In 1977, local radio was dribbling out Aerosmith and ZZ Topp and Kansas etc. Then these guys come along, and people were like...The Hell is this? They were confused. I was confused. Didn't know what to make of The Talking Heads. But they persisted. By the second or third album, I was on board. I realized they were waaaaay ahead of what was going on musically. In Paul Zollo’s book , it is said that “Psycho Killer” was the first song Frantz, Weymouth, and Byrne composed together and that it was written “entirely as a joke." To this day Byrne wonders why people love it.” (p. 495) But they do! Apparently, Byrne, had been listening to Alice Cooper and wanted to write his own "really rude" song, so this is that song. As a big fan of Alice Cooper way back in 1971 for a little while, I understand why he did want to write such a song. Dark side music certainly has its own appeal.

Talking Heads started at the Rhode Island School of Design and got noticed at CBGB'S in the early days of the punk movement - but they were never punk. They're more of an art-school project. Which isn't as crazy as it sounds; John Lennon started his band which finally became the Beatles while in art school, and many other British bands were started by art school students.

Why does everyone always react to the wrong version of the song?
@steroberts3 жыл бұрын
Came here to comment this. So many reaction channels choose this version over the 77 version, which is far superior. Even better, they should use the Stop Making Sense version.

Maybe because this is the version that has 120 million views on KZfaq, while the version you’re talking about has less than a million..

@@steroberts I agree. Stop Making Sense is superior to the studio counterparts of the songs performed. With the exception from Psycho Killer and Once in A Lifetime, I always listen to the Stop Making Sense recordings of these songs just because the are the ones I grew up with. I do love the live versions of these songs though also. There is a particular charm to Byrne’s acoustic solo performance of Psycho Killer, and the live energy of course

This is a demo version and not the final released song off the album "77" and not the best version of this song. You should review the album version a bit more rhythmic and then do life during wartime. LOL I saw these guys in clubs in NYC before they made it. Trust me I tell you no lies.

Talking Heads are quite the visual group. You should experience it.

Qu'est-ce que c'est? The live version of this is arguably better.

I seriously don't understand how this demo version has so many more views than the actual official song. What the hell, youtube.

Glad to see you are getting into Talking Heads. Anything from the album Remain In Light is highly recommended, especially "The Great Curve" and "Houses In Motion". Keep up the amazing videos
