Great video Sophie and 2 great guests. Being the father of a 19 year old female golfer who is 5'1" tall with a handicap of 3 and a driver swing speed of between 94-96MPH I personally think the fitting industry still has a long way to go. She has been home from University the last month and we have been looking to change her driver which is 3 years old. We have been to a number of different fitters ( from the big stores to independent fitters, and there is a lack of demo equipment to try for females of the smaller stature. I also agree with your comments that most fitters have no idea how to fit a "good" female golfer, let alone one that is new to the game. All shafts were standard length, and the grips too were all standard sizes, and even though one of the fitters had over 700 different shaft on offer none were what I would call custom fit options. In all fittings she was hitting the clubs with shafts that were too long and grips that were too big, and although we were told that a custom order could be made, that would then be different from the clubs that she tried. I am glad that women such as yourselves are trying to change the industry and for that I wish you all the best in your endeavours.

I came into this with a complete ignorance to the equipment differences (or lack of) for men and women. I would like to thank all of you for providing this information. Great, great, great video. Well done!

I started to golf this summer. Fell in love after my first good shot! LOL. I bought a second-hand set of men's clubs...used them for a few weeks (hated them) traded them in on my first ladies' set of 11 (Nancy Lopez)....played with them for a few months and upgraded to a set of Cobras. I also bought a set of Wilson PSI (I think they are called)....I fell in love with everything golf. I call my Cobras...my sunny set. I just feel great outside, walking, playing golf, the company, the outfits (colours)...I always wore black until golf....now I love love all the beautiful bags and colours. I think this will be a lifelong hobby/love. Also got my husband playing now. All my work too! It is such an amazing sport.

I really hope you keep doing the women’s club review videos. The number of video reviews of 5+ year old clubs that I watch is pretty scary. So, it might be a while, but hopefully the views will come in waves year after year and create a bit of an encyclopedia of women’s club reviews.

I am so happy I found your channel! I am 5 ft (barely) and LEFT HANDED! I've played tennis (right-handed!!) for years so that really helped me through the first few hurdles! Finding women's clubs is already a challenge, but finding petitie, LH, women's equipment is next to impossible, some manufacturers don't even make sets for my demographic, for example the Callaway Reva set. So, thanks for all the equipment reviews, they've been VERY helpful. I got fitted and I'm going to go with the Ping G425 Orange dot, -1.5 in. 😀

I'm wearing a pink shirt right this very moment. This was a great discussion. I like the approach of fitting people just as golfers, rather than as men or women. Given the dizzying amount of different heads and shafts available, you can easily fit any human being (and several other mammals) with the existing equipment available. I would love to see more women in the coaching/sales/fitting areas, but I think that will come, especially with the huge boost in popularity the game has had over the past 18 months or so. Great work, all! P.S. Men's golf shoes, on the other hand, could use some style updates.

Excellent conversation between the ladies in promoting the game by sharing extra club's , so that more ladles start playing the game. I wish men golfer's start thinking on the same lines.

I would love to see some reviews on women's complete sets that are good for the budget beginner but aren't junk....such as the wilson profile sgi series or the nancy lopez sets....

Great video, I find the same problem for older golfers whereby the main content of most other video's are clearly aimed at the better golfer, how many video's do you see advocating 9 woods or sets of hybrids such as Cobra T Rails. Both my wife and myself love watching the new reviews of Ladies clubs Sophie.

I would recommend taking your current clubs to a fitting and try to do this at an outdoor range. Hit five balls with your 7-iron and then hit five balls with the demo club and alternate through 50 or so balls to get a real feel of what the new club will deliver. I did this today demo-ing the Titleist T100 iron. For me, the T100 was too much like the AP2. I didn't like the chunky sole with the tungsten weights. I have been a Titleist MB guy for 25 years. They give me the feel I want.

