I've had an audience tape of the show in my collection for quite some time, but I didn't record it. This recording is a lot better but there's a bit more background chatter. The song "Mind" was a surprise, and I really like that they played "Slink" from Jerry's great solo album "The Red and the Black." I was also thrilled at the time with the songs from "The Catherine Wheel," Byrne's great soundtrack for Twyla Tharpe's play of the same name. Day 1 of the first US Festival in 1982: The Police Talking heads B-52s The English Beat Oingo Bingo The Ramones Gang Of Four

Yeah, 1982 is an odd year for the band, touring and doing promo for a live album. It's also the last world tour of the whole band. And I agree with you, so cool that they played a bunch of solo & side projects songs live. Tom Tom Club was performing as the opening act for most of this tour (but not US Festival, obviously ^^). That was the golden time for new wave acts... I'm sure there is some footage in the vaults somewhere, waiting to surface... Almost all of the shows from the friday night were tapped and filmed, it would be surprising there is no footage for Talking Heads, who were the headline act with The Police...
