A premium tire from a season or two ago (but of current manufacture). You get a fantastic tire with the resultant reduction in price brought on by manufacturers rolling out the ´latest and greatest´ just about every year. In my case, I run S21 Battlaxx. Fantastic performance, more than I can exploit, and I pay about 60% of the current S23. It´s the way to go.

I used Maxxis Supermaxx Sport sp, the grip level on track was so good just didnt like the way the bike rolled into the corner as i'm used to the bike falling into the corner with the likes of bridgestone. If they had that bridgestone feel i would definitely use them.

Metzeler Roadtec for the wet and cold, Dunlop for touring/longevity and Bridgestone s22/23 for making the local streets unsafe. That being said, I dont think you can go wrong with any modern tire assuming you choose a reputable manufacturer and dont have any special requirements beyond track days.

Bandit 1250 full Dale Walker stage 2, upgraded front and rear suspension. All year round everyday riding with weekend rides, canyons, mountains, , with a pillion, and top case......Road 6 GT. Incredible in all road conditions. And when it has lost grip, as in a slide, it's very gradual with lots of feel early on, easy to make adjustments.

Awesome bike! Great tire choice. I bought a V-Strom 1K from one of Dale's fabricators (with an Arrow and 17" Holeshot) who used it to prototype some parts. Great Road 6s on it. Good guys there, all of them!

i ride 320-340 days a year in any and all conditions (rain, snow, ice, typhoons) 40kms per day, and i use michelin Road 4,5,6 on my CB400SB, and they grip onto everything. Especially Road 5's are super dependable. a few times i lost grip on washed out mud or black ice in the corners and the tire regains grip VERY quickly. love them!

If you aren’t doing track days, Michelin Road 5/6’s are all you need for the road. I do not purposely ride in the wet and get my knee down regularly. These tyres are phenomenal on the road. The mileage you’ll get from these will surpass everything! Used on a 1290 Superduke R.

Love Pirelli for track days due to the profile (and therefore quick tip in). Before I moved to slicks on my S1000RR, I loved the Supercorsa SP - phenomenal but very fast wearing on a liter bike. Diablo Rosso Corsa IV are almost as good, but last significantly longer and provide excellent value for money. On the road bike (MT-10SP) I love the Michelin Road 6. I’ve done touring and fast twisties, wet and dry, hot and cold, and they are almost the perfect tyre for this setup.

1200 miles ago put a pair of Metzeler Z6 on my Honda CBR1100XX-2. It is the first time I have used these on my Super blackbird and I am very happy with them indeed, wet and dry they stick like glue in conditions where other tyres I've used in the past have had slips. For any Super Blackbird rider who has not tried the Metzelers Z6 try them, they are old&cheap but boy I really do rate them highly for the Super Blackbird (2002).

You guys know your stuff. Great discussion and I cannot disagree with any of it. Modern tires are great and on the road, we really get away with most of them, as pointed out. On the ADV thing, I'd consider the newer 80/20 tires to be quite good on the road but I would ride them fully on-road. They're not too noisy, have good longevity, and have much better grip than I'd expected. Currently have Pirelli Rally STR on a 1290 ADV and they're stupendous on the road. I've seen people take them off road, but I wouldn't, especially not on a 1290. When we start talking about off-road with a big bike, I truly wouldn't bother with anything more road-oriented than 50/50. They're still better on-road than they should be, and as the presenters mentioned, it's pretty sketchy being off road on a big bike with street tires. You want maximum traction with these giant ADV bikes off road.

Michelin Pilot road 3 & 4 (4th pair). Very stable, predictable in both wet & dry conditions. 8-10k mileage a pair, with both tyres wearing evenly. Riding mix, tootle, fast, touring, thrash around the alps etc. The front tyre seems to have a taller / steeper profile which makes the steering feel more precise & it seems easier to place the bike exactly where you want too with these tyres. Overall I really rate them. I might look at others though, always pays to be open minded. But, the PR's are very good tbh. ZX9R 99 had it since 02 75k. Great vid by the way 👍.

Bridgestone S22 and now s23 are the sweet spot for road riding IMO. The rear suffers a little in terms of grip compared to more sporty tyres like Rosso IV Corsa but the front provides better feel and great grip. On an R9T I get about 4000-5000km on the rear before hitting limitors on the sides of the tyre - centre holds up longer. Front holds up closer to 6000-8000km.