Very late to the chat, but agree with the adage that golf doesn't have to be expensive. Brought my set of irons off Ebay for twenty pounds. Putter five pounds and second hand driver and ping g5 wood totalling twenty pounds. Carry bag with stand thirty pounds. You do the math, and have been using them for over 6 years. In the last year spent three thousand in golf lessons so quite a good golfer now so can really enjoy the game lol

Sophie, quick question. A friend of mine here in the USA went to a top fitting company here and they had no problem fitting women golfers. The problem was that all their iron fitting is done with a 6-iron and she doesn't have enough club head speed to hit a 6-iron, which is why she carries hybrids in place of her 6 ad 7 iron, and she hits them well. So, she couldn't be fit for irons at all (they apologized but they simply didn't have the equipment to fit with higher lofted irons). Same problem with older men or juniors. I get that it is about the economics of how many heads and shaft lengths for different irons, but it means that most fitters here in the US can only really fit irons to anyone strong or good enough to be able to hit a 6-iron (becoming harder and harder as lofts get even stronger every year now that 6-irons are closer to 5 or even 4 irons in terms of loft, making it even tougher for slower swing speeds). Do you have the same issues in the UK or are there more options for women to get fitted with because my friend is very frustrated here?

Hi We get fitted for irons with one club only too, it’s a 7 iron. I’ve never understood why you don’t have a wedge, 7 and 4 or 5 iron. Only thing I can think about is time and money.

Great to see you three talking about the women's game and the trials that we have getting into it. I love some of Sophie's videos and subscribed recently. Likewise with The Jazzy Golfer, who I have met two or three times relating to a new women's initiative. I have posted here because I am going for my Second full bag fitting next Thursday. My 1st one was done by American Golf, but I feel I was more sold to than fitted. The guys at my club know so much more about me, and have already done my Driver fitting for me. My Ping G le 2 is a bit of a gem. For other women on here, lighter is better was the main thing I learned.

Iona I agree with you instead of discriminating clubs purely for men/women. Fitters must be provided by the golf OEM to the customers and based on physical state of an individual club fitting must be done, instead of providing off the shelf golf sets.

Love when Iona talked about nurturing your 3-wood and being kind and patient with it. Good advice. My current 3-wood could have me arrested for domestic violence...I HATE him sometimes!!!

I didn’t really understand the ‘fitting’ part when I bought my clubs. The shop I bought them said I get a free fitting. I will go back once the season ends shortly to have it done.

Very interesting to hear this. I like and wear pink! I believe in choice and don’t you think women have more choice than men? Certainly if fitting is included. Nice to hear of your experiences. In your discussion about being new extra and starting out what you say is exactly the same for anyone. There’s an exception. My wife plays left handed now that’s more difficult to find equipment! Last comment. Jazzy was concerned Sophie you were not reviewing women’s clubs, however she believes it’s better that clubs are not gender specific.

Hey Paul. Sadly I don't think there's anywhere near as much choice for women as there is for men. Sorry your wife had trouble finding equipment as a lefty! Hope she's enjoying the game though! In answer to your last comment, in the current market there are women's and men's products and Women's clubs weren't being reviewed. Given the great work Sophie does testing the 'Men's' clubs, I thought Sophie would be the perfect person to test 'Women's' clubs too to cater for the female audience that was largely being ignored in this space. In an ideal world however, I'd personally love for it to get to a point where the offering across the board followed the Titleist model where there are no gendered products and you just get fitted as a 'golfer' based on your own individual metrics.

I just had a fitting with Club Champion and thankfully, I’m getting a shaft that’s a little heavier and they’re taking 1/2” off my irons (I’m 5’ tall). Also, I’m with Jazzy, not a fan of pink, purple, or floral colors for women’s golf equipment.

Hi Sophie lovely listing to the chat about starting golf, is it expensive, My thoughts go down to the local Club Pro and explain your on a tight budget look to get a half set of 2nd hand clubs or ask if they can introduce you to a friendly lady member, it’s should not be to expensive, more young girls & women should give golf a try, Our Ladies section would welcome them, good luck, Dickey

The majority of Lady members at our club are over 60. I think I am only one of a handful who have been fitted for clubs, mainly because I am 5 foot and shrinking. It was still guess work as they didn't have an altered lie angle for me to try.