Dunlop Trailmax Mission on a LC GS. On the heavy side, expensive and a bit noisy after 80kph but man is it a good tyre! Brilliant on road, nice grip, brilliant off road except in a deep sand which I, as it happens, ride quite often. It can do it but you have to work it to keep steady pace. And I think it will last at least 15k km if not much more. I was contemplating between Mission and Raid and since I do a fair bit of on road riding I think I would strip them down much faster then Missions. So far I'm very pleased with them. Cheers!

I ride everyday in Lisbon, Portugal (good weather with the sometimes PLENTY and VERY USUAL rain in the worse months). Went from Bridgstone (the popular cheap sports like BT-016) to Michelin (Road 5) to Continental (RoadAttack 3 and 4). Sport Touring tyres just made sense for me at some point. Never had big problems with any but the Continentals... don't want to leave them anytime soon. Don't remember a slip, a spin, a slide, a scare. And all tyres last with me so these do too. At the moment, I'm team Continental all the way. Ps: I have a 2011 Hornet, if that matters.

Glad you like them, but to me they're garbage. Had them on both supermoto and car and I find them low quality. The ones I had on the car really vibrated a lot, even though I tried balancing them many times. They were so bad I thought the rims were bent. A set o Pirelli proved that the rims are perfect. Nothing but issues with Continentals. From poor grip in the cold to noise and balancing issues.

@@nickho4320I have been running Dunlop Sportsmarts and they have been great. I’m an adventurous sport rider, love a quick steering tyre with stability at kneedown lean and these have been spot on. I have Rosso Corsa lV’s on my 2010 Multistrada for the same reason and I’m going to try these on the Tuono next if it stops raining for longer than two days at a time as otherwise they will last until next year!!!!

@@user-zk6xy7ml9u I found the OEM Dunlops ok when the suns out and temp is up but did notice the odd skip / slide in the corners when accelerating out of a corner. Defo going to change them out for something. Looks like the Michelin might be the best option.

@@RideSafeNSmart Thanks for the comment. I will have a look around for a fitted price. I see the Michelins are very popular (must be a reason why!) and seen them fitted to allsorts, z1000sx, BMW 1000xr, Triumph Explorer….time to give them a go.

I do like listening to you guys talking "shop" but can I ask the question that no one ever seems to ask. As a younger man when I was in my 30s and 40s I used to have friends following me to watch the smoke off my back tyre out of bends my preferred tyre was the Dunlop RRs ( i ruined one rear before I'd spent the same amount on petrol) ! Or Bridgestone 56/57s but they were not as smooth when they broke away. I digress, so the question. I ride a Speed Twin 1200 and I have Michelin Road 6s fitted, but unlike yesteryear, I don't get that old feeling of the bike moving like I used too. Am I missing this because I am now in my late 60s and backing out too early, or has the grip levels gone up so far I just ain't "sending" it. What are the signs on modern tyres that I will feel when I reach these limits. ?

road6 are brilliant tires but they do slide around a little when pushed,,, personally I feel they do it predictively and gradually, which is the best you could ask for I think

I’ve booked my 8S in for a fresh pair of Michelin Road 5s - the shop are charging me £400 to fit and balance both tyres - does this sound the right price or am I getting fleeced?

I also have a 2022 09SP. The OE rear tyre only lasted 3000km. I now use Road 6's and got 9000km on the rear (1000km more than I got on a number of Road 5's on a Gen1 Tracer 900). I'm no tyre expert, but I ride briskly on very twisty roads and have never found the Michelin's to lack in any performance area in spite of the superior life span. I also appreciate the comfortable ride compared to the OE Dunlops on the Tracer. I ride in temperatures from about 8 - 23 °C.

There an amazing tyre. All the grip you’ll need on the road and excellent in the wet..I’ve used a lot of tyres and the road 6 are the best I’ve ever had..on my 3rd rear at the moment and they’ve never let go with spirited riding..just don’t believe a lot of the crap on here and other places that you can get 8,000 miles out of a rear tyre..you can’t or at least I can’t,The most I’ve had is 4,800 miles out of the rear.

@@ianburns5789 Thanks. 👍 I was thinking the same for tyre wear. The tarmac where I ride is quite aggressive and bloody hot. I’ve been riding fast sportsbikes in Aussie for 30 years and destroyed rears so I expect the same in Thailand. Hence why I am interested in the Road 6.
